They have many problems, actually writing genre and especially in narrative text. The purpose from this research is to analyze students’ ability in developing narrative text, and to know what the problem it happened to the students. The subjects of this research were the third semester of English education study program, and the sum of this subject was 36 students.This research used qualitative research. The data was collected by using questionnaire. The predicted research finding is the most valuable one that the students’ writing ability can be well, if we practice in our daily activity like make a story. 

    INCREASING STUDENTS’ WRITING SKILL TO DEVELOP IDEAS IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT THROUGH THE USE OF INTERNET-BASED MATERIALS

    The objective of the research are: (1) to identify weather and to what extend the use of internet-based materials increase students’ skill in developing ideas to write descriptive text; and (2) to describe the strengths and the weaknesses of internet-based materials in this research. The Classroom Action Research which was carried out at Muhammadiyah University of Metro for the third semester in the academic year of 2012/2013. In collecting the data, she used interviews, observations, questionnaires, diaries, documents, and tests. The data were analyzed through Constant Comparative Method and descriptive statistics. The research findings showed that internet-based materials can increase students’ writing skill in developing ideas to write descriptive text. The increase in students’ writing skill includes: 1) The number of appropriate paragraphs in describing something is all describing the topic. 2) The number of appropriate sentences in describing something was all representing main idea in the paragraphs. 3) Students had knowledge able substantive, development of thesis topic relevant to assign topic. 4) Students were fluent expression, ideas clearly stated / support, well organized, logical sequencing, cohesive and correct the generic structure of descriptive text such as identification and description. 5) Students were sophisticated range, effective word or diction choice and usage word from mastery, appropriate register. 6) Students have effective complex construction, few errors of agreement, tense number, word order/function, articles, pronoun, and preposition. 7) Students were demonstrated mastery of conventions, few errors spelling, punctuation, capitalization, paragraphing. The final result of the tests showed that their score were increasing in the mean score; from 69 (pre test) to 73 (test in cycle 1), 79 (test in cycle 2), and 81 (in cycle 3). It was above the minimum standard of the school (72). Related to the strengths of internet-based materials, includes: 1) Teaching and learning were more effective; 2) The students were interested in the lesson especially in writing; 3) The students’ writing ideas were well developed; 4) The students did the task given by the lecturer; 5) The students’ knowledge was improved. The weaknesses of internet-based materials includes: 1) The students were not controlled when they used internet; 2) The students frequently opened another sites for teaching and learning process; 3) Students needed a long time to access the materials from the internet; 4) The time management related to the classroom situation; 5) Teaching and learning process became crowded

    THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ READING MOTIVATION, VOCABULARY MASTERY AND WRITING ABILITY IN RECOUNT TEXT

    The purposes of this research are to know the correlation between students’ reading motivation and writing ability in recount text, the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability in recount text, the correlation between students’ reading motivation and vocabulary mastery and the correlation between students’ reading motivation, vocabulary mastery, and writing ability in recount text. This research is quantitative research by using correlation method. In taking the sample, the researcher used saturated sampling technique. The amount of the sample are 38 students at third semester of English Study Program in Muhammadiyah University Academic Year 2015/2016. This research instrument were test and questionnaire. The finding showed that there is correlation between students’ reading motivation and writing ability in recount text namely rxy=0,534. Then, there is correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability in recount text namely rxy=0,583. After that, there is correlation between students’ reading motivation and vocabulary mastery namely rxy=0,488. Lastly, there is correlation between students’ reading motivation ,vocabulary mastery and writing ability in recount text namely rxy= 0,788

    STUDENTS’ ERROR ANALYSIS IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT BASED ON BETTY SCHRAMPFER AZAR THEORYAT MTs AL MUHSIN METRO IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

    The research aimed at analyzing the errors made by students in writing recount text of the Eighth Grade Students of MTs Al Muhsin Metro In The Academic Year  2021/2022. The subject of this research consists of 34 students in VIII A. The objectives of the study were (1)To know kinds of errors in writing recount text made by the students at the eighth grade MTs Al Muhsin Metro in the Academic Year 2021/2022. (2)To know the dominant error in writing recount text made by the students at the eight grade MTs Al Muhsin Metro in the Academic Year 2021/2022. This study used qualitative research, with a descriptive method. The instruments of the research was a test and documetation for the students. The errors were collected, identified, and classified based on guiding of writing by Betty Schrampfer Azar theory. It was specified by fourteen types of errors they are singular-plural, word form, word choice, verb tense, add a word, omit a word, incomplete sentence, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, article, and run-on sentence. The result shows that the errors made by student were 1) spelling as the dominant error with a total 31 errors or 23,48%. 2) Verb tense with a total 25 errors or 18,94%. 3) Capitalization with a total 16 errors or 12,12%. 4) Meaning not clear with a total 9 errors or 6,82%. 5) Word choice with a total 8 errors or 6,06%. 6) Word order with a total 7 errors or 5,30%. 7) Word form with a total 6 errors or 4,55%. 8) Punctuation  7 errors or 5,30 %. 9) Article with a total 5 errors or 3,79%. 10) Run on sentence with a total 5 errors or 3,79%. 11) Singular plural with a total 4 errors or 3,03%. 12) Add a word with a total 4 errors or 3,03%. 13) Omit a word with a total 3 errors or 2,27%, and 14) incomplete sentence with a total 3 errors or 2,27%

    The Relationship Between Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension: An Assessment Prespective

    In reading comprehension has some factors that influence the skill. One of the factors is vocabulary mastery. The objective of this research is to know whether there is any correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension and the degree of correlation. The total of the participants of this research was 30 students in VII A of the seventh grade students of SMPN 7 Metro. Cluster random sampling technique was used to get the sample. A correlatinal analysis was employed to know the relationship between scores in the reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery test. Based on the research calculation by using correlation product moment, it was obtained that  is 0,462, and  is 0,367 in significant 5% and 0,470 in significant 1%. The average of vocabulary mastery was 61,6. The finding also indicate that the students’ achievement in the vocabulary was poor. The average score of reading comprehension was 62,4. It means that the students’ achivement in the reading comprehension was fair. Therefore, the findings provide that there was a positive correlation between vocabuary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh grade students of SMP N 7 Metro

    Derivational affixes are affixes that are added to root words to produce new wordsthat have different meaning or part of speech. The objectives of this research areto find out the derivational affixes in The Hunting Party novel by Lucy Foley and toexplain the formation of words containing derivational affixes found in The HuntingParty novel by Lucy Foley. The research design of this research is descriptivequalitative. The data are analyzed by separating root words and affixes based ona list of words containing derivational affixes in the table, classifying words thatcontain derivational affixes based on their part of speech, and drawing theconclusions. The results of this research show that derivational affixes found in TheHunting Party novel by Lucy Foley are a-, un-, im-, dis-, in-, re-, over-, pre-, under-, pro-, non-, dys-, ir-, il- as prefixes and ly-, -tion, -ship, -ment, -less, -ion, -ate, -ence, -ity, -ness, -ful, -er, -ably, -ary, -able, -ation, -ish, -ison, -ous, -ive, -ant, -ure, -al, -ize, -ically, -ance, -ty, -ing, -ent, -hood, -cy, -ible, -y, -en, -ious, -ar, -ic, -tic, -age, -sion, -ine, -eous, -let, -ery, -ian, -ist, -by, -or, -ism, -ior, -ory, -cise as suffixes.The total number of words containing derivational affixes in The Hunti ng Partynovel by Lucy Foley is 852 words. In the formation of words containing derivationalaffixes, there are several rules, such as the final letter of the root word beingomitted, changed, or adding a letter before the affix is given

    AN ANALYSIS OF GRAMMATICAL COHESION IN COVID-19 NEWS OF THE JAKARTA POST

    Grammatical   cohesion   is   the   combination   of   sentences   that   formed   by grammatical aspect. Language can produce two kinds there are spoken and written The objectives of this research are to describe the types of reference and subtitution and discover the most frequently types of reference and subtitution that used in The Jakarta Post news. Grammatical cohesion is the object of this research. The news in The  Jakarta  Post is the subject of this research. The  method  of this research  is Qualitative research. The  result  of  this  study  are  found  436  of  grammatical  cohesion  consist  of reference were 434 data, and substitution are 2 data. The most frequently types of using grammatical cohesion is demonstrative reference with the percentage 60.80% of. The used of grammatical cohesion are personal reference showed of 27.80 % data, comparative reference showed of 11% data, nominal substitution showed of 0.20% data, verbal substitution found   of 0.20% data and causal substitution with the percentage 0%.  Based on the data it can be concluded that in The Jakarta Post found all the grammatical cohesion except causal substitution. &nbsp

    Derivational suffix is a part of linguistics learn about word whichadded by affixes may change the meaning and the part of speech. This researchdeals with the derivational suffix of song lyrics. The researcher focuses onderivational suffix types and function. The objectives of the research were todescribe types and function about change class changing and class maintaining inderivational suffix in song lyrics. Descriptive qualitative method was used toanalyze the data. The techniques used in collecting the data is documentationThis research applied the theory of Plag (2002) to indentify the types ofderivational suffix. From the analysis, it is found that 36 derivational suffixesdivided into 3 types, 21 nominal suffix (is –er, -tion –al, -al –ment –ion –ion, -ment –ion –ence -tion –er –ity –ity ––ness –ion –ity –ion, -ist –ette, -age), 10 adverbsuffix (-y, –ly, –ly, –ly, –ly, –ly, –ly, –ly, -ly, -ly), 5 adjective suffix (: -ful, -ly, -y, -ual, -able). The suffixes which found in the data have 31 word class changingand 5 class maintaining,the researcher conluded that suffix –ly give manycontributions in the suffix found in lyrics of album
