    Towards Parallel Repair Using Decompositions

    Get PDF
Ontology repair remains one of the main bottlenecks for the development of ontologies for practical use. Many automated methods have been developed for suggesting potential repairs, but ultimately human intervention is required for selecting the adequate one, and the human expert might be overwhelmed by the amount of information delivered to her. We propose a decomposition of ontologies into smaller components that can be repaired in parallel. We show the utility of our approach for ontology repair, provide algorithms for computing this decomposition through standard reasoning, and study the complexity of several associated problems

Complex critical exponents for percolation transitions in Josephson-junction arrays, antiferromagnets, and interacting bosons

We show that the critical behavior of quantum systems undergoing a percolation transition is dramatically affected by their topological Berry phase 2πρ2\pi\rho. For irrational ρ\rho, we demonstrate that the low-energy excitations of diluted Josephson-junctions arrays, quantum antiferromagnets, and interacting bosons are spinless fermions with fractal spectrum. As a result, critical properties not captured by the usual Ginzburg-Landau-Wilson description of phase transitions emerge, such as complex critical exponents, log-periodic oscillations and dynamically broken scale-invariance.Comment: revised version accepted for publication in Phys. Morphotropism and 'Quasi-Isostructurality' in the Three High Z′ Concomitant Polymorphs of Efinaconazole

    Get PDF
The crystal structures of the three efinaconazole anhydrous forms have been solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction showing a very rare case of nearly isostructural polymorphism. The analysis of their crystal structures revealed that forms I and III are 'quasi-isostructural' polymorphs and are morphotropically related to form II. The identical conformational and supramolecular environment can explain the concomitant polymorphism phenomenon observed for this important active pharmaceutical ingredient

Anthropogenic Renourishment Feedback on Shorebirds: a Multispecies Bayesian Perspective

    Get PDF
In this paper the realized niche of the Snowy Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus), a primarily resident Florida shorebird, is described as a function of the scenopoetic and bionomic variables at the nest-, landscape-, and regional-scale. We identified some possible geomorphological controls that influence nest-site selection and survival using data collected along the Florida Gulf coast. In particular we focused on the effects of beach replenishment interventions on the Snowy Plover (SP), and on the migratory Piping Plover	(PP)	(Charadrius	melodus )	and	Red	Knot	(RK)	(Calidris	canutus ).	Additionally, we investigated the potential differences between the SP breeding and wintering distributions using only regional-scale physiognomic variables and the recorded occur- rences. To quantify the relationship between past renourishment projects and shorebird species we used a Monte Carlo procedure to sample from the posterior distribution of the binomial probabilities that a region is not a nesting or a wintering ground conditional on the occurrence of a beach replenishment intervention in the same and the previous year. The results indicate that it was 2.3, 3.1, and 0.8 times more likely that a region was not a wintering ground following a year with a renourishment intervention for the SP, PP and RK respectively. For the SP it was 2.5. times more likely that a region was not a breeding ground after a renourishment event. Through a maximum entropy principle model we observed small differences in the habitat use of the SP during the breeding and the wintering season. However the habitats where RK was observed appeared quite different. While ecological niche models at the macro-scale are useful for determining habitat suitability ranges, the characterization of the species’ local niche is fundamentally important for adopting concrete multi-species management scenarios. Maintaining and creating optimal suitable habitats for SP characterized by sparse low vegetation in the foredunes areas, and uneven/low-slope beach surfaces, is the proposed conservation scenario to convert anthropic beach restorations and SP populations into a positive feedback without impacting other threatened shorebird species

Derisking Development by a Cocrystallization Screen of a Novel Selective Inhaled JAK-STAT inhibitor

    Get PDF
The discovery and detailed characterization of several new solid forms of a novel selective inhaled JAK-STAT inhibitor are described. Using a holistic cocrystallization screen approach to explore its formulation landscape, we decrease the risk of future potential development failures due to a nonoptimal pharmacokinetic lung profile or undesired lung effects in humans

Hydrogen bonding versus π-interactions: their key competition in sildenafil solvates

    Get PDF
Herein we report the X-ray characterization of four sildenafil solvates where the conformation of the pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine and phenyl rings depends on the solvent. It conditions the formation of an apparently innocent intramolecular H-bond that has a remarkable influence on the solid state architecture of the sildenafil solvates. DFT calculations indicate that a delicate balance between the energies of H-bonding and π-π (or lp-π) interactions are crucial

Revision of the Crystal structure of the orthorhombic polymorph of oxyma: on the importance of π-hole interactions and their interplay with H-bonds

In this work the crystal structure of the previously described orthorhombic polymorph of the coupling reagent Oxyma has been revised, corrected now as centrosymmetric and analyzed by means of DFT calculations. In the solid state the structure forms a network of H-bonds and self-assembled dimers that are held together by the formation of N···C π-hole interactions involving the C-atom of the imino group. The H-bonding and π-hole interactions observed in the solid state were rationalized using molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surfaces, focusing on the H-bond donor-acceptor groups and the π-hole observed above and below the molecular plane. The interactions and their interplay have been characterized by using two methodologies based on the topology of the electron density, which are the quantum theory of 'atom-in-molecules' (QTAIM) and the noncovalent interaction plot (NCIplot)

Expanding the Crystal Form Landscape of the Antiviral Drug Adefovir Dipivoxil

    Get PDF
The solid state of adefovir dipivoxil (AD) has been revisited. In the present article we extend the knowledge about the solid state of this pharmaceutical prodrug. The stability landscape of the amorphous form with respect to the anhydrous and hydrate crystalline forms has been studied, and the use of an antiplasticizing agent to increase its Tg is described. The crystal structure of the elusive anhydrous form I has been determined from laboratory powder X-ray diffraction data by means of direct space methods using the computing program FOX. In addition, three new isostructural solvates of AD (methanol, ethylenglycol, and methylethylketone) have been discovered and structurally characterized by single cristal X-ray diffraction
