Experimental investigation of the radial structure of energetic particle driven modes

Alfv\'en eigenmodes (AEs) and energetic particle modes (EPMs) are often excited by energetic particles (EPs) in tokamak plasmas. One of the main open questions concerning EP driven instabilities is the non-linear evolution of the mode structure. The aim of the present paper is to investigate the properties of beta-induced AEs (BAEs) and EP driven geodesic acoustic modes (EGAMs) observed in the ramp-up phase of off-axis NBI heated ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) discharges. This paper focuses on the changes in the mode structure of BAEs/EGAMs during the non-linear chirping phase. Our investigation has shown that in case of the observed down-chirping BAEs the changes in the radial structure are smaller than the uncertainty of our measurement. This behaviour is most probably the consequence of that BAEs are normal modes, thus their radial structure strongly depends on the background plasma parameters rather than on the EP distribution. In the case of rapidly upward chirping EGAMs the analysis consistently shows shrinkage of the mode structure. The proposed explanation is that the resonance in the velocity space moves towards more passing particles which have narrower orbit widths.Comment: submitted to Nuclear Fusio

Assessment of specific toxicity of the complex remedy "Pancreophyt"

The experiments were carried out on white Wistar rats. The probable embryotoxic, teratogenic and fetotoxical influences of the plant remedy "Pancreophyt" at the doses of300 (1/10 DL50) and 600 mg/kg (1/5 DL50) were studied. The findings have shown that all indices of embryo lethality (the number of implantation sites, the number of alive fetus and the number of resorptions) in female white rats treated with the "Pancreophyt" do not differ significantly from the indices of the control group. The mass and craniocaudal dimensions of the fetus in the experimental group corresponded to the indices in the control group. In the second set of experiments the influence of the "Pancreophyt" (300 mg/kg) on the postnatal development of white rat offspring was studied. It was revealed that the death of infant rats was noted only on the 1st day of observation and was 4,7%; the liveweight gain and linear size of infant rats do not differ from the indices of those in the control group

The aim of the work was to evaluate the influence of the linimentfrom Pentaphylloides fruticosa L. on lipid peroxidation in rats with experimental diabetes mellitus accompanied by wound process. The liniment was developed with the use of NanoDeBee30 device. Experiments were carried out on white male Wistar rats. Experimental diabetes mellitus was simulated by a single intraperitoneal introduction of alloxan in a dose of 100 mg/kg. The skin injury was simulated by inflicting planar wounds 2.0 x 2.0 cm in size. 5 mg of the 5%-liniment from Pentaphylloides fruticosa was put on the wounds of the first experimental group once a day for 14 days. The second experimental group was treated by the preparation of comparison - balsamic liniment. The wounds of the control group were treated with glycerin-lanolin ointment. On the 7th, 14th and 21st day the concentration of TBA-active products in the blood serum was determined to estimate the intensity of lipid peroxidation processes; the contents of reduced glutathione and catalase activity were determined to evaluate the antioxidant status. The results of the experiments verify the marked curative effect of the linimentfrom Pentaphylloides fruticosa L. on the healing of the wounds on the background of experimental diabetes mellitus in rat

INVESTIGATION OF CENTRAL HEMODYNAMICS VIA RIGHT HEART AND PULMONARY ARTERY CATHETERIZATION IN PATIENTS WITH SYSTEMIC CONNECTIVE TISSUE DISEASES

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) associated with systemic connective tissue diseases (SCTD) is a poor prognostic manifestation of the latter that result in death if untreated. The invasive determination of hemodynamic parameters is prominent in diagnosing the disease and determining its treatment policy and prognosis. Objective: to analyze the results of catheterization in PAH-SCTD patients admitted to the V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology.Subjects and methods. The investigation included 59 patients admitted to the V.A. Nasonova Research Institute of Rheumatology from September 2009 to September 2014. PAH was diagnosed in accordance with the conventional guidelines. All the patients underwent right heart and pulmonary artery (PA) catheterization at the diagnosis and over time during treatment. Results and discussion. All the patients included in the trial met the pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension (PH) criteria: mean pulmonary artery pressure (MPAP) ≥25 mm Hg; and PA wedge pressure (PAWP) <15 mm Hg. The exclusion of other causes of PH (pulmonary fibrosis, left heart disease, and thromboembolism), as well as a high transpulmonary pressure gradient >15 mm Hg and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) >3 Wood units could diagnose PAH in all our patients. There was a statistically highly significant association between pathological hemodynamic changes and functional class (FC). FC was found to be most closely correlated with right atrial pressure (RAP), cardiac output (CO), PVR, and cardiac index (CI). Among the most common manifestations of heart failure, only the presence of peripheral edemas was associated with worse hemodynamic parameters in PAH. It should be noted that out of two biomarkers (N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide and uric acid), the former is largely related to the magnitude of changes in hemodynamic factors. The critical values of hemodynamic parameters were due to extreme edema – anasarca (RAP >17 mm Hg, PVR >20 Wood units, CI <14 ml/m2). Analysis of clinical and instrumental parameters in relation to FC revealed a linear relationship of RAP, CO, and PVR between the level of these parameters and FC; moreover, the highest correlation coefficients were observed for the hemodynamic parameters characterizing right ventricular systolic function. It is remarkable that no MPAP changes were found; only patients with FC IV showed its slight increase (from 51±8 to 55±8 mm Hg; р = 0.087). PAWP remained unchanged regardless of FC. Conclusion. Thus, the hemodynamic parameters determined in patients with PAH-SCTD during right heart and LA catheterization are closely related to the manifestations of respiratory and heart failure, the biomarkers, and FC of PAH

The discovery of Eifelian ammonoids in the Central Kyzylkum Desert (Aristantau Mountains, Uzbekistan)

© 2017, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. Eifelian ammonoids are described for the first time from the Central Kyzylkum Desert (Uzbekistan, Navoiy Region, Aristantau Mountains). The ammonoid assemblage includes the typical Eifelian genera Fidelites, Subanarcestes (a new species S. aristanensis Nikolaeva sp. nov. is described), and Cabrieroceras, found in association with brachiopods, conodonts, and dacryoconarids. The ammonoid assemblage is similar to that from the Choteč beds of Barrandien and their equivalents in the Urals, Salair, Germany, and Morocco (Subanarcestes macrocephalus Zone), suggesting a connection between the Eifelian Kyzylkum Basin, which was part of the Turkestan Paleoocean, and European, North African, Siberian, and Uralian basins. The ammonoids studied are not associated with black shale and apparently existed in normal marine environments
