Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Suspended Solids Concentrations in Tributaries to the Great Bay Estuary Watershed in 2010

Nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment loads to the Great Bay Estuary are a growing concern. The Piscataqua Region Estuaries Partnership (PREP) calculates the nitrogen load from tributaries to the Great Bay Estuary for its State of the Estuaries reports. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to collect representative data on nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediment concentrations in tributaries to the Great Bay Estuary in 2010. The study design followed the tributary sampling design which was implemented by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services between 2001 and 2007 and by the University of New Hampshire in 2008 and 2009, so as to provide comparable data to the previous loading estimates

Shellfish Tissue Monitoring in Piscataqua Region Estuaries 2010 and 2011

The goal of this project was to provide data for two PREP indicators of estuarine condition: TOX1 and TOX3. These two indicators report on “Shellfish tissue concentrations relative to FDA standards” and “Trends in shellfish tissue contaminant concentrations”, respectively. Both of these indicators depend on data from the Gulfwatch Program. In particular, TOX3 requires annual data at benchmark sites to assess trends. In 2010 and 2011, PREP supported the collection and analysis of tissue samples from benchmark mussel sites in Hampton-Seabrook Harbor and Dover Point

Terrestrial and Solar Limits on Long-Lived Particles in a Dark Sector

Dark matter charged under a new gauge sector, as motivated by recent data, suggests a rich GeV-scale "dark sector" weakly coupled to the Standard Model by gauge kinetic mixing. The new gauge bosons can decay to Standard Model leptons, but this mode is suppressed if decays into lighter dark sector particles are kinematically allowed. These particles in turn typically have macroscopic decay lifetimes that are constrained by two classes of experiments, which we discuss. Lifetimes of 10 cm < c tau < 10^8 cm are constrained by existing terrestrial beam-dump experiments. If, in addition, dark matter captured in the Sun (or Earth) annihilates into these particles, lifetimes up to 10^15 cm are constrained by solar observations. These bounds span fourteen orders of magnitude in lifetime, but they are not exhaustive. Accordingly, we identify promising new directions for experiments including searches for displaced di-muons in B-factories, studies at high-energy and -intensity proton beam dumps, precision gamma-ray and electronic measurements of the Sun, and milli-charge searches re-analyzed in this new context.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure

RG 10.19 St. Philip Neri School for Delayed Vocations Records, Finding Aid

All physical materials associated with the New England Province Archive are currently held by the Jesuit Archives in St. Louis, MO. Any inquiries about these materials should be directed to the Jesuit Archives . Electronic versions of some items and the descriptions and finding aids to the Archives, which are hosted in CrossWorks, are provided only as a courtesy. The St. Philip Neri School opened in September, 1946 in Boston and a second branch opened in Haverhill, MA in 1949. The school was opened as a school for delayed vocations to the priesthood after World War II. Its purpose was to teach Latin so the students could go on to seminaries, which required a foundation of Latin for acceptance. The Haverhill, MA school closed in 1964 and the Boston, MA school closed in 1969. The School closed due to a dwindling number of students because United States seminaries in the mid-1960s were no longer requiring knowledge of Latin for admission as the liturgy was being conducted in English. The collection consists of yearbooks, deeds & correspondence pertaining to the Haverhill, MA property, course catalogs, correspondence, and a written history of the school. The materials date from the 1940s to the 1960s

Curbside Pickup and Delivery Operations and Arterial Traffic Impacts

DOT-FH-11-9373This report presents an analysis of curbside pickups and deliveries (PUD) of freight in urban areas. Portions of six cities-San Francisco, Boston, St. Paul, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Phoenix-were studied as part of this effort. Data was collected on the characteristics of the PUD trip, the parking of the vehicle, the type and size of the generator and the impact that double parking has on arterial traffic performance. Analysis was conducted to develop tools to predict PUD demand, parking patterns and resultant traffic impact under families of conditions. These tools were used to test various traffic engineering strategies to improve arterial-traffic performance. Level of service was used as this performance measure. The final chapter recommends the most practical strategies for demonstration. These strategies include improved management of curbspace utilization, improved signing and striping, signal-timing adjustments and enforcement
