Growth and Development of the Muslim Press in the Sub-Continent

History of the journalism in the Sub-continent (Indo-Pak) goes back to the 11th century with Waqa-I-Navees (Newsmen) during the regime of Mahmood Ghaznavi.  Waqa-I-Navees were appointed to keep the government well informed about all important happenings. Though, Sultans of Delhi were the first to establish the system on sound basis, yet it were the Mughals, who really worked hard to make it flourish. In the 19th century the Hindus were more advanced than the Muslims in almost every sphere of life. In the field of Journalism Hindus dominated the Indian press and propagated their cause. On the other hand the Muslims remained only followers to establish their press. Some Muslim Newspapers were pro Hindu. Thus there were a few Muslim newspapers that really represented the Indian Muslim’s point of view. This paper will examine the efforts of the Muslims to establish their own Urdu / English press.     </p

METACOGNITIVE SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS ABOUT USING DIGITAL LIBRARIES FOR ACADEMIC WRITINGS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMICS

COVID-19 is a highly contagious pandemic that restricted scholars to their homes and reduced academic writings since they could not reach libraries. Metacognitive Self-Consciousness is a metacognitive ability. It pertains to awareness and monitoring of thoughts. The purpose of this study was to explore Metacognitive Self-Consciousness about using digital libraries for academic writings during Covid-19 pandemics. The sampling frame consisted of two types of Ph.D. research scholars of the social sciences enrolled at public sector universities. One of them was already using digital library resources, whereas the others were not using digital library resources. The study sample consisted of forty-eight (48) Ph.D. research scholars. The sample was further divided into two groups called treatment and control groups. Online sessions were arranged on metacognitive self-consciousness about using digital libraries for academic writings for the research scholars of the treatment group. The post-test control group was the design of the study. The data were collected with a metacognitive self-consciousness questionnaire about using digital libraries for academic writings (MSCQ-DL). Means (M), Standard Deviations (SD), and t-tests were employed with SPSS version 24. The results concluded that metacognitive self-consciousness about using digital libraries for academic writings remained significant and enhanced academic writing of research scholars of public sector universities (M = 13.4; SD = 2.5), p =.000 \u3c α =0.005. It is recommended that universities focus on the awareness of research scholars about using digital libraries and arrange mandatory sessions for training. This study may open new doors for scholars, supervisors, and other stakeholders to improve their academic writings

Cutaneous allodynia in migraine

OBJECTIVE: Objective of this study is to find out the presence and severity of cutaneous allodynia in migraine sufferers. BACKGROUND: Cutaneous allodynia is the perception of pain in response to non noxious stimuli. It occurs due to repeated stimulations that lead to sensitization and abnormal skin response. MATERIALS AND METHODS: It was a descriptive case study and conducted at Neurology department Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences from June 2017 to May 2018. All patients of both genders above age 13 years of age with migraine diagnosed as having “Migraine without aura” or “Migraine with aura” according to the International Headache society criteria, ICHD-3 beta, were enrolled in this study. Cutaneous allodynia was evaluated by using Allodynia Symptom Checklist that consisted of 12-items. Cutaneous allodynia severity was defined according to score i.e No allodynia if score was 0-2, mild allodynia if score was 3-5, moderate allodynia if score was 6-8 and severe allodynia with a score of 9 or more

Library Sources Available on Pre-Islamic Religious Traditions of the Eastern Hindu Kush and on Shamanism among the Kalasha People

The shamanism is the oldest cult of human being, in Pakistan the Kalasha are the sole people in the (eastern) Hindu Kush region who have the tradition of shamanism alive though at the last breath. The Kalasha are Indo-Aryan people of Dardic branch and their religion has similarities with the religion of Vedic period. Shaman or dehar is one of the most significant institutions of the community and is the most spiritual in nature. However, for some decades the shamanism due to multiple reasons is towards the decline; impurity is the key reason. Though the Kalasha people does not have any prophet or the divine book therefore the dehar gets more importance which, according to the Kalasha traditions, is a coordinator among his people and the creator through supernatural beings like fairies. Recent times is not good for the community, there is no real dehar for some decades and community is without spiritual leadership

Determinants of Potato Prices and its Forecasting: A Case Study of Punjab, Pakistan

Potato figures among the principal crop in Pakistan. This paper describes the determinants of potato prices in Punjab, Pakistan. Annual data for the period 1998-2014 were analyzed to identify factors affecting the prices of potato. Results indicated that temperature and world oil prices were significantly affecting price. Seasonal variation of prices are also analyzed in this paper. This paper also use ARIMA and ARMA model to forecast the prices. These results suggest that temperature increase above the limit will lead to increase in prices and support prices also

He is considered to be a socialist by a group of critics and friends. His personality and works have been however misinterpreted on account of his support of socialism and socialist revolution in Russia. It has been attempted to show in this paper that on account of his personal circumstances, he championed the cause of socialism because he thought it was in tune with the true spirit of his religion, Islam. Hence his ideology and personal life history have been re-visited in this article to prove that he understood the true spirit of Islam and did not think that there was any opposition between it and socialism. This is the main reason why he was a staunch socialist, without being an atheist. In fact, he was at heart a devout Muslim and a great believer in his religion, Islam.  </p

An Effective Role of a Library in the Development of Faculty and Students: A Case Study of Quaid-i-Azam Library

A library is not only a collection of material, books, journals and other sources, but it is also responsible to educate its users with modern knowledge. A library plays a vital role in the development of society, faculty and students. It is basic essential to measure the role or development of a university through its libraries. Quaid-i-Azam Library is basically a group of 11 libraries that are working under the flagship of the University of Gujrat, Gujrat, Pakistan. It provides the access to its users of more than 134,000 books, 45,000 e-books, peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings and articles through 17 different online sources provided by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. This research analyzes the role of Quaid-i-Azam Library in the development of faculty and students. It provides the basic information to its user to understand the amazeballs role of this library.
