Bilateral congenital lacrimal fistula in a Brown Swiss bull

A five-year-old Brown Swiss bull was referred to the Department of Farm Animals, University of Zurich, because of bilateral epiphora that was unresponsive to treatment. Clinical examination revealed a fistulous opening medial to the medial canthus of both eyes and mucopurulent discharge from both openings. Attempts to flush the nasolacrimal duct via the lacrimal points resulted in the fluid exiting via the fistulous opening. Retrograde flushing of the nasolacrimal duct from the nasolacrimal opening resulted in the flush fluid flowing back out the nasolacrimal opening. Bilateral lacrimal fistula medial to the medial canthus of the eye was diagnosed based on the findings. The same anomaly was diagnosed a year later in 4 related female animals referred to our Department for other reasons. Three of the cases were sired by the bull described above and one was sired by his half-brother. Therefore, an autosomal recessive mode of inheritance of this anomaly was assumed. Clinical, epidemiological and molecular studies of the offspring of both bulls are underway to further investigate this anomaly

Using a Smart Recognition Framework for the Automated Transfer of Structural Whole Engine Models

The development of adequate simulation models from geometric CAD assemblies is one of the most important tasks in early design phases. With this step requiring a lot of manual effort, the desire for a process efficiency improvement via an automated solution rises. In order to derive information about the assembly to build Finite-Element (FE) models, various different steps have to be taken which require visual assessment and engineering evaluation, knowledge and judgement. The approach described in this research mimics the engineer's logic and way of thinking to automate these steps. Thereof, the recognition of entities plays a fundamental role for further processing. To achieve the desired recognition, methods have been developed to retrieve criteria like form, function, context and positioning from the available geometry data. The developed recognition framework supports and provides a component categorization so that specifically optimized process chains for each category can be implemented, depicting a more robust and reasonable overall process

Разработка модуля детектирования повреждений на крышах домов для геоинформационной CRM системы

Одной из возможностей геоинформационной CRM-системы является обнаружение человеком дефектом крыш домов с аэрофотоснимка. После анализа принимается решение о предложении услуг ремонта крыши для человека. Данная стратегия может быть оптимизирована путем внедрения модуля, позволяющего определять повреждения крыш без участия человека.One of the features of the geographic information CRM-system is the detection by person of a roof defect from an air photo. After analysis, the decision is made to offer roof repair services for a person. This strategy can be optimized by introducing a module that allows to determine roof damage without human intervention
