What is at stake with globalization?
It is hard to explain why it is necessary to defend globalization even in the 21st
century. Why globalization becomes the necessary evil every twenty years? And why
there are plenty of organized movements against globalization, but no one for it?
Answering these questions has become a kind of strange sport, because there are a few
decent more than reasonable arguments that must be given every time globalization is
under attack, and maybe other argument canât be invented. Nevertheless, it is of utmost
importance to be certain that people are able to find out these arguments and understand
them, even they describe some situations that are apparently unfavorable for some
people. However, the main cause of the continuing bombardment of globalization is in
fact its destroying effect on states authority. As long as we are heading to a more global
world, the power of governments over their modern subjects (not citizens as they wrongly
believe they are) is falling apart. This fact is felt by all those who take a benefit from
government protection and funding. As long as an individual can travel around the world
and choose where to stay easier than 50 years ago, it is more difficult for the state to tax
this citizen. And therefore, it is more difficult to provide funding to those who depend on
the state help (and are a source of political power).peer-reviewe
THE SPREAD OF IDEAS ABOUT INDUSTRY AND EDUCATION IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY IN ROMANIA
The nineteenth century in our country may be considered as being very important from the intellectualperspective and not only. Although, Romanians proved to be less inventively or too moderate on economic issues, inthis century, some personalities, born in Romania and educated in the west part of Europe, tried to emancipate thecountry by spreading industrial and implicitly, economic ideas among Romanians, who did not wish for wealth, didnot start wars to seek for wealth because they were already proud of their riches which have to be defended in theirown country. The opening to Occident was a gradual but painful process, many of the original values disappearedbeing replaced by others more or less good, but bad behaviours and attitudes were naturally kept. We are convincedthat the process through which new ideas are generated and ultimately translated into policies and programs thatshape the flow of history may be too complex to be reduced to a simple and unidirectional schema; thus is why, weare going to present shortly the main ideas that changed the future of Romania in the nineteenth century
Corporate culture and competition
Culture is one of those terms that are difficult to express distinctly, but everyone knows it when they sense it. Many articles have been written in recent years about corporate culture, which can be looked at as a system. Inputs include feedback from society, professions, laws, stories, heroes, values on competition or service, etc. Outputs are organizational behaviors, technologies, strategies, image, products, services, appearance, etc. Most organizations don't consciously try to create a certain culture, as it is typically created unconsciously, based on the values of the top management or the founders of an organization. In this paper we try to see whether corporate culture has any influence on competition and if it has, whether it is a positive one or a negative one.corporate culture, competition, corporate culture, society.
The Spread of Economic Ideas among Romanian People. Case Study: Alexandru D. Xenopol
Alexandru D. Xenopol (1847-1920), a leading figure of the Romanian intellectual tradition of the turn of the century â academician, economist, philosopher, historian, educator, sociologist and writer â has remained in the universal cultural memory as a tireless promoter of the economic empowerment of the Romanian inhabited territories. Encyclopaedic, visionary and lucid mind, Alexandru D. Xenopol dedicated his work to searching the elements of the compatibility of the Romanians with the modernity and globalization in the cultural, educational and economic history of our people. Alexandru D. Xenopol has not remain unnoticed; scientists of this country, such as Nicolae Iorga, paid an homage to his great intellectual value: "educated in the best traditions of the economic school of the mid nineteenth century, and above all, a man with a philosophical mind, comfortable with abstractions and with an endless love for subtle links between them" (Iorga, 1975, p.190). The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of the spread of economic ideas in shaping the Romanian economic development stage
The Biblical Matrix of Economics
The rationale of this paper is a prime pattern of history
of economic thought in the previous ages of classic ancient times of
Greek and Roman civilizations using a methodological matrix able to
capture the mainstream ideas from social, political and religious events
within the pages of Bible. The economic perspective of these events
follows the evolution of the seeds of economic thinking within the Fertile
Crescent, focused on the Biblical patriarchic heroesâ actions, but also on
the empires which their civilization interacted to. The paper aims to
discover the path followed by the economic doctrines from the Bible in
order to find a match with economic actuality of present days
The issue of competing currencies. Case study â Bitcoin
The complexity and interdependence of the economies of various geographical
and political entities have one generic binder - money. The economic history of the last
century, replicated in the first decade of our century, can be âwrittenâ with money.
Indeed, money, a multiple discovery of the civilization in its historical way, was and still
is the guardian of hope for prosperity. The disputes about money clearly indicate the
need, opportunity and the possibility of monetary competition, which would provide, from
the point of view of entrepreneurs, the most suitable production of money based on
expectations of their economic preferences. Increasingly more, theorists, practitioners
and analysts bring to the fore the issue of simultaneously using the official currency and
the digital one. Thus, the issue of the public debate regarding the private money is still of
interest. Based on these considerations, this paper aims to highlight how the digital
currency Bitcoin can meet the challenges of the economic environment, taking into
account both the opportunities and the threats to which it is subject, and the records
emphasized by the history of economic thought and adapted to the current reality
CORPORATE CULTURE AND COMPETITION
Culture is one of those terms that are
difficult to express distinctly, but everyone knows it
when they sense it. Many articles have been written in
recent years about corporate culture, which can be
looked at as a system. Inputs include feedback from
society, professions, laws, stories, heroes, values on
competition or service, etc. Outputs are
organizational behaviors, technologies, strategies,
image, products, services, appearance, etc.
Most organizations don't consciously try to
create a certain culture, as it is typically created
unconsciously, based on the values of the top
management or the founders of an organization. In
this paper we try to see whether corporate culture has
any influence on competition and if it has, whether it
is a positive one or a negative one
Meanings and spreading patterns of the âpositiveâ concept in economic thought
A brief retrospective on economic thought reveals that,
in the quest for the scientific status of their research, economists had to
refine not only their research methods, but even the economic language
itself. The use and, sometimes, the abuse of the âpositiveâ concept in
present economic discourse are clear proofs that the constant changes of
economic language mark significantly economic science. Coined by
Auguste Comte, who denied the very existence of economic science, the
âpositiveâ concept has become for a significant part of economists a keyterm
that guarantees and emphasizes the scientific status of their
research. Alternatively, an important body of scholars seems to provide a
different meaning for this concept and uses it in order to reveal economic
facts, more precisely, economic growth. One who is not very familiar
with the methodology of economics might be confused by these different
meanings hidden in a single term. In this context, the present paper aims
to bring more light into this issue by providing both an epistemological
analysis of âpositiveâ term and a sketch of spreading patterns of this
concept via scientific publications. Consequently, the research follows
two major well-defined paths: 1) the epistemological analysis of various
meanings related to the âpositiveâ term and 2) the quantitative study of
occurrences in which this concept is used and cited in economic journals

The issue of âtrueâ money in front of the BitCoinâs offensive
The issue of money, beyond what is usually meant by the very words âmoney
issueâ was and still is a subject of interest for a heterogeneous public, going beyond time
and being the subject of numerous studies and regulations since ancient time. Over
centuries, the money had different forms, and the controversies surrounding them were
numerous. Currently, one of the problems is related to the emergence and use of virtual
money, seen from the perspective of private currency. The question that occurs frequently
in the talks of several economists is related to the ability of virtual money to survive.
History has shown that man has the capacity to find ways which can âavoidâ prohibitions
of various types, being able, even in the case of money to find alternatives to the official
currency. Is the BitCoin that private currency which will have the longest life? And if so,
how long it will run in parallel with the traditional currency? Based on these questions, this
paper aims at presenting the main aspects of the BitCoin, starting from specialized
literature and reaching the Romanian reality
Business Ethics and Education â an Intelligent Solution for a Sustainable Development?
Nowadays, ethics seems to be a very important issue when speaking about the way of doing business. Many economists ask if it is necessary to study the way ethics are transmitted to the next generations of businessmen and if business ethics comes from education. Finally, does it have anything to do with the sustainable development. It is a known fact that there are numerous dimensions of education â sustainable development linkages. Rapid expansion of education has not necessarily been accompanied by rapid economic growth in many developing countries. There is a series of variables to be taken into account when talking about the connection between education and sustainable development. First, it is very important to realize that the educational system influences the way a country develops. Second, the development of a country also influences the educational system. That is why it is necessary to analyze a bidirectional connection, where identifying the difference between a simple educational system and a functional one is of vital importance. Starting from such aspects, this paper aims to emphasize the connection existing between the three concepts: education-business ethics-sustainable development. Using qualitative methods and also statistics, this paper offers an analysis of the way ethics and education influence the development of economy
