Voor alle geselecteerde schepen is de totale vangst in 1000xeuro, gemiddeld over de 3 jaar, weergegeven op een resolutie van 1/16 ICES-kwadrant weergegeven
Fishing for knowledge: an industrial survey for associated species
collection efforts for these species in 2011, recommending commercial catch surveys as an option to improve data collection. Following from this Ekofish has taken the lead and has initiated a pilot data-collection project, in which commercial catch data will be collected aboard their twinrig vessels during one season for the species dab, lemon sole, turbot, and brill. The aim of this pilot project is to progress towards science-based management and MSC certification of the mentioned species. This project is carried out in collaboration with the NSF and IMARES. Cod monitoring: Results 2014, quarter 1
The Cod monitoring program is part of the Dutch cod avoidance plan developed by the Dutch Government together with the Dutch fishing sector. The aim of this cod monitoring program is to provide information on the Catch per Unit Effort (CpUE) in the TR fleet (bottom trawls and seines). To remain updated, an overview of fishing activity, cod catches and cod Landings per Unit Effort (LpUE) of four gear types per quarter is requested by the ministry of Economic Affairs. Cod monitoring: Results 2015, quarter 1
Between 2011 and 2013, the monitoring program existed of an extended analysis of self-reported cod catch data (both landings and discards) in combination with the regular DCF discard monitoring program, an extra observer program and the CCTV-project in TR-fisheries (see Kraan et al. (2013 and 2014)). Over the years, the ministry of Economic Affairs and IMARES drew the conclusion that monitoring cod discards via the self-reporting scheme asked for disproportionately high effort of the TR-skippers while discards were hardly affecting CpUE rates (Ministry of Economic Affairs (2014)). Therefore, it was agreed upon a yearly analysis of the EU-logbook (hereafter logbook) data in combination with VMS-data, which is readily available. However, to remain updated, an overview of fishing activity, cod catches and cod Landings per Unit Effort (LpUE) of four gear types per quarter is requested by the ministry of Economic Affairs. Industrial survey for associated species: Results of a pilot-year
To increase scientific knowledge and stimulate discussion on management of data-limited species, Ekofish Group B.V., the North Sea Foundation (NSF) and IMARES started a research project. This project consisted of two phases. In the first phase, IMARES and NSF performed a literature study on the constrains in management and biological knowledge for species selected by Ekofish. After phase one, Ekofish Group B.V. requested IMARES to set up an industrial survey to gather more information on turbot, brill and lemon sole. A pilot-survey was designed and performed for these species to test whether an industrial survey is feasible and valuable for biological knowledge and if so, how this survey should be designed. To test the design of the survey, research will be done on the haul duration and mesh size. To examine the added value of the pilot survey, results are compared with the BTS. In this report, the results of this pilot survey are presented and answer will be given to the following research question: “Is an industrial survey for turbot, bill and lemon sole feasible and does it increase knowledge with respect to scientific surveys?
