In this study, red blood cell parameters of Barbus balcanicus Kotlik, Tsigenopulos, Rab, Berrebi, 2002 subjected to acute thermal stress were investigated. Fish were caught by electro fishing in the Suturlija river, a small tributary of the river Vrbas (N latitude 44˚44' 38˝, E longitude 17˚ 09' 10˝) in summer (July) and transported to the laboratory. Fish were randomly distributed in four aquaria of 30 L each. In all the four aquaria, the water temperature was continuously kept at 19°C by appropriate devices. After period of adaptation (three weeks), half of the fish (24) were used as a control group while the other 24 were subjected to thermal stress by raising the water temperature to 29°C (10°C increase) in 60 min. In both control and thermally treated, fish blood was collected by heart puncture according to “Animal welfare act“. Analyses were performed with native blood, without addition of any anticoagulant and the values of red blood cell count (RBC), haemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume (PCV), Corpuscular Volume (MCV), Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin (MCH) and Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin Concentration (MCHC) were determined. In the thermally treated fish, the values of PCV and MCV increased (p = 0.0003 and p = 0.0147 respectively), and those of MCHC decreased substantially (p = 0.0001).Keywords: Haematology, temperature, Barbus balcanicusAfrican Journal of Biotechnology Vol. 12(18), pp. 2484-249

The ichthyofauna composition of the wetland ecosystem in the Bardača area (Bosnia and Herzegovina) was described with the aim of indication on the richness and necessary protection of the biodiversity of this sensitive swamp region. During 2004, qualitative and quantitative fish samplings were carried out, according to seasons, in Matura and Brzaja rivers, the main tributaries of the drainage area around the Sava River. Fish samplings were carried out using an electro–generator pulse and removal method. Analysis of the sampled fishes consisted of species determination and estimation of yield for average density and biomass (N/m2 or m3 and g/m2 or m3). It could be said that during one year examinations, the presence of 24 fish species from 7 families has been determinate. In addition, the analysis of fish diversity was carried out by means of species richness, Shannon–Weaver index, evenness and Simpson index. According to analyzed data, it could be observed that 2 allochtonous pest species, Carassius auratus gibelio and Ictalurus nebulosus presents the most dominant fish species in these waters in almost all sampling seasons.U ovom je radu opisan sastav ihtiofaune močvarnog ekosustava Bardače (Bosna i Hercegovina), i to radi identifikacije bogatstva i prijeko potrebne zaštite biodiverziteta ove osjetljive močvarne regije. Analiza diverziteta spomenutih ribljih vrsta utvrđena je računanjem sljedećih indeksa diverziteta: bogatstvo brojnosti vrsta (richness), Shannon–Weaverov indeksa, indeks ravnomjernosti distribucije vrsta (evenness) i Simpsonov indeks. Prema dobivenim podacima, zaključeno je da su dvije introducirane »korovske« vrste riba, Carassius auratus gibelio i Ictalurus nebulosus, bile najdominantnije vrste u ovim vodama, i to u gotovo svim godišnjim dobima

    Get PDF
Condition factor and organosomatic indices of fish represent a way of monitoring environmental factor influence on fish. The rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss, Wal.) individuals that were used in the work originated from different brood stock and different fish farms. Spawning was carried out on five selected fish farms. After that, the breeding eggs were delivered in Klasnik hatchery where the same environmental conditions were provided during embryonic development and cultivation of all five groups of individuals. As a conditioning factor in this work Fulton's condition factor and coefficients of the heart, liver and spleen were analyzed. In all individuals we determined the total length, standard length and body mass. In total, fifty individuals, which were divided into five groups form five brood stock, were analyzed. The results show significantly different values for the condition factor and organosomatic indices between some of the analyzed groups

Provedena analiza eritrocitnog profila koji obuhvaća: broj eritrocita, koncentraciju hemoglobina, hematokrit, MCV, MCH i MCHC, pokazuje da jedinke koje su izlagane povećanju temperature su imale značajno veće vrijednosti broja eritrocita i hematokrita, dok su jedinke kontrolne grupe imale veće vrijednosti MCH i MCHC.A research on the effect of water temperature change on erythrocyte profile was conducted on Prussian carp (Carassius gibelio) from the Bardača area (BiH). The study included 38 individuals which were divided into two aquaria, adapted to experimental conditions and then subjected to different temperature regime. The control group had constant water temperature of 10ºC, while for treated fish water temperature was gradually increased to 20ºC for three days. Conducted analysis of erythrocyte profile, which includes erythrocyte count, hemoglobin concentration, packed cell volume, MCV, MCH and MCHC showed that individuals exposed to temperature increase had significantly higher values of erythrocyte count and packed cell volume, while control individuals had higher values of MCH and MCHC

This paper presents the data related to morphometric and physiological (hematological) characteristics of brown trout (Salmo trutta) from the Ponor River. This river rises near the village Podrašnica (municipality of Mrkonjić Grad), sinks above the ground and after a while, near the settlement of Krupa na Vrbasu, appears as a source of the Krupa River (tributary of the Vrbas River). Fish sampling was performed during the summer of 2015 and during this period 22 Salmo trutta units were caught (11 females and 11 males). On that occasion, several morphometric (total and standard body length) and hematological traits (Hct-hematocrit, Hb-hemoglobin and MCHC - mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration), body mass and Fulton’s condition factor were analyzed. The average value for total body length was 18.85 cm and for standard body length it was 16.85 cm; the mean value for body mass was 80.38 g, and for Fulton’s condition factor 1.41. In case of hematological parameters, the average value for Hct was 0.39 l/l, Hb 70.62 g/l and MCHC 180.64 g/l erythrocytes. The estimated parameters can serve as indicators for the condition of these aquatic organisms, and indirectly, the state of their environment

This paper presents the results of research on the content of heavy metals in water and fish of the River Una. During 2012 and 2013 water and fish samples were taken from four locations, and research was conducted in two seasons: autumn 2012 (I season) and spring 2013 (II season). The caught fish at all locations belonged to the species of trout (Salmo trutta). The content of Pb, Cu and Cd was determined by means of an atomic absorption spectrophotometer “Perkin Elmer” AAnalyst - 800, using a flame photometry technique. The content of Pb, Cu and Cd was below the level of maximum allowable concentrations (MAC). The research of heavy metal presence in the water of the River Una indicated the value of Pb lower than 0,0010 mg/l, Cu lower than 0.4 mg/l, and Cd lower than 0,1 mg/l. Heavy metals in fish muscle tissue were directly related to the pollution of river. Lead content in muscle tissue of fish caught in the River Una was the highest in samples which were caught at the fourth location, with 0,205 mg kg-1, while the highest copper content was identified in the same location, 0,1280 mg kg-1. The content of cadmium in fish muscle tissue samples was below 0,1 mg kg-1. The heavy metal content in the tested samples of water and fish the River Una was below the allowable limit. These results indicate that the pollution of the River Una did not reach a significant level
