Bulk Band Gap and Surface State Conduction Observed in Voltage-Tuned Crystals of the Topological Insulator BiSe
We report a transport study of exfoliated few monolayer crystals of
topological insulator BiSe in an electric field effect (EFE) geometry.
By doping the bulk crystals with Ca, we are able to fabricate devices with
sufficiently low bulk carrier density to change the sign of the Hall density
with the gate voltage . We find that the temperature and magnetic
field dependent transport properties in the vicinity of this can be
explained by a bulk channel with activation gap of approximately 50 meV and a
relatively high mobility metallic channel that dominates at low . The
conductance (approximately 2 7), weak anti-localization, and
metallic resistance-temperature profile of the latter lead us to identify it
with the protected surface state. The relative smallness of the observed gap
implies limitations for EFE topological insulator devices at room temperature.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures. In new version, panels have been removed from

Stability of Horava-Lifshitz Black Holes in the Context of AdS/CFT
The anti--de Sitter/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence is a
powerful tool that promises to provide new insights toward a full understanding
of field theories under extreme conditions, including but not limited to
quark-gluon plasma, Fermi liquid and superconductor. In many such applications,
one typically models the field theory with asymptotically AdS black holes.
These black holes are subjected to stringy effects that might render them
unstable. Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity, in which space and time undergo
different transformations, has attracted attentions due to its power-counting
renormalizability. In terms of AdS/CFT correspondence, Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz
black holes might be useful to model holographic superconductors with Lifshitz
scaling symmetry. It is thus interesting to study the stringy stability of
Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz black holes in the context of AdS/CFT. We find that
uncharged topological black holes in Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz theory are
nonperturbatively stable, unlike their counterparts in Einstein gravity, with
the possible exceptions of negatively curved black holes with detailed balance
parameter close to unity. Sufficiently charged flat black holes for
close to unity, and sufficiently charged positively curved black
holes with close to zero, are also unstable. The implication to the

Reply to ``Comment on `Insulating Behavior of -DNA on the Micron Scale' "
In our experiment, we found that the resistance of vacuum-dried -DNA
exceeds at 295 K. Bechhoefer and Sen have raised a number of
objections to our conclusion. We provide counter arguments to support our

The Nernst effect in high- superconductors
The observation of a large Nernst signal in an extended region above
the critical temperature in hole-doped cuprates provides evidence that
vortex excitations survive above . The results support the scenario that
superfluidity vanishes because long-range phase coherence is destroyed by
thermally-created vortices (in zero field), and that the pair condensate
extends high into the pseudogap state in the underdoped (UD) regime. We present
a series of measurements to high fields which provide strong evidence for

Anomalous microwave response of high-temperature superconducting thin-film microstrip resonator in weak dc magnetic fields
We have studied an anomalous microwave (mw) response of superconducting
YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-delta} (YBCO) microstrip resonators in the presence of a weak
dc magnetic field, H_{dc}. The surface resistance (R_{s}) and reactance (X_{s})
show a correlated non-monotonic behaviour as a function of H_{dc}. R_{s} and
X_{s} were found to initially decrease with elevated H_{dc} and then increase
after H_{dc} reaches a crossover field, H_{c}, which is independent of the
amplitude and frequency of the input mw signal within the measurements. The
frequency dependence of R_{s} is almost linear at fixed H_{dc} with different
magnitudes (H_{c}). The impedance plane analysis
demonstrates that r_{H}, which is defined as the ratio of the change in
R_{s}(H_{dc}) and that in X_{s}(H_{dc}), is about 0.6 at H_{dc}<H_{c} and 0.1
at H_{dc}>H_{c}. The H_{dc} dependence of the surface impedance is

Burnout in gastroenterology registrars: a feasibility study conducted in the East of England using a 31-item questionnaire.
OBJECTIVE: The scale of burnout in UK gastroenterology trainees and the feasibility to determine its prevalence using the validated Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) tool are unknown. The primary objective of this region-wide pilot study was to evaluate the response rate to a 31-item questionnaire. The secondary objectives were to estimate the prevalence of burnout in gastroenterology trainees within the East of England deanery (EoE) and identify common stressors that trainees experience. DESIGN: This was a cross-sectional study involving gastroenterology trainees from 16 hospitals across the EoE using a 31-item questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of the 22-item MBI-HSS and nine additional free-text questions. All gastroenterology trainees in the EoE were invited to complete the anonymised survey online. Data were analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. RESULTS: The response rate for the survey was acceptable: 44.0% (40/91). 57.5% (23/40) of gastroenterology trainees reported emotional exhaustion. 23.5% (8/34) had depersonalisation and 63.9% (23/36) experienced low professional accomplishment. Burnout prevalence was 35.3% (12/34). 48.4% (15/31) of gastroenterology trainees were aware of professional support services within EoE. Stressors related to service requirements (eg, workload, staffing levels) and professional relationships with colleagues and patients were commonly reported: 65.6% and 25.0%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: It is feasible to use a 31-item questionnaire in a national cohort of UK gastroenterology trainees for future burnout studies. Burnout in EoE gastroenterology trainees was high and this may reflect a national prevalence within the specialty. More extensive studies, greater awareness of burnout and improved access to professional support services are required
TKGQA dataset: using question answering to guide and validate the evolution of temporal knowledge graph
Temporal knowledge graphs can be used to represent the current state of the world and, as daily events happen, the need to update the temporal knowledge graph, in order to stay consistent with the state of the world, becomes very important. However, there is currently no reliable method to accurately validate the update and evolution of knowledge graphs. There has been a recent development in text summarisation, whereby question answering is used to both guide and fact-check summarisation quality. The exact process can be applied to the temporal knowledge graph update process. To the best of our knowledge, there is currently no dataset that connects temporal knowledge graphs with documents with question–answer pairs. In this paper, we proposed the TKGQA dataset, consisting of over 5000 financial news documents related to M&A. Each document has extracted facts, question–answer pairs, and before and after temporal knowledge graphs, to highlight the state of temporal knowledge and any changes caused by the facts extracted from the document. As we parse through each document, we use question–answering to check and guide the update process of the temporal knowledge graph
Structural and molecular basis of the assembly of the TRPP2/PKD1 complex
Mutations in PKD1 and TRPP2 account for nearly all cases of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). These 2 proteins form a receptor/ion channel complex on the cell surface. Using a combination of biochemistry, crystallography, and a single-molecule method to determine the subunit composition of proteins in the plasma membrane of live cells, we find that this complex contains 3 TRPP2 and 1 PKD1. A newly identified coiled-coil domain in the C terminus of TRPP2 is critical for the formation of this complex. This coiled-coil domain forms a homotrimer, in both solution and crystal structure, and binds to a single coiled-coil domain in the C terminus of PKD1. Mutations that disrupt the TRPP2 coiled-coil domain trimer abolish the assembly of both the full-length TRPP2 trimer and the TRPP2/PKD1 complex and diminish the surface expression of both proteins. These results have significant implications for the assembly, regulation, and function of the TRPP2/PKD1 complex and the pathogenic mechanism of some ADPKD-producing mutations
