Modular architecture for high flexibility ATM based control system
This paper presents the architecture of an ATM Data Acquisition and Control System, which interconnects several remote acquisition units through a central processing unit, over bi-directional RF or wired transmission links. In addition, central units and clusters of remote units can be interconnected, over an ATM network, ISDN or LAN.(undefined
ATM interworking unit with ISDN and ethernet interfaces
The convergence of telecommunications and
computer communication technologies requires the development of Interworking Units to convert different data formats, protocols and control procedures. This paper describes the architecture of an electronic device, which is able to perform interworking functionalities between ATM, ISDN and Ethernet networks and presents several scenarios for interconnection environments
Performance simulation of HIPERLAN/2 with low debit traffic for real time data acquisition and control applications
Wireless local area networks can be suitable for remote interconnection of different data acquisition and control systems over a standardized telecommunications network, using several communication technologies, such as ISDN, ATM or IP. This paper presents an overview of the HIPERLAN/2 specifications as well as simulation results of this system, with channel errors and mixed traffic generated by control applications
Fast retransmission of real-time traffic in HIPERLAN/2 systems
Automatic repeat request (ARQ) schemes are effective to recover non-real-time data corrupted by channel errors, but their use with real-time traffic is seldom considered because packet retransmissions tend to increase the delay beyond the deadline. However, the high-speed of modern wireless local area networks, together with their inherent low propagation times, favors the use of ARQ schemes with real-time traffic. This paper proposes a fast retransmission scheduling mechanism for reliable transport of real-time traffic in HIPERLAN/2 systems, as well as an adaptive rate scheme designed to reduce the delay introduced by retransmissions while keeping the same level of network efficiency. The achieved performance is evaluated in the scenario of a distributed data acquisition and control system
Scheduling of real-time traffic in IEEE 802.11 networks
Real-time applications require the provision of time-bounded services from the network, however, the scheduling algorithms used in wired networks are not suitable for wireless networks because they assume that the channel is error free. Besides, the scheduler has only a limited knowledge of the arrival processes of the uplink traffic. In this paper, we propose scheduling algorithms for the transport of real-time traffic in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs which deal with channel errors. We also present the simulation results obtained with these algorithms
A Markovian model for ATM traffic generation
Many different traffic sources are transmitted simultaneously using the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) over the Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (B-ISDN).
Because of the ATM traffic statistical characteristics, the resource allocation in B-ISDN must be related to traffic parameters and the quality of service negotiated in the establishment of each call.
A model for ATM traffic characterisation and generation control of the calls and cells is proposed. Traffic parameters calculated analytically and by simulation are compared
A system architecture for low bit rate traffic aggregation in control applications
This paper describes the results of research work aimed at providing an efficient solution to the aggregation of low bit rate traffic in control applications. It includes the proposal and analysis of an architecture that integrates Terminal Adapters and a Concentrator connected to a remote Control Application through a communication network. The ATM technology was selected to implement the proposed system due to its properties of multiplexing efficiency and control of packet delay. Scheduling Algorithms for the Terminal Adapter and Concentrator have been developed in order to satisfy two main goals: to guarantee committed delays for time sensitive services, and to increase the network transmission efficiency. The results, obtained by simulation, show that the system performance complies with the requirements of the majority of control applications.Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
