Tackling Challenges in Seebeck Coefficient Measurement of Ultra-High Resistance Samples with an AC Technique
Seebeck coefficient is a widely studied semiconductor property. Conventional Seebeck coefficient measurements are based on DC voltage measurement. Normally this is performed on samples with moderate resistances (e.g., below a few MΩ level). Certain semiconductors are intrinsic and highly resistive. Many examples can be found in optical and photovoltaic materials. The hybrid halide perovskites that have gained extensive attention recently are a good example. Despite great attention from the materials and physics communities, few successful studies exist of the Seebeck coefficient of these compounds, for example CH3NH3PbI3. An AC-technique-based Seebeck coefficient measurement is reported, which makes high-quality Seebeck voltage measurements on samples with resistances up to the 100 GΩ level. This is achieved through a specifically designed setup to enhance sample isolation and increase capacitive impedance. As a demonstration, Seebeck coefficient measurement of a CH3NH3PbI3 thin film is performed at dark, with sample resistance 150 GΩ, and found S = +550 µV K−1. The strategy reported could be applied to the studies of fundamental transport parameters of all intrinsic semiconductors that have not been feasible
IgG4-related lymphadenopathy: A potentially under- and over-diagnosed entity
IgG4-related lymphadenopathy (IgG4-LAD) is newly described entity, which may occur before, during or after diagnosis of extranodal IgG4-related disease. It is important to recognize IgG4-LAD, especially in cases with lymphadenopathy as the initial presentation, so that the patients can receive prompt treatment. However, it can be challenging to formulate a final diagnosis since IgG4-LAD displays a broad morphologic spectrum. Moreover, morphologic changes alone are not sufficient for diagnosis of IgG4-LAD, and an accurate diagnosis has to take into account of the overall clinical presentations and laboratory studies. Currently, it is not very clear when pathologists should consider workup for potential IgG4-LAD based on the histologic features. Particularly, for some pathologists, it is not certain how to render the diagnosis in reactive lymph nodes with markedly increased IgG4 + cells. In this review, we will attempt to summarize the major clinicopathologic features of IgG4-LAD and its variants, differential diagnoses, and algorithms to establish an accurate diagnosis
Sulfur-nickel foam as cathode materials for lithium-sulfur batteries
Sulfur-nickel foam cathode materials prepared by an in situ solution-based method were served as electrode of lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. At the rate of 0.5 C, the Li-S cells deliver an initial discharge capacity of 1340 mAh g–1 and 493 mAh g–1 after 500 cycles. It is shown that these Li-S cells are of high rate stabilities with a nearly 100% stable coulombic efficiency at various rates from 0.1 C to 5 C. The electrochemical stability of Li-S batteries is mainly due to the strong binding between the highly dispersed sulphur and nickel foam skeletons
Work Function of Single-wall Silicon Carbide Nanotube
Using first-principles calculations, we study the work function of single
wall silicon carbide nanotube (SiCNT). The work function is found to be highly
dependent on the tube chirality and diameter. It increases with decreasing the
tube diameter. The work function of zigzag SiCNT is always larger than that of
armchair SiCNT. We reveal that the difference between the work function of
zigzag and armchair SiCNT comes from their different intrinsic electronic
structures, for which the singly degenerate energy band above the Fermi level
of zigzag SiCNT is specifically responsible. Our finding offers potential
usages of SiCNT in field-emission devices.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figure
Hurst parameter analysis of radio pulsar timing noise
We present an analysis of timing residual (noise) of 54 pulsars obtained from
25-m radio telescope at Urumqi Observatory with a time span of 5~8 years,
dealing with statistics of the Hurst parameter. The majority of these pulsars
were selected to have timing noise that look like white noise rather than
smooth curves. The results are compared with artificial series of different
constant pairwise covariances. Despite the noise like appearance, many timing
residual series showed Hurst parameters significantly deviated from that of
independent series. We concluded that Hurst parameter may be capable of
detecting dependence in timing residual and of distinguishing chaotic behavior
from random processes.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables, Submitted to MNRA
Antiviral treatment alters the frequency of activating and inhibitory receptor-expressing natural killer cells in chronic Hepatitis B virus infected patients
Natural killer (NK) cells play a critical role in innate antiviral immunity, but little is known about the impact of antiviral therapy on the frequency of NK cell subsets. To this aim, we performed this longitudinal study to examine the dynamic changes of the frequency of different subsets of NK cells in CHB patients after initiation of tenofovir or adefovir therapy. We found that NK cell numbers and subset distribution differ between CHB patients and normal subjects; furthermore, the association was found between ALT level and CD158b+ NK cell in HBV patients. In tenofovir group, the frequency of NK cells increased during the treatment accompanied by downregulated expression of NKG2A and KIR2DL3. In adefovir group, NK cell numbers did not differ during the treatment, but also accompanied by downregulated expression of NKG2A and KIR2DL3. Our results demonstrate that treatment with tenofovir leads to viral load reduction, and correlated with NK cell frequencies in peripheral blood of chronic hepatitis B virus infection. In addition, treatments with both tenofovir and adefovir in chronic HBV infected patients induce a decrease of the frequency of inhibitory receptor+ NK cells, which may account for the partial restoration of the function of NK cells in peripheral blood following treatment
