    EVALUATION OF ANTIBIOTICS UTILIZATION ON PEDIATRIC OUTPATIENTS IN UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA HOSPITAL, MEDAN

    Objective: The aim of this study was to determine antibiotics prescribing profile for pediatric outpatients in Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Medan, Sumatera Utara (Indonesia) in 2018.Methods: This study was using a retrospective cross-sectional method study which conducted from March to April 2018 with data from January to December 2018. From Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, there are 211 prescriptions contained antibiotic that made as sample. The antibiotic analyzed based on the group, type, duration of administration, and dosage-drug form along with the dose.Results: The antibiotic that mostly prescribed for pediatric outpatients was antituberculosis for 211 prescriptions (72.99%) which is isoniazid. There are 15 prescriptions (7.11%) with mismatch the duration of use. From 211 prescriptions with complete data to assess the dose, there are 75 prescriptions (35.55%) with mismatch dose and the most dosage form is pulveres for 121 prescriptions (57.35%).Conclusion: It shows that isoniazid was the most prescribed antibiotic for pediatric outpatients in Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Medan, and there is still mismatch in dose and duration of use in antibiotic prescribing for pediatric

    The Development of Top 200 Prescribed Drugs in Community Pharmacies at Medan City as a Learning Tools

    Objective: The pharmacy student at clerk-ship level and pharmacists need the drug information literature contains information of prescribed drug that utilized in pharmaceutical practice daily in order to learn effectively. The aims of the study was to develop top 200 prescribed drugs in community pharmacies at Medan city as a learning tools for the pharmacy students at clerk-ship level and pharmacists.Methods: The study was a descriptive study that used a cross sectional survey methodology. The top 200 items of prescribed drugs obtained from the pharmacies selected regarding to random sampling method. The study was conducted from August to November 2016. The top 200 prescribed drugs lists was developed in to a draft of drug information book and a group of pharmacy students at clerk-ship level and pharmacists was asked to evaluate the book and gave suggestions using a set of  questionnaire.Results: The top 200 prescribed drugs list revealed that the five most prescribed drugs was amoxicilline (5.55 %), followed by dexamethasone (4.44%), mefenamic acid (3.73%), cetirizine (3.16%), and ciprofloxacine (2.97%). The result of a draft of drugs information book evaluation that was evaluated by 120 pharmacy students and pharmacists showed the drug information book draft was good and able to publish. The respondents mention some suggestion for the book i.e.  Image made more attractive and in various colors and the image adjusted with an indication of drug†(43.74%) and Using language that is easily understood and more detailed information†(16.85%).Conclusions: The study has developed top 200 prescribed drugs in community pharmacies at Medan city in to a validated drug information book as a learning tool. The drug information book very useful for a continuing professional development program for pharmacists and build the pharmacy student's confidence before they face the real patients at the community pharmacy practice setting.Key words: Prescribed drugs, drug information, learning tool

    ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIBING PROFILE FOR PEDIATRIC AT THE PHARMACY OF MEDAN CITY IN 2016

    Objective: The aim of this study was to determine antibiotics prescribing profile for pediatric in Medan, Sumatra Utara (Indonesia) in 2016.Methods: This study was using a retrospective cross-sectional method study which conducted from October to November 2016 with data from July to August 2016. From 93 pharmacies, there are 2195 prescribed for pediatric and 740 (33.71%) prescriptions contained antibiotic. The antibiotic analyzed based on the group, type, duration of administration, and dosage-drug form along with the dose.Results: The antibiotic that mostly prescribed for pediatric was penicillin (amoxicillin) 329 prescriptions (44.46%). The onset of antibiotic revealed that 581 prescriptions (78.51%) were valid. The dosage form that most prescribed was syrup 230 prescriptions (31.08%). From 278 prescriptions, it showed that 177 (61.67%) prescriptions within an appropriate dose.Conclusion: It shows that penicillin (amoxicillin) was the most prescribed antibiotic for pediatric in Medan and there are still in appropriate dose selections

    Masalah penggunaan obat tidak rasional merupakan masalah yang menjadi perhatian besaroleh Kementerian Kesehatan Indonesia. Pada masyarakat seringkali dijumpai berbagai masalahdalam penggunaan obat, misalnya penggunaan obat bebas secara tidak tepat dan kurangnyapemahaman tentang cara menggunakan, cara menyimpan dan membuang obat-obatan secara tidaktepat. Hal ini disebabkan masih kurangnya pemahaman masyarakat dan perilaku yang salah dalampenggunaan obat. Oleh karena itu, untuk meningkatkan pemahaman masyrakat dalam penggunaanobat perlu dilakukan edukasi kepada masyarakat mengenai pemilihan obat dan penggunaan obatyang rasional melalui pelatihan yang merupakan bagian dari Gerakan Masyarakat CerdasMenggunakan Obat (GeMaCerMat).Pelatihan GeMaCerMat ini menggunakan metode Cara Belajar Ibu Aktif (CBIA). Metode inisesuai digunakan untuk melakukan edukasi tentang penggunaan obat rasional terutama dalampenggunaan obat swamedikasi dan metode ini kami tawarkan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini.Hal inikarena sasaran dari pengabdian ini merupakan ibu rumah tangga yang mempunyai peranan pentinguntuk mengambil keputusan dalam penggunaan obat di keluarga. Metode CBIA ini dibagi dalam 3tahapan: kegiatan I dan II dilakukan dalam kelompok, dan kegiatan III dilakukan secara individualdi rumah dan dievaluasi dalam pertemuan berikutnya.Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini sangat membantu dan dapat memberikanmanfaat yang baik kepada masyarakat karena kegiatan ini dapat memberikan dampak yang cukupbesar terhadap kesehatan masyarakat. Kegiatan pengabdian ini terbukti mampu meningkatkanpersepsi dan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap penggunaan obat-obatan secara rasional terutamaobat-obatan yang diguna sebagai pengobatan swamedikasi.     Pemberdayaan Siswa Sebagai Apoteker Cilik Melalui Sosialisasi Gema Cermat di MIS Annur Prima

    Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan siswa sebagai apoteker cilik dalam hal edukasi mengenai profesi apoteker serta penggunaan obat yang baik dan benar. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan karena pada umumnya siswa sekolah dasar kurang mengenal profesi apoteker dan penggunaan obat yang tepat. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini adalah pengembangan metode  berbasis keaktifan siswa yang merupakan modifikasi dari Community Based Interactive Approach (CBIA). Kegiatan dilakukan dengan melakukan pre test, pemaparan materi, games, lomba mewarnai dan post test. Dari hasil rekapan pre test dan post test diketahui bahwa terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan dalam semua aspek yang ditanyakan yaitu peserta pernah mendengar kata “apoteker” meningkat 14%, peserta mengetahui fungsi dan peran apoteker meningkat 53%, peserta mengetahui beberapa sediaan obat meningkat 20%, peserta mengetahui sediaan obat yang digunakan secara oral meningkat 47%, peserta mengetahui informasi obat yang harus dibaca sebelum minum obat meningkat 25%, peserta mengetahui bahwa ketika sakit harus pergi ke dokter, kecuali untuk penyakit ringan bisa dengan swamedikasi meningkat 24 %, peserta mengetahui jika membeli obat di apotek atau toko obat berizin meningkat 46%, Peserta mengetahui tempat penyimpanan obat yang baik meningkat 30%, peserta mengetahui cara membuang obat yang tepat meningkat 26%. Kesimpulan dari kegiatan ini adalah edukasi Gema Cermat di sekolah dasar terbukti efektif tertuama dalam bidang kesehatan khususnya mengenai profesi apoteker dan penggunaan obat yang baik dan benar.Kata kunci: Apoteker cilik, obat, CBIA, Gema cerma

    Pattern of Prescribing NSAIDs Utilisation at Outpatient Pediatric Poly at Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital

    BACKGROUND: The wrong prescription pattern on NSAIDs also often results in side effects and drug interactions that cause serious and detrimental drug reactions. Drug use research is needed to describe the pattern of drug use, early signs of rational drug use, interventions to improve drug use, cycles of quality control, and continuous quality improvement. AIM: This study aimed to determine the prescribing pattern of NSAIDs at outpatient Pediatric Poly at Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Medan, Indonesia in 2017. METHODS: This descriptive retrospective study was conducted from October to November 2016 with data from July and August 2017. RESULT: The study showed, outpatient of pediatric poly at Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital in Medan there were 45,000 prescriptions, and 62 (0.15%) prescriptions contained NSAIDs. The most frequently prescribed NSAIDs 53 (85.48%) of prescriptions for outpatient pediatric poly was paracetamol. The most use of NSAIDs was consumed by a female in the age group of 3 years-12 years was 35 (58.06%). The highest frequency of NSAIDs utilisation was 7 days with 25 prescriptions (40.32%). There were 17 (27.42%) prescriptions with inappropriate dose, and the most widely prescribed dosage form was syrup for 34 (54.83%) prescriptions. The most duration of treatment with NSAIDs drugs which is paracetamol reached up to seven-days 25 (40.32%). The most frequently prescribed drugs 57 (91.93%) were generic drugs. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that there are still inappropriate doses and frequency of NSAIDs utilisation
