Ocular Penetrating Injury as a Complication of Blepharoplasty: A Case Report

Purpose: To report a rare case of ocular penetrating injury after blepharoplasty procedure.Case report: Blepharoplasty is a frequent oculoplastic surgery with relatively infrequent complications. Penetrating injury of the eye due to blepharoplasty has been reported in few previousstudies. Here we report a 35-year-old woman presenting with visual loss in her left eye as a complication of blepharoplasty. In funduscopic examination, prominent retinal folds were found and optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings were compatible with macular hypotony caused by a neglected penetrating injury during oculoplastic surgery. She was admitted and underwent the primary repair of the scleral and limbal laceration. Her visual acuity and other symptoms improved significantly one week after surgery. After six months, her visual acuity for the injured eye was 20/20 without any other complications. Conclusion: Hypotonic maculopathy, disproportionate pain, and visual loss can be alarming signs after cosmetic blepharoplasty pointing to a probable penetrating eye injury

    Ocular Brucellosis: A Brief Update

    Get PDF
Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease of important health significance in endemic areas such as Iran. Brucellosis can affect any organ or system in the human body. Ocular involvement is rare and can lead to poor visual prognosis if not treated early. The most common ocular manifestation of brucellosis is uveitis, although any ocular structure can be involved. The diagnosis of ocular brucellosis is based on clinical examination as well as culture and serological tests. The classical treatment regimen includes doxycycline and rifampin. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are effective in preventing blindness. Here we breifly review the manifestations, diagnostic tools, and treatment of ocular brucellosis

Management of Ocular Graft-Versus-Host Disease: A Brief Review

    Get PDF
Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) remains a major complication following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Ocular GVHD develops in a substantial number of patients following HSCT and 60 % to 90 % of patients with systemic GVHD experience the ocular complications to some extents. In this brief review we will discuss the conventional and updated novel therapies in the management of patients suffering from ocular GVHD.Keywords: Eye; Dry Eye; Graft versus Host Disease; Treatment

Roles and functions of special purpose vehicles (SPV): a comparison between Islamic and conventional finance / Mohammad Soleimani and S. Mustafa Shadab

The SPV (special purpose vehicle) is one of the key components of the securitization in both Islamic and conventional finance; however the details of how the transactions are implemented differ subject to the mode of securitization in Islamic and conventional finance. In conventional finance, the bank establishes a SPV and transfers its asset from its balance sheet to the SPV. The assets are used as the collateral for issuing securitized, debt-like instruments. Nevertheless, in Islamic finance mode of securitization, the SPV just services the cash flows for security holders and do participate in debt-issuance. This difference is originated from the risk-sharing principle in asset-based Islamic finance which contrasts with risk-transfer nature of an interest-based conventional finance and results in important differences in ownership right and valuation of SPVs in the two financial systems

Crosstalk analysis of multiā€microstrip coupled lines using transmission line modeling

This article presents a new analytical method to predict crosstalk of a homogeneous terminated two microstrip coupled lines over a ground plane using transmission line theory. The derived formula is frequency and location dependent, which can be used to quickly estimate the crosstalk of a coupled line. Also, the effect of the geometrical parameters of the lines and load are included in the derived formula. Presented method can be used for the other types of coupled lines including lossy or lossless lines. To verify the accuracy of the introduced method, a few microstrip coupled line structures with different geometrical parameters are considered numerically and experimentally. The results of crosstalk based on the proposed analytical methods, simulation study using high frequency structure simulator and those obtained by measurements are reported and compared with each other. It is shown that our proposed method accurately estimates the amount of crosstalk for a two microstrip coupled lines
