Diagnosis on illegal seizure of wildlife in the Department of chocó (colombian Northern pacific)

El departamento del Chocó (Pacífico norte colombiano) fi-gura dentro de los ocho lugares registrados como los prin-cipales sitios de origen de la fauna silvestre decomisada en Colombia; sin embargo, para la región no se cuenta con estadísticas claras sobre las especies con mayor frecuencia de decomiso, ni con evaluaciones sobre el proceso y la dis-posición de los ejemplares posterior al mismo, elementos que podrían ser fundamentales para el diseño de estrategias de conservación del recurso. Por lo anterior, en el presente estudio, se identificó la fauna silvestre decomisada en el de-partamento del Chocó, durante 2005 a 2010, para lo cual, se revisaron las bases de datos oficiales de autoridades ambien-tales y se entrevistaron a funcionarios de las mismas. A nivel de resultados, se obtuvo que las aves y los mamíferos son los grupos taxonómicos más decomisados, ya que cerca del 80% de individuos aprehendidos pertenecen a estos taxones. La especie más incautada fue Trachemys callirostris calli-rostris (tortuga Icotea), con el 22,2% (161 individuos), del total de individuos. El municipio de Quibdó es la zona geo-gráfica del departamento donde se registró el mayor número de individuos y de especies decomisadas. No se identifica-ron rutas establecidas para el tráfico de fauna silvestre. En cuanto a conservación, se estableció que la mayor parte de las especies decomisadas (80,6%), se clasifican en alguna categoría de amenaza, según los criterios establecidos por la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (UICN), siendo los peces, las aves y los mamíferos los verte-brados más críticos en esta materia.Chocó department belongs to the eight places with the ma-jor illegal wildlife commercial trade and wildlife confiscation registered in Colombia. Nevertheless, there is no clear statis-tic about species frequently involved; a serious assessment about wildlife decommissions (processes and management) have not been carried out. This Information could be used as tool to support implementation of resource management or as conservation strategy. This study describes seized wildlife in the department of Chocó during six years (2005-2010), based on an intensive revision from official databases of envi-ronmental authorities and interviews with officials. The results showed that 80% of the seized wildlife is composed of birds and mammals. Trachemys callirostris callirostris (turtle Ico-tea) was the most seized species (161 individuals correspon-ding to 22.2% of illegal wildlife seized). The municipality of Quibdó is the geographical area of Chocó department where the highest number of individuals and species were confisca-ted. No established routes for illegal wildlife trafficking were found. In terms of conservation the majority of confiscated species (80.6%) are in a category of threat according to crite-ria established by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of threatened species. Fish, bird and mammal species seized in Chocó department are under the highest threatened level by the UICN criteria.Incluye referencias bibliográfica

Education on responsible pet ownership for students of the Carrasquilla Industrial educational institution, in the municipality of Quibdó-Chocó

El presente proyecto aplicado se desarrolló con el objetivo de concientizar a los estudiantes de primaria sobre la importancia y el cuidado que deben tener al ser tenedores de mascotas, ya que es una responsabilidad a tener en cuenta. El abandono, el maltrato, la proliferación indiscriminada de perros y gatos trae consigo problemas socioeconómicos, de salud pública y ambientales, solo con una adecuada concientización encaminada al cuidado y la protección de nuestras mascotas impartiendo el conocimiento desde los colegios, y los estudiantes replicando lo aprendido en sus casas amigos familiares se podrá terminar con este flagelo. Los resultados obtenidos en la encuesta que se aplicó indicaron que los estudiantes tienen carencia de conocimiento sobre la tenencia responsable de mascotas, los que tienen mascotas en casa y los que no, si se requiere lograr una tenencia responsable de mascotas es necesario concientizar a estudiantes y población en general sobre el tema. Teniendo en cuenta la información obtenida, nuestro propósito con este proyecto es poder llegar a los estudiantes de 4° grado de la institución educativa carrasquilla industrial del municipio de Quibdó-chocó a través de materiales didácticos, charlas educativas sobre la tenencia responsable de mascotas y asíse puedan convertirse en unos verdaderos cuidadores de los animales domésticos. Se pudo concluir, que los niños pueden ser una buena herramienta como multiplicadores de información para que los temas relacionados con la tenencia responsable de mascotas puedan ser difundidos en las distintas esferas transitadas por los niños, hogares, amigos, familiares, entre otros; al igual se pudiera incluir esta temática en el proyecto ambiental escolar (PRAE), donde se beneficien toda la población infantil de las instituciones educativas.This applied project was developed with the objective of raising awareness among primary school students about the importance and care they must take when owning pets, since it is a responsibility to take into account. The abandonment, abuse, and indiscriminate proliferation of dogs and cats brings with it socioeconomic, public health and environmental problems, only with adequate awareness aimed at the care and protection of our pets by imparting knowledge from schools, and students replicating what learned in their homes from friends and family, this scourge can end. The results obtained in the survey that was applied indicated that students lack knowledge about responsible pet ownership, those who have pets at home and those who do not, if responsible pet ownership is required to be achieved, it is necessary to raise awareness among students and general population on the subject. Taking into account the information obtained, our purpose with this project is to be able to reach the 4th grade students of the Carrasquilla Industrial educational institution of the municipality of Quibdó-chocó through teaching materials, educational talks on responsible pet ownership and so on. They can become true caregivers of domestic animals. It was concluded that children can be a good tool as information multipliers so that topics related to responsible pet ownership can be disseminated in the different spheres visited by children, homes, friends, family, among others; Likewise, this topic could be included in the school environmental project (PRAE), where benefit the entire child population of educational institutions
