Abstract Design and manufacturing courses are integral parts of Industrial Engineering curriculum at Mercer School of Engineering. In this paper, an overview of the design and manufacturing curriculum starting from freshman design through senior design, and introduction to manufacturing processes through automation and systems integration are presented and discussed. The manufacturing laboratory facilities, and design/automation hardware and software available are effectively used to teach Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), CAD/CAM integration, dimensioning and tolerancing, measurement and inspection, and reverse engineering concepts with appropriate hands-on experiences. A sample laboratory experiment in robotics, an example of measurements using coordinate measuring machine, and a typical senior design project are presented and discussed

Use of Monte Carlo Simulation for Analyzing Queues in a Financial Institution - A Case Study

Extensive queues are big issues for financial institutions and also for the customers. Because of this, the objective of this study is to analyze queues in a financial institution in its several sectors. Statistical modeling in Monte Carlo simulation using Microsoft Excel was applied to analyze the queues in different days of the week and in different situations that include general customer service, business customer service, and drive-through customer service. During the study, some issues were found due to the number of tellers who serve these queues but simple and appropriate solutions were proposed for providing good service to the customers and minimizing waiting time of the customers in the queue

Abstract -Students achievement in design and hands-on laboratory experience are important part of engineering education. To meet this requirement, the department of mechanical and industrial engineering offers design and manufacturing courses to engineering students at Mercer University School of Engineering (MUSE). In this paper, how the manufacturing laboratory facilities, and design/automation hardware and software available are effectively integrated to teach Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), CAD/CAM integration, dimensioning and tolerancing, and measurement and inspection with appropriate hands-on experiences to engineering students are presented and discussed. A Design (CAD), Fabrication (CAM), and Measurement (CMM) module, a Design and Fabrication of Spline (DFS module) using the rotary axis of a CNC machining center, and a laboratory experiment in robotics along with results obtained from student team projects are presented, analyzed, and discussed
