Critical Appraisal of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives among the beneficiaries of Indore Urban - A Comparative Study
Background: Majority of the women in M.P who breastfeed their babies throw away the colostrum before they begin actual feed. Only 14.9% females feed their babies with in 1/2 an hour (National Family Health Survey-3). In Indore 2 hospitals have been given designation of baby friendly hospital (BFH) namely M.Y. hospital (MYH) which is a tertiary care center, attached to Medical College and District hospital (DH). Objectives: (1) To assess the process of implementation of baby friendly hospital initiative programme. (2) Knowledge, Attitude, Practice regarding breast feeding amongst the beneficiaries. Methods: A comparative study was conducted between two BFH and two NBFH (Non Baby Friendly Hospitals) of Indore. The respondents were categorized into health care providers and beneficiaries. A pretested questionnaire was used to interview the respondents which was made taking into consideration the essential 10 Criteria of BFHI Programme. Results: 89% in BFH and 97% in NBFH were having positive attitude towards colostrum feeding. 81% postnatal mothers in BFH and 96% in NBFH were having knowledge about benefits of exclusive breast feeding. 21% postnatal mothers in BFH and 39% in NBFH initiated breast feeding within ½ an hour. 64 % of mothers in BFH and 62 % mothers in NBFH were practicing exclusive breast Feeding. Conclusion: The above findings show that although designated as BFH, the breast feeding practices remained poor as compared to NBFH. There is an utmost need to reinforce training and constant monitoring of health care providers regarding BFHI
Collective behavior of stock price movements in an emerging market
To investigate the universality of the structure of interactions in different
markets, we analyze the cross-correlation matrix C of stock price fluctuations
in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India. We find that this emerging
market exhibits strong correlations in the movement of stock prices compared to
developed markets, such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). This is shown to
be due to the dominant influence of a common market mode on the stock prices.
By comparison, interactions between related stocks, e.g., those belonging to
the same business sector, are much weaker. This lack of distinct sector
identity in emerging markets is explicitly shown by reconstructing the network
of mutually interacting stocks. Spectral analysis of C for NSE reveals that,
the few largest eigenvalues deviate from the bulk of the spectrum predicted by
random matrix theory, but they are far fewer in number compared to, e.g., NYSE.
We show this to be due to the relative weakness of intra-sector interactions
between stocks, compared to the market mode, by modeling stock price dynamics
with a two-factor model. Our results suggest that the emergence of an internal
structure comprising multiple groups of strongly coupled components is a

Modeling the Field Emission Current Fluctuation in Carbon Nanotube Thin Films
Owing to their distinct properties, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have emerged as
promising candidate for field emission devices. It has been found
experimentally that the results related to the field emission performance show
variability. The design of an efficient field emitting device requires the
analysis of the variabilities with a systematic and multiphysics based modeling
approach. In this paper, we develop a model of randomly oriented CNTs in a thin
film by coupling the field emission phenomena, the electron-phonon transport
and the mechanics of single isolated CNT. A computational scheme is developed
by which the states of CNTs are updated in time incremental manner. The device
current is calculated by using Fowler-Nordheim equation for field emission to

Rotating fermions in two dimensions: Thomas Fermi approach
Properties of confined mesoscopic systems have been extensively studied
numerically over recent years. We discuss an analytical approach to the study
of finite rotating fermionic systems in two dimension. We first construct the
energy functional for a finite fermionic system within the Thomas-Fermi
approximation in two dimensions. We show that for specific interactions the
problem may be exactly solved. We derive analytical expressions for the
density, the critical size as well as the ground state energy of such systems

Barriers in the management of asthma and attitudes towards complementary medicine
AbstractBackground: Undertreatment is said to be an important problem for those with asthma. Misconceptions regarding the nature and treatment of asthma may contribute to this. This study was planned to evaluate the perception of those with asthma about various aspects of their condition. Methods: A total of 1012 patients with asthma volunteered to complete the questionnaire. Questions included those regarding severity, nature, regularity of use of medicine and attitudes towards trying complementary medicine. Forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) was measured to assess the severity of airway obstruction. Results: Only 9% of patients took treatment for asthma according to the advice of the doctor. The remainder reported stopping treatment when they became free of symptoms or were able to tolerate their symptoms. A majority of the patients had moderately severe airway obstruction as determined by spirometer and reported being unable to assess the severity of their disease with only 11.9% reporting that they could perceive the warning symptoms of an acute attack. Seventy-nine percent of the patients had used complementary medicine. Home remedies, such as tea, hot water, walking, ginger and turmeric, were perceived to provide relief in asthma. Conclusion: Patients with asthma have many barriers in the way of optimal treatment. These include a failure to recognize warning symptoms, belief in a permanent cure; not continuing treatment for as long as needed; and, an inclination to seek complimentary medicines
Spin-lattice coupling mediated giant magnetodielectricity across the spin reorientation in Ca2FeCoO5
The structural, phonon, magnetic, dielectric, and magneto dielectric
responses of the pure bulk Brownmillerite compound Ca2FeCoO5 are reported. This
compound showed giant magneto dielectric response (10%-24%) induced by strong
spin-lattice coupling across its spin reorientation transition (150-250 K). The
role of two Debye temperatures pertaining to differently coordinated sites in
the dielectric relaxations is established. The positive giant
magneto-dielectricity is shown to be a direct consequence of the modulations in
the lattice degrees of freedom through applied external field across the spin
reorientation transition. Our study illustrates novel control of
magneto-dielectricity by tuning the spin reorientation transition in a material
that possess strong spin lattice coupling.Comment: 7 pages, 12 figure
Search for gamma rays of energy 10(15) eV from Cygnus X-3
Finite flux of excess radiation of energy 10 to the 15th power has been reported by two groups from the direction of Cygnus X-3, with the characteristic periodicity of 4.8 hrs. Samorski and Stamm find that the muon content of the showers generated by this excess radiation is about 77% of that in normal cosmic ray showers, whereas the expectation for gamma ray showers is less than 10%. It is thus difficult to understand the nature of the radiation arriving from the direction of Cygnus X-3. Samorski and Stamm measured the muon densities close to the core (approx. 10 m), where contamination due to other components is severe. Even though this does not explain the high ratio of muon densities, measurements should be carried out away from the core to establish the nature of the radiation. In order to establish the signal from Cygnus X-3 and its muon content with better statistical significance, an extensive air shower array, specifically designed for this purpose was operated at Kolar Gold Fields (longitude: 78 deg .3 E; latitude: + 12 deg .95; atmospheric depth: 920 q/square centimeters) since September, 1984. Competitors or cousins? Studying the parallels between distributed programming languages systemJ and IEC61499
We face a glut of languages for programming distributed software today. However, only a few languages have proven their potential with wider practical use in different domains of computing. We picked two such languages, meant for different domains, to see if they could cross-pollinate and enrich one another. Specifically, we chose SystemJ, a language to program distributed embedded systems, and IEC61499, the next generation standard for distributed industrial automation control software. Unsurprisingly, we found similar structures and artifacts between the two. We also found significant differences mainly due to differing domain-specific requirements. This comparison leads to observations and guidelines for improving both languages, and we discuss directions towards an “ideal” distributed software programming language
