Abstract\ud
Different planning techniques have been applied to the problem of automated composition of web services. However, in realistic cases, this planning problem is far from trivial: the planner needs to deal with the nondeterministic behavior of web services, the partial observability of their internal status, and with complex goals expressing temporal conditions and preference requirements. We propose a planning technique for the automated composition of web services described in OWL-S process models, which can deal effectively with nondeterminism, partial observability, and complex goals. The technique allows for the synthesis of plans that encode compositions of web services with the usual programming constructs, like conditionals and iterations. The generated plans can thus be translated into executable processes, e.g., BPEL4WS programs. We implement our solution in a planner and do some preliminary experimental evaluations that show the potentialities of our approach, and the gain in performance of automating the composition at the semantic level w.r.t. the automated composition at the level of executable processes
Tool for efficient intermodulation analysis using conventional HB packages
A simple and efficient approach is proposed for the intermodulation analysis of nonlinear microwave circuits. The algorithm, which is based on a very mild assumption about the frequency response of the linear part of the circuit, allows for a reduction in computing time and memory requirement. Moreover. It can be easily implemented using any conventional tool for harmonic-balance circuit analysi
Social hotspots life cycle assessment: A case study on social risks of an antimicrobial keyboard cover
This article explores the application of social life cycle assessment (S-LCA) to products or technologies in their earliest developing phase. Indeed, it would be beneficial to have an overview of the social risks generated by novel products and understand what their potential supply chain would be like. To this end, this study presents a S-LCA study for identifying hotspots linked to a novel product: an antimicrobial keyboard cover integrating gold nanoparticles. Firstly, countries which could supply Europe with the input materials required in the system were identified, then by following the S-LCA methodology working hours and working functional hours were estimated. Ultimately, social risks were calculated by combining working functional hours with social risk levels and weights, concerning the relative importance of each category and sub-category.
The analysis helped to determine which countries could supply the materials needed and hence become part of the potential supply chain of antimicrobial keyboard covers integrating gold nanoparticles. Furthermore, it led to the identification of main social hotspots linked to each material used. In general, results show that the stakeholders most at risk of adverse social impacts across different sectors and countries are workers. Indeed, they may be affected on both their rights and work conditions, health and safety. The process of gold mining highlights the difference in terms of social risks between more developed countries, such as Australia and Sweden, and developing countries, such as South Africa. The production of chemicals presents a homogeneity in terms of risk hours associated to the considered European countries
Automated synthesis of executable web service compositions from BPEL4WS processes
We propose a technique for the automated synthesis of new com-posite web services. Given a set of abstract BPEL4WS descriptions of component services, and a composition requirement, we auto-matically generate a concrete BPEL4WS process that, when exe-cuted, interacts with the components and satisfies the requirement. We implement the proposed approach exploiting efficient repre-sentation techniques, and we show its scalability over case stud-ies taken from a real world application and over a parameterized domain
Experimental and numerical study of error fields in the CNT stellarator
Sources of error fields were indirectly inferred in a stellarator by
reconciling computed and numerical flux surfaces. Sources considered so far
include the displacements and tilts (but not the deformations, yet) of the four
circular coils featured in the simple CNT stellarator. The flux surfaces were
measured by means of an electron beam and phosphor rod, and were computed by
means of a Biot-Savart field-line tracing code. If the ideal coil locations and
orientations are used in the computation, agreement with measurements is poor.
Discrepancies are ascribed to errors in the positioning and orientation of the
in-vessel interlocked coils. To that end, an iterative numerical method was
developed. A Newton-Raphson algorithm searches for the coils' displacements and
tilts that minimize the discrepancy between the measured and computed flux
surfaces. This method was verified by misplacing and tilting the coils in a
numerical model of CNT, calculating the flux surfaces that they generated, and
testing the algorithm's ability to deduce the coils' displacements and tilts.
Subsequently, the numerical method was applied to the experimental data,
arriving at a set of coil displacements whose resulting field errors exhibited
significantly improved quantitative and qualitative agreement with experimental
results.Comment: Special Issue on the 20th International Stellarator-Heliotron

Effectiveness of an executive function training in italian preschool educational services and far transfer effects to pre-academic skills
In this study we examine the effectiveness and far transfer effects of a training that was found to be effective in promoting Executive Function (EF) in a sample of 5-year-old children (Traverso et al., 2015). By contrast with Traverso et al. (2015), the intervention was administered by regular teachers to verify its ecological validity. Far transfer was assessed by evaluating the training effects on pre-academic skills. 126 children attending the last year of Italian preschool educational services took part in the study (mainly 5-year-old children). Pre-and post-test assessments were conducted using a large EF and pre-academic skill task battery. The results indicate that the experimental group outperformed the control group in an interference suppression composite score. Moreover, significant far transfer effects to pre-academic skills in literacy domain were found. In addition, we found that the improvement in the pre academic skills (in both literacy and math domains) was mediated by the improvement in the interference suppression score. The results suggest the possibility that this intervention, which may be easily implemented in the context of educational services, can promote EF during the preschool period before entry to primary school
АВТОМАТИЗОВАНИЙ СИНТЕЗ КОМПОЗИТНИХ BPEL4WS ВЕБ-СЕРВІСІВ. ПЕРЕКЛАД СТАТТІ «AUTOMATED SYNTHESIS OF COMPOSITE BPEL4WS WEB SERVICES» (ПЕРЕКЛАД РЕМАРОВИЧ С.)

Bilateral isolated C5 paralysis of the shoulder: Atypical presentation of a transdiscal C4-C5 cervical spine fracture.
After a low-energy fall, an 83-year-old man presented with bilateral weakness of the upper arms without loss of sensation associated with a rigid cervical spine (ankylosing spinal disorder, ASD). Because of an atypical presentation during history, examination and initial imaging, a late diagnosis of a transdiscal C4-C5 fracture was made by dynamic radiographs. Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion were performed with delay. Strength improved from grade C to D (American Spinal Injury Association classification) after surgery. To our knowledge, this is the first description of a bilateral, isolated upper limb C5 paralysis without any loss of sensation caused by a transdiscal C4-C5 fracture. A high clinical and diagnostic index of suspicion is mandatory to make the diagnosis. We present three clinical 'Awareness Criteria' (1: recognition of ASD; 2: high index of fracture suspicion; 3: necessary imaging) helping clinicians to safely and promptly diagnose occult spinal fractures in ASD
