    New Venture Creation: Controversial Perspectives and Theories

    New venture creation is a hot topic and different scholars tried to shed light on this fascinating research subject. Despite the vast body of existing literature, there is little consensus about which theoretical perspectives and theories are best suited for describing and explaining the phenomenon. One of the most controversial topics is that “whether this phenomenon could be considered as a process or not?” This paper presents the existing views and theories on new venture creation, and tries to answer the mentioned question. To do so, Moroz and Hindle’s (2012) distinguished views are used. Finally, the paper concludes with some suggestions and remarks. The main contribution of this paper is to criticize the existing perspectives and theories, to categorize them, and to present a more comprehensible view of the phenomenon

Today’s dynamic environment requires organizations to be agile in their processes, with the issue being even more critical in knowledge-based organizations such as virtual universities. In this research, we identify the path through which organizations can achieve agility by means of work values. Although there are many dimensions in work values and organizational agility, using the methodology applied in this research, we omit some of these dimensions and find the best methods that will enable managers to wisely invest in the most important issues and get the best results in the path to achieve agility through work values

    Cultural intelligence and network organizations in society: case of Tehran neighborhood councils

    Network communications is one of the modern ideas in the field of organizational behavior. On the other hand, the ability to communicate with employees and understand the cultural differences between them in a multicultural environment is one of the key skills that managers and employees need them in the nowadays organizations. These skills are introduced as cultural intelligence in organizations that have ability to respond to many challenges in multicultural environments. This article was aimed to analysis the relationship between cultural intelligence and network communication. These questionnaires were distributed between 134 members at the Tehran neighborhood councils. In order to analyzing data and concluding results, SPSS, and then Pearson correlation test were used. The research was done based on structural equation modeling (SEM). The result indicated that there was significant positive relationship between cultural intelligence and network communication. Also there was significant positive relationship between each dimension of cultural intelligence and network communication. Findings show that cultural intelligence is a basic factor in network communication and confirm the main hypothesis of this study which represents the existence of a positive and meaningful relation between cultural intelligence and network communication. Furthermore, the results show that considering this kind of intelligence, especially in network organizations which has a high ethnic and cultural variety, could be very useful for improve employees and managers communications

    Shortening the learning curve of media start: Ups in accelerators : case of a developing country

    Business accelerators are playing a key role in facilitating the process of new venture creation. Start-ups generally look for the best accelerators to make their long journey short. Media start-ups also look for a supportive mechanism to fasten their start-up experience. In this process, one of the main issues is to shorten their learning curve which is possible by use of start-up accelerators. Therefore, this chapter deals with the idea that which factors are important in this regard. To do so, first, a brief review of the support mechanisms is presented, and it is discussed that how start-up accelerators shorten the learning curve of the start-ups. Then, five media start-ups which were created in accelerators are studied. All of the cases were established after 2014, since the accelerators started working from the same year. According to the findings, there are mainly six reasons for shortening of the learning curve by start-up accelerators, including: (1) Short creation period, (2) Seminars and courses, (3) Co-working space, (4) Divided teams, (5) Cohort peers, and (6) Mentorship

    Cognitions Affecting Innovation Among Generation Z Entrepreneurs: The External Enablement of Digital Infrastructure

    Objective: The current research aimed to investigate the external enablement role of Digital Infrastructures (DI) in the interplay of entrepreneurial cognitions and innovation. Methodology: Data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) and Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) were used for analyses. This yielded a sample of 8601 Generation Z entrepreneurs operating in 25 European countries. Results: Applying hierarchical moderated regressions showed that socio-cognitive components of an entrepreneurial mindset (self-efficacy, risk propensity, opportunity identification) affect innovation among Generation Z entrepreneurs. More importantly, DI plays an external enablement role in the interplay of cognitions and innovation among Generation Z entrepreneurs. Originality/Value: We contribute to the socio-cognitive theory of entrepreneurship by integrating an external enablement perspective into the study of cognitions and entrepreneurial outcomes (here, innovation). We contribute to the digital technology perspective of entrepreneurship by connecting the conversation about the socio-cognitive perspective of entrepreneurship regarding the role of cognitions in innovation to the conversation in information systems (IS) regarding technology affordances and constraints. We extend the application of the external enabler framework to the post entry stage of entrepreneurial activity and integrate a generational perspective into it

    THE ECONOMIC RESILIENCE-ENTREPRENEURSHIP NEXUS

    Resilience is an emerging concept used to examine economic performance and responses to exogenous shocks such as the financial crisis and recession. Relying on a review of the literature on emerging academic articles in this field, the article explores how entrepreneurship is key to maintaining a dynamic economy and shows that it stands out in expert debates as a key aspect in creating more resilient economies. Namely, through the development of a conceptual framework we considered the links between economic resilience and entrepreneurship. In line with this economic resilience is analyzed at different levels. As a final result of this analysis, we came to the conclusion that the entrepreneur plays a decisive role in achieving the firm's resilience and economic systems

    Entrepreneurial universities and social capital: The moderating role of entrepreneurial intention in the Malaysian context☆

    The mismatch of skills among youth graduates contributes towards existing social and economic challenges of poverty and unemployment especially among youths in most developing countries including Malaysia. Consequently, universities are mandated to transform into Entrepreneurial Universities as a third mission, driving state of the art knowledge, skills acquisition and entre- preneurial mindset that supports technological development and innovations to match up with the emerging needs of Malaysia’s economy. Therefore, this study assesses the influence of entrepreneurial universities on the development of social capital. Questionnaires were used to retrieve data from a sample of 382 students in two Institutions. Data were analysed using structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The direct relationships between the three measures of entrepreneurial university (Input, Process and Output) indicated a positively significant rela- tionship with social capital. However, the moderating effects of Entrepreneurial Intention were supported. Our paper contributes to the literature by examining the role of Entrepreneurial Universities using the three factors of inputs, processes and outputs on social capital development and concurrently examining the moderating effect of Entrepreneurial Intention. It also provides evidence-based support to develop models for emerging entrepreneurial universities in Malaysia which can help the national goal of reducing unemployment due to skill mismatch among graduates

    Digital leadership and organizational capabilities in manufacturing industry: A study in Malaysian context

    The research is conducted to study the outcome of digital leadership on dynamic capabilities, innovation capabilities, and alliances capabilities in manufacturing industries within the Malaysian context. Today, developing corporations and industries, at the least, require a virtual transformation to have greater organisational abilities in shaping and growing their new and present commercial enterprise to healthy the brand-new generation paradigm. A cross-sectional quantitative method has been used in this study with a sample of 132 respondents with different industry back grounds. These respondents are organisations, which are based on the nature of a business role like authorised representative, distributor, importer, manufacturer, combination authorised representative, distributor and importer, and combination distributor and importer that located in Selangor, Malaysia. The research used the SMART PLS software to analyse and interpret the results. There main hypotheses are proposed and tested. The results showed that digital leadership positively affects dynamic capabilities, innovation capabilities, and alliances capabilities

    El efecto de la convergencia de los medios de comunicación en el aprovechamiento de oportunidades empresariales

    This paper sheds light on specific aspect of Media Convergence which is not only about convergence and similarity, but about divergence in different aspects and opportunities which bring up for entrepreneurial activities. Problem area of this study is to understand how media convergence provides new business opportunities in media markets and how media entrepreneurs can exploit those opportunities for proposing value to target customers. This paper follows a quantitative research design. Therefore, 119 cofounders of small and medium media firms answered an online questionnaire, and the data was analyzed by SPSS. Regression analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings reveal that four types of divergence, including media distribution channels, media content producers, audiences, and advertisers, affect exploitation of entrepreneurial opportunities in small and medium sized media firms.Este documento arroja luz sobre aspectos específicos de la convergencia de los medios de comunicación, que se trata solamente de convergencia y similitud, sino de divergencia en diferentes aspectos y oportunidades que se presentan en las actividades empresariales. El área problemática de este estudio es comprender cómo la convergencia de los medios de comunicación brinda nuevas oportunidades de negocio en los mercados de los medios de comunicación y cómo los empresarios de los medios pueden aprovechar esas oportunidades para proponer valor a sus clientes objetivo. Este trabajo realiza un diseño de investigación cuantitativa. Por lo tanto, 119 cofundadores de pequeñas y medianas empresas de medios respondieron un cuestionario en línea, y los datos fueron analizados a través del programa estadístico SPSS. El análisis de regresión se utilizó para analizar los datos. Los hallazgos revelan que cuatro tipos de divergencias, que incluyen los canales de distribución de medios, los productores de contenido de medios, las audiencias y los anunciantes, afectan el aprovechamiento de oportunidades empresariales en pequeñas y medianas empresas de medios
