Price Setting Behavior in Turkish Industries: Evidence From Survey Data
This study investigates the price setting behavior of Turkish industries based on the results of a survey that was conducted by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. The results show that under normal conditions, the majority of the firms follow time-dependent pricing rule but when significant events occur substantial fraction of them alter their behavior to state dependent reviewing. The median Turkish firm reviews its prices every month, but changes its prices four times a year. Interaction of radially polarized focused light with a prolate spheroidal nanoparticle
The interaction of a nanoparticle with light is affected by nanoparticle geometry and composition, as well as by focused beam parameters, such as the polarization and numerical aperture of the beam. The interaction of a radially focused beam with a prolate spheroidal nanoparticle is particularly important because it has the potential to produce strong near-field electromagnetic radiation. Strong and tightly localized longitudinal components of a radially polarized focused beam can excite strong plasmon modes on elongated nanoparticles such as prolate spheroids. In this study, near field radiation from a prolate spheriodal nanoparticle is investigated when it is illuminated with a radially polarized focused beam of light. Near-field radiation from the nanoparticle is investigated in the absence and presence of metallic layers. It is shown that the interaction of a radially polarized focused beam with a prolate spheroidal nanoparticle can be enhanced by creating images of monopole charges using metallic layers. In addition, it is also observed that the presence of a metallic layer shifts the resonance of the prolate spheroid toward longer wavelengths. Dipole, quadruple, and off resonance field distributions for particles with different sizes and aspect ratios are presented when they are illuminated with a radially focused beam of light
Mutual funds, fee transparency, and competition
Mutual funds enable small, less experienced investors to hold diversified portfolios of stocks and bonds at relatively low costs. Though the mutual fund market is competitive in many ways, fees can vary substantially for what are essentially identical products. This may be due to bundling of services, but it may also reflect some confusion on the part of less experienced investors, which inhibits comparative shopping among funds. Near-field radiation from nano-particles and nano-antennas illuminated with a focused beam of light
The interaction of photons with metallic nanoparticles and nanoantennas yields large enhancement and tight localization of electromagnetic fields in the vicinity of nanoparticles. In the first part of this study, the interaction of a spherical nanoparticle with focused beams of various angular spectra is investigated. This study demonstrates that the focused light can be utilized to manipulate the near-field radiation around nanoparticles. In the second part of this study, the interaction between linearly and radially polarized focused light with prolate spheroidal nanoparticles and nano-antennas is investigated. Strong and tightly localized longitudinal components of a radially polarized focused beam can excite strong plasmon modes on elongated nanoparticles such as prolate spheroids. The effect of a focused beam on parameters such as the numerical aperture of a beam and the wavelength of incident light, as well as particle geometry and composition are also studied
Potential association of LMNA-associated generalized lipodystrophy with juvenile dermatomyositis
Abstract
Background
Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) is an auto-immune muscle disease which presents with skin manifestations and muscle weakness. At least 10% of the patients with JDM present with acquired lipodystrophy. Laminopathies are caused by mutations in the lamin genes and cover a wide spectrum of diseases including muscular dystrophies and lipodystrophy. The p.T10I LMNA variant is associated with a phenotype of generalized lipodystrophy that has also been called atypical progeroid syndrome.
Case presentation
A previously healthy female presented with bilateral proximal lower extremity muscle weakness at age 4. She was diagnosed with JDM based on her clinical presentation, laboratory tests and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). She had subcutaneous fat loss which started in her extremities and progressed to her whole body. At age 7, she had diabetes, hypertriglyceridemia, low leptin levels and low body fat on dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, and was diagnosed with acquired generalized lipodystrophy (AGL). Whole exome sequencing (WES) revealed a heterozygous c.29C > T; p.T10I missense pathogenic variant in LMNA, which encodes lamins A and C. Muscle biopsy confirmed JDM rather than muscular dystrophy, showing perifascicular atrophy and perivascular mononuclear cell infiltration. Immunofluroscence of skin fibroblasts confirmed nuclear atypia and fragmentation.
Conclusions
This is a unique case with p.T10I LMNA variant displaying concurrent JDM and AGL. This co-occurrence raises the intriguing possibility that LMNA, and possibly p.T10I, may have a pathogenic role in not only the occurrence of generalized lipodystrophy, but also juvenile dermatomyositis. Careful phenotypic characterization of additional patients with laminopathies as well as individuals with JDM is warranted.https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/142870/1/40842_2018_Article_58.pd

Trend of measles in Turkey: A retrospective secondary data analysis.
Objective: This study has been planned to analyze surveillance data of measles disease, to evaluate the trend, to make epidemiological evaluations about outbreaks and to help form national policies in the future.
Methods: This study; covers a total of 1,050,567 measles cases reported to the Ministry of Health between 1960 and 2019 and published in the statistical annuals. It is a retrospective secondary data analysis.
Results: In our study official measles data in 60-year period between the years 1960-2019 of Turkey Ministry of Health was analyzed and a total of 1,050,567 cases of measles was reported, the average number of cases of measles per year was 17.509, the average incidence rate over the 60-year period was 32.03 per hundred thousand and it was determined that the number of cases increased in some years above expectations. These increase years evaluated as epidemic were; 1965, 1969, 1973, 1975, 1981, 1983, 1989, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2001,2004, 2011-2013, 2017-2019 respectively.
With the onset of vaccination in the following year of 1969, the peak of incidence (1970), the incidence rate decreased by about 27/100000. It was found that the incidence rate of measles decreased by 62% compared to pre-vaccination after a single dose of vaccine, and approximately 80% after the vaccination of the Extended Immunization Program (EIP).
In our study a negative strong relation between MCV1 vaccination rates and number of measles cases (at one year later) has been found.
