ROLE OF KSHARASUTRA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF RECURRENT EAR PINNA KELOID - A CASE STUDY

    Get PDF
Ear pinna Keloid is an over growth of the fibrous tissue which is concerned in wound healing and strengthening of the wound. The cause of keloid is piercing, pimple, acne, chickenpox, insect bite, infection, repeated trauma. As per ear pinna keloid excessive and repeated ear piercing is main cause which is bad gift of modern style. Keloids affect both sexes equally, although the incidence in young female patients has been higher than in young males, probably reflecting the greater frequency of ear lobe piercing among women. The frequency of occurrence is 15 times higher in highly pigmented people. Surgery is one of the treatments on that. But its not last and best. because even after surgery there is chances of recurrence. The most effective treatment is superficial external beam radiotherapy (SRT), but its economically costly. So comparative to all this Ksharasutra is cheap and best result with minimum injury. In Ayurvedic samhita its described as Arbuda of Karna Pali. Ksharasutra is best treatment as compare with modern surgery. Ksharasutra do duel work excision as well as healing. It is have property of incision, excision, debridement, scrapping along with aerostatic, antiseptic and healing. Present case is successful management of recurrent ear pinna keloid by Ksharasutra

Background: Platelet-rich plasma helps in repair because of its growth factor. Platelet-rich plasma has been used in humans for its healing properties. Increased concentration of growth factors and secretory proteins at may increase the process of healing on a cellular level. The PRP increases the incorporation of cells, proliferation, and differentiation in tissue regeneration of the cell involved.  This study was done to check the effectiveness of PRP injections in patients with chronic lateral epicondylitis or tennis elbow. Methods: This study was done on the patients visiting the orthopaedic OPD at MGM medical college and hospital, kamothe, Navi Mumbai. Total number of patients for this study was 40 out of which 32 were male and 8 were females. The mean age of the patients was 48.1years (range 17-82 years).Study period was 3 months. Stastical tool used is visual analog score. Results: Successful treatment was taken as more than 20% reduction i.e.(24 out of 40 patients)  in visual analog score after 3 month. The mean VAS score was decreased from 6.98 to 4.91 after 3 months in males. While in females, mean VAS score was decreased from 6.66 to 5.22 after 3 months of PRP injection in lateral epicondylitis. Conclusions: Treatment of patients with PRP with chronic lateral epicondylitis or tennis elbow with PRP reduces pain and increases function of the affected elbow joint

Development and in-vitro evaluation of candy based medicated lollipops: a novel system of drug delivery

Lollipops or lozenges are defined as the flavored medicated dosage forms intended to be sucked and held in the mouth or pharynx containing one or more medicaments usually in the sweetened base. Lollipops are commonly used for the purpose of local or systemic effects through the buccal mucosa. Advantages of the lollipop as dosage forms include increase in bioavailability, reduction in dose size, gastric irritation and bypass first metabolism1. Lollipop is designed to improve patient compliance, acceptability, transportation etc2The lollipops were prepared by heating and congealing method in a candy based industry with sucrose base. All the formulations prepared were subjected to various physicochemical parameters like hardness, content uniformity, friability, weight variation etc. Thickness of lollipop ranges from 12-13.2 mm. The hardness of these lollipops ranges between 10-11.5 kg/cm... Results of in-vitro release profile indicated that formulation L3, L6, and L10 were the most promising formulations as the extent of drug release from this formulation was high as compare to other formulations up to 30 mins. The in vitro release of medicated lollipop of ambroxol hcl was found in the release of drug from the lollipop depends on the type and concentration of polymer used. As per all satisfactory evaluation parameters, the batch L3 is found to be optimized batch. The stability studies showed that there was no change in the formulation after 90 days. The medicated lollipops can provide an attractive alternative formulation in the treatment of mucolytics in pediatric patients. Keywords: Amboxol HCl, Lollipops, mucolytic and mucokinetics
