Techniques for QCD calculations by numerical integration
Calculations of observables in quantum chromodynamics are typically performed
using a method that combines numerical integrations over the momenta of final
state particles with analytical integrations over the momenta of virtual
particles. I describe the most important steps of a method for performing all
of the integrations numerically.Comment: 36 pages with 16 postscript figure
Determination of the urinary aglycone metabolites of vitamin K by HPLC with redox-mode electrochemical detection
We describe a method for the determination of the two major urinary metabolites of vitamin K as the methyl esters of their agyclone structures, 2-methyl-3-(3-3-carboxymethylpropyl)-1,4-naphthoquinone (5C-side-chain metabolite) and 2-methyl-3-(5-carboxy-3-methyl-2-pentenyl)-1,4-naphthoquinone (7C-side-chain metabolite), by HPLC with electrochemical detection (ECD) in the redox mode. Urinary salts were removed by reversed-phase (C18) solid phase extraction (SPE) and the predominately conjugated vitamin K metabolites hydrolysed with methanolic HCl. The resultant carboxylic acid aglycones were quantitatively methylated with diazomethane and fractionated by normal-phase (silica) SPE. Final analysis was by reversed-phase (C18) HPLC with a methanol-aqueous mobile phase. Metabolites were detected by amperometric, oxidative ECD of their quinol forms, which were generated by post-column coulometric reduction at an upstream electrode. The assay gave excellent linearity (r2 typically = 0.999) and high sensitivity with an on-column detection limit of <3.5 fmol (<1pg). The inter-assay precision was typically 10%. Metabolite recovery was compared to that of an internal standard (2-methyl-3-(7'-carboxy-heptyl)-1,4-naphthoquinone), added to urine samples just before analysis. Using this methodology we confirmed that the 5C- and 7C-metabolite were major catabolites of both phylloquinone (vitamin K1) and menaquinones (vitamin K2) in humans. We propose that the measurement of urinary vitamin K metabolite excretion is a candidate non-invasive marker of total vitamin K status
Vitamin K catabolite inhibition of ovariectomy-induced bone loss: Structureâactivity relationship considerations
The potential benefit of vitamin K as a therapeutic in osteoporosis is controversial and the vitamin K regimen being used clinically (45 mg/day) employs doses that are many times higher than required to ensure maximal gammaâcarboxylation of the vitamin Kâdependent bone proteins. We therefore tested the hypothesis that vitamin K catabolites, 5âcarbon (CAN5C) and 7âcarbon carboxylic acid (CAN7C) aliphatic sideâchain derivatives of the naphthoquinone moiety exert an osteotrophic role consistent with the treatment of osteoporosis

Recursive numerical calculus of one-loop tensor integrals
A numerical approach to compute tensor integrals in one-loop calculations is
presented. The algorithm is based on a recursion relation which allows to
express high rank tensor integrals as a function of lower rank ones. At each
level of iteration only inverse square roots of Gram determinants appear. For
the phase-space regions where Gram determinants are so small that numerical
problems are expected, we give general prescriptions on how to construct
reliable approximations to the exact result without performing Taylor
expansions. Working in 4+epsilon dimensions does not require an analytic
separation of ultraviolet and infrared/collinear divergences, and, apart from
trivial integrals that we compute explicitly, no additional ones besides the
standard set of scalar one-loop integrals are needed.Comment: Typo corrected in formula 79. 22 pages, Latex, 1 figure, uses

Two-hadron interference fragmentation functions. Part I: general framework
We investigate the properties of interference fragmentation functions
measurable from the distribution of two hadrons produced in the same jet in the
current fragmentation region of a hard process. We discuss the azimuthal
angular dependences in the leading order cross section of two-hadron inclusive
lepton-nucleon scattering as an example how these interference fragmentation
functions can be addressed separately.Comment: RevTeX, 7 figures, first part of a work split in two, second part
