Clinical And Laboratory Profile Of Pediatric And Adolescent Patients With Type 1 Diabetes

Objective: To evaluate clinical and laboratory profiles of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus in three public hospitals in São Paulo, Brazil, since type 1 diabetes mellitus is a chronic illness that occurs mainly in the pediatric age group in the Brazilian population. Methods: Cross-sectional study with patients followed up in reference centers in São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP), Campinas (UNICAMP) and São Paulo (Conjunto Hospitalar do Mandaqui). Data about gender, age, diabetes duration, daily insulin dose, number of daily insulin injections, and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were analyzed. Results: Two hundred and thirty-nine patients (131 females) were evaluated; mean age was 13.1±4.7 years and mean diabetes duration was 6.6±4.2 years. Daily insulin doses ranged from 0.1 to 1.78 units/kg/day (0.88±0.28), and 180 (74.7%) patients had two daily injections. HbA 1c ranged from 4.6 to 17.9% (10.0±2.3%). Conclusions: Although the hospitals included in this study are excellence centers for the follow-up of patients with diabetes in three municipalities in the state of São Paulo, one of the most developed states in Brazil, blood glucose control evaluated according to HbA1c was not adequate. Findings confirm that, despite the efforts of all the professionals involved, great challenges still lie ahead. Are Breastfeeding And Complementary Feeding Of Children Of Adolescent Mothers Different From Those Of Adult Mothers? [a Amamentação E A Alimentação Complementar De Filhos De Mães Adolescentes São Diferentes Das De Filhos De Mães Adultas?]

Objectives: to study breastfeeding during the first year of life and the kind of complementary food provided at one year of life to children of adolescent mothers. To compare these data with breastfeeding and complementary food received by children of adult mothers. Method: a dual cohort was performed. Children we're selected from the files of CAISM/UNICAMP and assessed when they were one year old. This study consisted of 122 children born from adolescent mothers and 123 children born from adult mothers - full-term births, birthweight was 2,500 g or higher. When the children were one year old, the mothers were interviewed at home or at CIPED/UNICAMP. The results were compared using the chi-square test and the Fisher's test; α = 5%; the Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze the duration of breastfeeding and the Wilcoxon test (Breslow) to compare the exclusive, predominant, full and total breastfeeding curves. Results: 94.3% of children of adolescent mothers and 95.9% of children of adult mothers left the maternity hospital being breastfed (p=0,544). The median exclusive breastfeeding duration for both groups was 90 days. After completing one year, 35.3% and 28.5% of children of adolescent and adult mothers, respectively, continued breastfeeding (p=0.254): only breastfeeding 11.5% × 8.9% and mixed feeding 23.8% × 19.5% (p=0.519). Meat intake by children of adolescent mothers was lower than that of children of adult mothers (13.9% × 26.0%; Fisher's test: p=0.031). With regard to egg intake, 11.5% × 19.5% of children of adolescent mothers and adult mothers did not eat egg but the results suggested that the egg intake of children of adolescent mothers was higher (p=0.082). Conclusions: duration and pattern of breastfeeding were similar between children of adolescent mothers and of adult mothers. Poor outcrop and deep weathering characterize the Rio das Velhas Greenstone Belt in the southeastern from Brazil. This paper summarizes the use of high-density airborne survey for mineral exploration studies based on Interpretation enhancements of magnetic, radiometric and frequency domain electromagnetic data using image-processed methods and an unsupervised classification, The generated products provide new Insights and an excel lent tool for mapping and trace individual lithologlcal units, improving the information content of the single geophysical channels, The geophysical images were processed using different combinations, The best product was the analytical signal amplitude and inclination integrated by IHS transformation, Information extracted from this image maps the geology and lineament patterns at both regional and local scales. The K-means technique using ten classes was also applied to the geophysical data. These results enhance the lithologies mapped by the field geologists at the 1:100,000, Also shows important host rocks and different gold mineralized geological domains. Photoarylation of pyridines using aryldiazonium salts and visible light: an EDA approach

A metal-free methodology for the photoarylation of pyridines, in water, is described giving 2 and 4-arylated-pyridines in yields up to 96%. The scope of the aryldiazonium salts is presented showing important results depending on the nature and position of the substituent group in the diazonium salt, that is, electron-donating or electron-withdrawing in the ortho, meta, or para positions. Further heteroaromatics were also successfully photoarylated. Mechanistic studies and comparison between our methodology and similar metal-catalyzed procedures are presented, suggesting the occurrence of a visible-light EDA complex which generates the aryl radical with no need for an additional photocatalyst
