Implementation of activities under article 42 of Teacher’s Charter in terms of diversity of physical activity
Prezentowana publikacja dotyczy wybranych zagadnień związanych z kulturą fizyczną i zdrowotną współczesnego człowieka. Autorzy – specjaliści z zakresu pedagogiki, nauk medycznych i nauk o kulturze fizycznej – podejmują m.in. problematykę wartości kultury fizycznej w procesie kształcenia i wychowania, współczesnych czynników promocji zdrowia i edukacji zdrowotnej, zdrowotnych uwarunkowań aktywności ruchowej czy społecznych kontekstów idei olimpijskiej. Tematyka ta wpisuje się w ważny nurt rozważań, w którym poszukuje się nowych rozwiązań pedagogicznych, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do idei edukacji olimpijskiej i zdrowotnej.Since September 1st 2009, all teachers have been required to carry out activities under Article 42
of the Teachers’ Charter, within working hours. The aim of these activities is to increase educational
opportunities for students by working with gifted students or those with learning difficulties, and developing
individual interests. Therefore, in the field of school physical education, an additional opportunity
has been created for the realisation of a variety of physical activities, including sport, recreation, tourism
and health. Referring to the arrangements for the implementation of the working hours, which is
mentioned in Article 42, point 2 of the Teacher’s Charter, studies have been conducted on a group
of 78 physical education teachers in primary, lower secondary and upper secondary schools. The
research, carried out by a diagnostic survey at the methodical conference in 2014, aimed at gathering
opinions on: forms and areas of the implementation of the activities, assessment of the effectiveness
of ongoing didactic and educational forms of activities, and determining whether the activities
organised by teachers take into account the needs and interests of students, and fundamental canons
of methodology of physical education. Gathered results confirm the thesis of the superiority of sport
activities over the recreational ones and low status of health education in the implementation of corrective
and compensatory gymnastics
Does morphine remain a standard of care in acute myocardial infarction?
Morphine is routinely used for pain relief in patients with acute myocardial infarction. However, it was documented that morphine decreases the bioavailability and antiplatelet effect of P2Y12 receptor inhibitors. Multiple strategies to overcome this undesirable interaction are currently under investigation; they include the follwing: administration of crushed ticagrelor tablets, co-administration of metoclopramide, bridging with intravenous antiplatelet agents, or replacement of morphine with other analgesic. Adequately powered randomised trials examining the clinical consequences of concomitant use of morphine and P2Y12 receptor inhibitors are still lacking
Urban Laboratory – Laboratorium Miejskie
Tematyką artykułu są międzynarodowe warsztaty Urban Laboratory – Laboratorium miejskie. Miały one na celu naukę metody prototypowania, stworzenie projektów rozwiązujących problemy przestrzeni publicznej, przygotowanie podłoża do dalszych warsztatów i współpracę międzynarodową. Ważnym aspektem było włączenie w projekt osób niepełnosprawnych i zwrócenie uwagi na problem niedostosowanych do ich potrzeb przestrzeni publicznych. Po zakończeniu warsztatów uczestnicy zostali zaproszeni do udziału w Międzynarodowym Sympozjum naukowym i wystawie Venice Architecture, organizowanych podczas Biennale Architettura 2018 roku. Warsztaty i wyjazd udało się zrealizować dzięki wsparciu finansowemu władz Politechniki Łódzkiej. The main subject of the article are the Urban Laboratory workshops which took place on 28th-30th of May 2018. The purpose of the workshops was learning of a method of prototyping, creation of projects solving the issues of public space, preparation of the base for next workshops and international cooperation. A significant aspect of the workshops was constituted by including the project of the disabled and drawing attention to the problem of inadequacy of public space regarding the disabled. After the workshops ended, the participants were invited to take part in the International Science Symposium and the Venice Architecture Exhibition organised during Biennale Architettura 2018. The workshops and the trip were made possible thanks to the financial support of Łódź Technical University
ISAR-REACT 5 — czy to badanie powinno zmienić praktykę kliniczną?
Prasugrel and ticagrelor are oral P2Y12 receptor inhibitors indicated by the European Society of Cardiology as the preferred antiplatelet therapy in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Despite the long-term and widespread presence of these agents in clinical practice, to date they have never been directly compared in a large, randomised clinical trial. ISAR-REACT 5 was the first such study, and it reported the superiority of prasugrel over ticagrelor. However, due to the arguable methodology of both the planning and the execution of this study, its results should be interpreted with caution, and they should not be considered sufficient to justify any changes to the current treatment strategies for patients with ACS.Prasugrel i tikagrelor są doustnymi inhibitorami receptora P2Y12 wskazywanymi w wytycznych Europejskiego Towarzystwa Kardiologicznego jako preferowane leczenie przeciwpłytkowe u pacjentów z ostrymi zespołami wieńcowymi (ACS).
Creative scientific dispute — different points of view on the protocol and execution of the ISAR-REACT 5 trial
Discordant interpretations of the results of clinical trials often drive scientific disputes. Our position concerning the protocol and performance of the ISAR-REACT 5 trial have been termed as false and groundless in the recently published article. We deeply disagree with this judgement and still maintain all our opinions expressed in the previous publications, without any exceptions. As demonstrated in multiple studies, prasugrel has excellent effectiveness and predictability. In our previous publications, it was not the drug itself that we put under criticism, but rather the quality of the trial assessing the drug. As a consequence of this critical approach, we stated that taking into account the serious limitations of the ISAR-REACT 5 trial, its results should be taken with cautiousness. To summarize, we remain open to further creative scientific dispute enriching both readers and authors

The Influence of Land Cover on the Spatial Distribution of Fire Sites: A Case Study of Łódzkie Voivodeship, Poland
The paper continues from previous joint studies and their practical application at the confluence of human geography, safety-related research and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The objective of the study was to identify the land cover types most at risk from fire. The study has contributed an original angle by taking into account various land cover types with a potential influence on the distribution of fires geocoded at the address level. The analysis considered 27,651 fire interventions, as recorded by the Polish State Fire Service between 2014 and 2016 in the country’s central region known as Łódzkie Voivodeship. The main methods employed include various GIS tools, including Voronoi tessellation (to identify the areas most at risk of fire) and the fire location quotient (FLQ, a measure of the colocation between the number of fires and land cover). The most important conclusion is that of all the land cover types considered in the study, the built-up area type, especially the multi-family residential and retail and service area subtypes, was virtually the only one with a strong influence on the location of fires. The fire high-risk areas (FH-RA) identified here were primarily limited to urban areas. The paper continues from previous joint studies and their practical application at the confluence of human geography, safety-related research and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Diabetogenic effect of statins: a comprehensive review on the clinical relevance, underlying pathomechanisms and rationale for tailored statin therapy
Statins are potent hypolipidemic drugs effectively reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol serum concentration, but also exerting a wide range of pleiotropic effects. In numerous clinical trials statins were proven to substantially decrease cardiovascular morbidity and mortality both in primary and secondary prevention. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that statins, although safe and generally well-tolerated, are associated with an increased occurrence of new-onset diabetes mellitus (DM). The aim of this review is to explore the relationship between statin therapy and new-onset DM, including its clinical relevance and underlying pathomechanisms, and to discuss the concept of tailored statin therapy. According to our recently published comprehensive network meta-analysis including 113,394 patients, the high-dose statin regimens were connected with an elevated risk of new-onset DM as compared with moderate-dose statin regimens and a gradient for the risk of new-onset DM across different types and doses of statins was demonstrated. There are multiple possible mechanisms explaining the diabetogenic effect of statins (e.g., decreased insulin secretion, induction of b-cell apoptosis, increased insulin resistance or compromised glucose transport into the cells). Statins are among the most widely used drugs worldwide and physicians should be aware of the fact that there is a risk of new-onset DM across different types and doses of statins. Selection of adequate statin that suits patient’s needs remains the challenge of hypolipidemic therapy. The identification of individuals who would benefit more from smaller doses and/or use of less diabetogenic compounds could help to optimize the treatment and reduce the number of patients developing DM. The non-pharmacological approach such as adequate physical activity, weight reduction and low fat diet should not be neglected either. These actions create a chance to decrease baseline LDL-cholesterol concentration and reduce the number of both cardiovascular and DM risk factors. All in all, statins with their exceptional cardiovascular benefits will undoubtedly defend their position of a cornerstone of cardiovascular prevention because profits derived from statin therapy far exceed the potential harms connected with statin-induced impairments of glucose metabolism
