The aim of this article is to present the state of Slovenian education in the Zone A of the former Julian March before and after the signature of the Paris Peace Treaty on 10 February 1947. It draws on the minutes of the session held on 6 August 1946 at the headquarters of the Allied Military Government in Trieste, as this session was intended for the review of the first school year after the liberation from Nazifascism. The minutes are kept in the historical archives of the Trieste provincial office for Slovenian education and have never before been the subject of historical analysis. They reveal the school system’s main difficulties, which were the subject of a fierce clash of different political factors in the immediate post-war period. The author compares the findings obtained from these minutes with the findings of the scientific literature on the same topic. In the second part of the paper, the author discusses the changes that occurred after 15 September 1947, when the provisions of the Paris Peace Treaty came into force. He draws particular attention to the various consequences of this historic step for the Slovenian schools in Trieste and Gorizia

How Can We Advance Integrative Biology Research in Animal Science in 21st Century?:Experience at University of Ljubljana from 2002 to 2022

In this perspective analysis, we strive to answer the following question: how can we advance integrative biology research in the 21st century with lessons from animal science? At the University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty, Department of Animal Science, we share here our three lessons learned in the two decades from 2002 to 2022 that we believe could inform integrative biology, systems science, and animal science scholarship in other countries and geographies. Cultivating multiomics knowledge through a conceptual lens of integrative biology is crucial for life sciences research that can stand the test of diverse biological, clinical, and ecological contexts. Moreover, in an era of the current COVID-19 pandemic, animal nutrition and animal science, and the study of their interactions with human health (and vice versa) through integrative biology approaches hold enormous prospects and significance for systems medicine and ecosystem health

Modelling the Colour of Strawberry Spread During Storage, Including Effects of Technical Variations

The colour of freshly processed strawberry spread changes relatively rapidly from a bright red to a dull red, which then makes its appearance generally less acceptable for consumers. The colours of strawberry spreads following several processing conditions were measured under different storage conditions. Additional sugar and colorant had only slight effects on the colour decay, while exclusion of oxygen and daylight did not affect this process. The only condition that clearly maintained the freshly processed appearance was storage at 4°C. Hexagonal bottles were filled with the strawberry spreads and their colour was repeatedly measured at the six sides of the bottles, using a Minolta chroma meter. Data were analysed using non-linear indexed regression analysis based on a logistic function for the three colour aspect of a*, b* and L*. This technology allowed the determination of the variation in these data in terms of improved reliability (R2adj, >90%). It also allowed better interpretation of the processes involved.
