New insights into the genetic etiology of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias

Characterization of the genetic landscape of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADD) provides a unique opportunity for a better understanding of the associated pathophysiological processes. We performed a two-stage genome-wide association study totaling 111,326 clinically diagnosed/'proxy' AD cases and 677,663 controls. We found 75 risk loci, of which 42 were new at the time of analysis. Pathway enrichment analyses confirmed the involvement of amyloid/tau pathways and highlighted microglia implication. Gene prioritization in the new loci identified 31 genes that were suggestive of new genetically associated processes, including the tumor necrosis factor alpha pathway through the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex. We also built a new genetic risk score associated with the risk of future AD/dementia or progression from mild cognitive impairment to AD/dementia. The improvement in prediction led to a 1.6- to 1.9-fold increase in AD risk from the lowest to the highest decile, in addition to effects of age and the APOE ε4 allele

Tijdens een symposium over de kwetsbaarheid van mensen is het boek HAN SOCIAAL Kennisproducten 2015: Praktische hulpmiddelen voor maatschappelijke dienstverlening gepresenteerd. In de bundel staan ruim 40 beschikbare kennisproducten en diensten. Deze zijn bedoeld voor -en zijn ook in nauwe samenwerking ontwikkeld met- professionals en partnerinstellingen in het sociale werkveld, én met collega-docenten en docentonderzoekers van uiteenlopende HAN-opleidingen

Alliance in Youth Care

This article introduces the concept of alliance in youth care. The concept of (therapeutic) alliance originates in adult psychotherapy and related research. Alliance refers to the working relationship between youth care workers and their clients. Within this concept, personal (emotional) and task related components can be discerned. The body of psychotherapy research suggests that a positive alliance is perhaps the most powerful predictor of a positive outcome of the collaboration between clients and care professionals. The question that arises there from is: does this also hold true for youth care? Firstly, this article provides a brief overview of alliance, based on the research in psychotherapy (where the concept was thoroughly analysed). Secondly the article gives an overview of alliance in youth care, researched by the Research Group for Key Factors in Youth Care. It is presented as a vital factor within the conceptual theoretical frame of the Integrative Change Factors (ICF) model for youth care. The concept of the ICF model is followed by a description of the development of the YCAS, an instrument to measure alliance in youth care. In conclusion the article reflects on goals for future research on the concept of alliance, aimed at assessing its importance for youth care provision and at providing professionals with valid tools to boost and uphold their alliance building and monitoring skills

Wat je doet én hoe je het doet: cliëntbejegening op het consultatiebureau

De GGD Nijmegen heeft binnen haar diverse consultatiebureau-vestigingen cliëntbejegening vorm gegeven in een richtlijn, gebaseerd op de gespreksmethodiek van Muller (2001). De uitgangspunten daarvan vinden steun in de recente literatuur. Hoe door jeugdverpleegkundigen uitvoering wordt gegeven aan deze richtlijn is tegen het licht gehouden in het hier gerapporteerde praktijkonderzoek. In samenspraak met ouders zijn daartoe door consultatiebureau-professionals 27 criteria opgesteld. Op 12 daarvan scoort de uitvoering van de richtlijn op of boven de zelf gestelde 80%-norm. Bijvoorbeeld bij: ‘ Afname van de intervalanamnese met behulp van een checklist’. Een voorbeeld van een criterium waarop de onderzochte professionals de norm niet halen is ‘Checken bij ouders of alles begrepen is’. De uitkomsten van onze observatiestudie sluiten aan bij de actuele geluiden in de media over hoe ouders het bezoek aan het consultatiebureau ervaren. Tegelijkertijd laten ze zien hoe in samenspraak met ouders effectief kan worden gewerkt aan kwaliteitsverbetering van consultvoering
