    In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(C18H16N6)(C36H28OP2)]PF6·0.5CH2Cl2 or [Cu(DPEPhos)(Bn-bta)]PF6·0.5CH2Cl2 {DPEPhos = bis­[(diphenyl­phosphan­yl)phen­yl] ether and Bn-bta = 1,1′-dibenzyl-1H,1′H-4,4′-bi-1,2,3triazol­e}, the Cu atom is coordinated by two N and two P atoms of the ligands in a strongly distorted tetra­hedral environment. There are two crystallographically independent complex cations present, which differ significantly in their geometrical parameters. The solvent molecule is disordered but satisfactory atomic positions could not be determined

    Left ventricular systolic series elastic properties in aortic stenosis before and after valve replacement

    In seven patients with aortic valve disease the time course of an auxotonic beat was compared with that of an isovolumetric beat produced by aortic cross clamping during open heart surgery. The rate of systolic stress rise (dS/dt; g·cm−2) of the isovolumetric beat at peak meridional wall stress (Sp; g·cm−2) of the auxotonic beat was determined by tipmanometry and simultaneous sonomicrometry and was found to be 87% of maximum dS/dt. In the second part of the study the stiffness index (k) was calculated in patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation according to: k = 0.87·(max·dS/dt)/Sp·Vcf, where Vcf = normalised midwall circumferential fibre shortening velocity (circ·s−1). In 22 patients, 10 controls and 12 patients with aortic stenosis before (pre) and after (post) valve replacement the systolic stiffness index k (circ−1) was determined using tipmanometry and frame by frame angiocardiography. Muscle fibre diameter and interstitial fibrosis were assessed from left ventricular endomyocardial biopsies. The systolic stiffness index k was 15 circ−1 in controls, 14 in preoperative patients with aortic stenosis and 12 (p<0.01 v controls) in postoperative patients. There was a significant correlation between k and muscle fibre diameter (r = 0.55; p<0.01) but not between k and interstitial fibrosis or ejection fraction. We conclude that systolic stiffness index k is normal despite marked left ventricular hypertrophy in preoperative patients with aortic stenosis. Following successful valve replacement systolic stiffness index decreased and was significantly lower than in controls.     Sinus node disease and arrhythmias in the long-term follow-up of former professional cyclists

    Aims Significant brady- and tachyarrhythmias may occur in active endurance athletes. It is controversial whether these arrhythmias do persist after cessation of competitive endurance training. Methods and results Among all 134 former Swiss professional cyclists [hereafter, former athletes (FAs)] participating at least once in the professional bicycle race Tour de Suisse in 1955-1975, 62 (46%) were recruited for the study. The control group consisted of 62 male golfers matched for age, weight, hypertension, and cardiac medication. All participants were screened with history, clinical and echocardiographic examination, ECG, and 24 h ECG. The time for the last bicycle race of FAs was 38 ± 6 years. The mean age at examination was 66 ± 6 years in controls and 66 ± 7 years in FAs (P = 0.47). The percentage of study participants with >4 h current cardiovascular training per week was identical. QRS duration (102 ± 20 vs. 95 ± 13 ms, P = 0.03) and corrected QTc interval (416 ± 27 vs. 404 ± 18, P = 0.004) were longer in FAs. There was no significant difference in the number of isolated atrial or ventricular premature complexes, or supraventricular tachycardias in the 24 h ECG; however, ventricular tachycardias tended to occur more often in FAs than in controls (15 vs. 3%, P = 0.05). The average heart rate was lower in FAs (66 ± 9 vs. 70 ± 8 b.p.m.) (P = 0.004). Paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation or flutter was reported more often in FAs (P = 0.028). Sinus node disease (SND), defined as bradycardia of 2.5 s (6 vs. 0%), was more common in FA (16%) than in controls (2%, P = 0.006). Observed survival of all FAs was not different from the expected. Conclusions Among FAs, SND occurred significantly more often compared with age-matched controls, and there is trend towards more frequent ventricular tachycardias. Further studies have to evaluate prevention of arrhythmias with extreme endurance training, the necessity of regular follow-up of heart rhythm, and management of arrhythmias in former competitive endurance athlete

    Dataset of ptychographic X-ray computed tomography of inverse opal photonic crystals produced by atomic layer deposition

    This data article describes the detailed parameters for synthesizing mullite inverse opal photonic crystals via Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), as well as the detailed image analysis routine used to interpret the data obtained by the measurement of such photonic crystals, before and after the heat treatment, via Ptychographic X-ray Computed Tomography (PXCT). The data presented in this article are related to the research article by Furlan and co-authors entitled "Photonic materials for high-temperature applications: Synthesis and characterization by X-ray ptychographic tomography" (Furlan et al., 2018). The data include detailed information about the ALD super-cycle process to generate the ternary oxides inside a photonic crystal template, the raw data from supporting characterization techniques, as well as the full dataset obtained from PXCT.     Regulation of N-WASP and the Arp2/3 Complex by Abp1 Controls Neuronal Morphology

    Polymerization and organization of actin filaments into complex superstructures is indispensable for structure and function of neuronal networks. We here report that knock down of the F-actin-binding protein Abp1, which is important for endocytosis and synaptic organization, results in changes in axon development virtually identical to Arp2/3 complex inhibition, i.e., a selective increase of axon length. Our in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate that Abp1 interacts directly with N-WASP, an activator of the Arp2/3 complex, and releases the autoinhibition of N-WASP in cooperation with Cdc42 and thereby promotes N-WASP-triggered Arp2/3 complex-mediated actin polymerization. In line with our mechanistical studies and the colocalization of Abp1, N-WASP and Arp2/3 at sites of actin polymerization in neurons, we reveal an essential role of Abp1 and its cooperativity with Cdc42 in N-WASP-induced rearrangements of the neuronal cytoskeleton. We furthermore show that introduction of N-WASP mutants lacking the ability to bind Abp1 or Cdc42, Arp2/3 complex inhibition, Abp1 knock down, N-WASP knock down and Arp3 knock down, all cause identical neuromorphological phenotypes. Our data thus strongly suggest that these proteins and their complex formation are important for cytoskeletal processes underlying neuronal network formation

    The construction of viewpoint aspect: the imperfective revisited

    This paper argues for a constructionist approach to viewpoint Aspect by exploring the idea that it does not exert any altering force on the situation-aspect properties of predicates. The proposal is developed by analyzing the syntax and semantics of the imperfective, which has been attributed a coercer role in the literature as a de-telicizer and de-stativizer in the progressive, and as a de-eventivizer in the so-called ability (or attitudinal) and habitual readings. This paper proposes a unified semantics for the imperfective, preserving the properties of eventualities throughout the derivation. The paper argues that the semantics of viewpoint aspect is encoded in a series of functional heads containing interval-ordering predicates and quantifiers. This richer structure allows us to account for a greater amount of phenomena, such as the perfective nature of the individual instantiations of the event within a habitual construction or the nonculminating reading of perfective accomplishments in Spanish. This paper hypothesizes that nonculminating accomplishments have an underlying structure corresponding to the perfective progressive. As a consequence, the progressive becomes disentangled from imperfectivity and is given a novel analysis. The proposed syntax is argued to have a corresponding explicit morphology in languages such as Spanish and a nondifferentiating one in languages such as English; however, the syntax-semantics underlying both of these languages is argued to be the same
