Magnetic aspects of QCD at finite density and temperature
Some magnetic aspects of QCD are discussed at finite density and temperature.
Possibility of spontaneous magnetization is studied within Landau Fermi-liquid
theory, and the important roles of the screening effects for gluon propagation
are elucidated. Static screening for the longitudinal gluons improves the
infrared singularities, while the transverse gluons receive only dynamic
screening. The latter property gives rise to a novel non-Fermi-liquid behaviour
for the magnetic susceptibility. Appearance of a density-wave state is also
discussed in relation to chiral transition, where pseudoscalar condensate as
well as scalar one takes a spatially non-uniform form in a chirally invariant
way. Accordingly magnetization of quark matter oscillates like spin density
wave. A hadron-quark continuity is suggested in this aspect, remembering pion

Surveying User Activity as a Tool for Space Planning in an Academic Library
University libraries, and specifically the University of South Florida (USF) Library, are used for many different purposes that go beyond traditional library services. Activities users engage in while in the library should factor into decisions regarding the allocation of library space or expenditure of resources. The results of this survey illustrate how patrons are using the USF Library building on a daily basis. The anonymous, self-administered exit survey was administered for one week during two separate semesters. Users exiting the library building were given the opportunity to fill out a survey form. Data collected through this questionnaire, along with daily library gate counts, were analyzed to determine overall use patterns of the library facility and use patterns by specific groups of patrons (faculty, students, staff, and non-USF users). First report on detection of three Bunya-Like Viruses in apples in Brazil.
Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV), apple stem grooving virus (ASGV), and apple stem pitting virus (ASPV) cause significant losses to Brazilian (BR) apple production. Looking beyond these latent viruses, high-throughput sequencing (HTS) of three samples (Vacaria, Brazil) was performed on an Illumina HiSeq X Ten platform (USA), cv. Braeburn (BB), and a BGISEQ-500 platform (China), cvs. Royal Gala (RG) and Mishima (MI)
Ammonia sensing for enzymatic urea detection using organic field effect transistors and a semipermeable membrane
Organic Field Effect Transistors (OFETs) are used to measure ammonia in solution via ammonia diffusion into the OFET channel. An increase in ammonia concentrations results in a decrease in transistor currents. The regeneration of the OFET current after ammonia uptake is slow, which allows us to read out the maximum ammonia dose which was applied. A 100 nm parylene-C layer serves as a semipermeable top gate dielectric. The parylene layer is functionalized with the covalently attached enzyme urease. The enzyme catalyses the hydrolysis of urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide, i.e. urea can be detected via its hydrolysis product ammonia.
