    Adaptation on the Key Areas of Competencies in Online Teaching Modality during the Wake of Covid-19 Pandemic

    The purpose of this study is to assess the online teaching preparedness of the faculty staff and evaluate their key areas of competencies to better prepare teaching faculty of Higher Education Institution (HEI) specifically in Santiago City, Isabela, Philippines for an effective online teaching modality. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was used in the study and analytical sample used was total enumeration which composed of 38 respondents from different HEI of Santiago City. Data were collected using the Faculty-Self Assessment: Preparing for Online Teaching adapted in Penn State University with total of 30 items and divided in three categories of competencies. The result found that teaching faculty was successfully done in all the key areas of competencies in online teaching (M=2.38, SD= 0.65). The findings revealed there is a significant difference in age but no significant difference on gender and educational attainment based on the level of preparedness in teaching using the online modality

    Abstrak — Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi di bidang komputer saat ini, baik dalam perangkat keras (hardware) maupun perangkat lunak (software), hampir sebagian besar pekerjaan manusia kini diselesaikan dengan komputer. Dengan demikian, komputer dapat dikatakan sebagai salah satu alat bantu manusia dalam menyelesaikan suatu pekerjaan. Pemakaian komputer sering digunakan untuk hal-hal yang berkenaan dengan pemrosesan data (data processing) dan pengolahan kata (word processing). Salah satu alasan, mengapa komputer cenderung digunakan sebagai alat bantu dalam menyelesaikan suatu pekerjaan karena pekerjaan yang dilakukan menggunakan komputer memiliki kecepatan proses yang lebih dapat diandalkan. Kemajuan teknologi komputer dimanfaatkan oleh berbagai kalangan seperti Pemerintahan, Organisasi-organisasi sosial, Militer, Bank, pendidikan, transportasi, perdagangan, kriminalitas, industri, dan lain sebagainya. Dengan demikian, bisa dikatakan bahwa hampir seluruh lapisan masyarakat memerlukan komputer sebagai alat bantu dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Berdasarkan masalah diatas maka dibutuhkan suatu sistem untuk mempermudah pekerjaan-pekerjaan yang dalam kesehariannya dilakukan dengan Microsoft Word dan Excel.     ASTRI SST-2M prototype and mini-array simulation chain, data reduction software, and archive in the framework of the Cherenkov Telescope Array

    The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is a worldwide project aimed at building the next-generation ground-based gamma-ray observatory. Within the CTA project, the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) is developing an end-to-end prototype of the CTA Small-Size Telescopes with a dual-mirror (SST-2M) Schwarzschild-Couder configuration. The prototype, named ASTRI SST-2M, is located at the INAF "M.C. Fracastoro" observing station in Serra La Nave (Mt. Etna, Sicily) and is currently in the scientific and performance validation phase. A mini-array of (at least) nine ASTRI telescopes has been then proposed to be deployed at the Southern CTA site, by means of a collaborative effort carried out by institutes from Italy, Brazil, and South-Africa. The CTA/ASTRI team is developing an end-to-end software package for the reduction of the raw data acquired with both ASTRI SST-2M prototype and mini-array, with the aim of actively contributing to the global ongoing activities for the official data handling system of the CTA observatory. The group is also undertaking a massive Monte Carlo simulation data production using the detector Monte Carlo software adopted by the CTA consortium. Simulated data are being used to validate the simulation chain and evaluate the ASTRI SST-2M prototype and mini-array performance. Both activities are also carried out in the framework of the European H2020-ASTERICS (Astronomy ESFRI and Research Infrastructure Cluster) project. A data archiving system, for both ASTRI SST-2M prototype and mini-array, has been also developed by the CTA/ASTRI team, as a testbed for the scientific archive of CTA. [email protected] Abstract We present two families, from Spain and Portugal, with familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP) associated with the mutation TTRSer50Arg. This mutation was first described in two Japanese patients from independent families and later in a French-Italian patient and a Vietnamese family. The two families presented here, are the first to be diagnosed with this mutation in the Iberian Peninsula. In the patients of both families, FAP was very aggressive as they rapidly developed multiple symptoms with progressive deterioration; we emphasize the presence of severe orthostatic hypotension in the Spanish proband which confined him to a wheelchair. This proband was the first patient with this mutation to have undergone liver transplantation and results were encouraging. The mutation was detected in four patients and one disease-free relative by DNA sequencing of exon 3 and induced mutation restriction analysis. The most outstanding feature was the single base transversion A to C in codon 50 (CGT instead of AGT), whereas in both Japanese patients and the French-Italian patient it was T to G (AGG instead of AGT). To our knowledge only six FAP mutations with more than one single nucleotide mutation for the same codon have been reported to date. PMID: 17577688 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE

Abstract Twin studies are an important tool in medical genetics for the evaluation of the relative roles of genetic and non-genetic factors in several diseases. Familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy type I (FAP-I), TTR Met 30, was present in two sets of proven monozygotic (MZ) twins, one from Majorca and the other from Portugal. Monozygosity was established by analysis of DNA polymorphisms. Both pairs were discordant for age at onset and some clinical manifestations of FAP-I. We reviewed the differences in age at onset and clinical features in both sets and in two other pairs of presumed MZ twins with FAP-I and compared them with those in MZ twin pairs with other Mendelian disorders, such as neurofibromatosis type 1, Huntington's disease, facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, and myotonic dystrophy. We conclude that, in addition to the postulated modifying genes, there must be a significant contribution from non-genetic factors to the phenotypic variability of FAP-I (age at onset and clinical expression), either because of environmental differences or stochastic events during (or after) the twinning process. Posiblemente, esto se deba a que ésta enfermedad destruye niños y adolescentes, o a que su curso es inexorable, lento y devastador progresando siempre hacia la muerte. Su peculiar distribución geográfica la hizo una interesante área de estudio aunque jamás proporcionó clave etiológica o patogénica alguna, pero como resultado de todo lo anterior, científicos de varios países contribuyeron a facilitar el conocimiento de esta enfermeda

    Morfogènesi i dinàmica de la platja des Codolar (Eivissa, Illes Balears)

    S'ha analitzat la textura dels còdols de la platja des Codolar, Eivissa, a partir del mostreig de quatre seccions de la platja. A cada secció s’han pres mostres de la berma superior i de la inferior, totalitzant el mesurament de 400 còdols. S'han analitzat la distribució dels còdols, la seva mida i la seva classificació. La forma dels còdols s’ha parametritzat a partir del diagrama de Zingg, l'índex d’Arrodoniment de Wadell, la màxima projecció de Esfericitat i l'índex Oblat-Prolat. El resultat mostra una clara gradació de sud-est a nord-oest tant en la grandària com en el arrodoniment i la esfericitat dels còdols. Això en indica clarament que la seva font d'alimentació són els despreniments del cap Falcó, i que el seu transport es produeix per deriva litoral envers el nord-oest. El resultat és la formació d'una barra litoral que fins i tot presenta formes atribuïbles a ventalls d’overwash, que juntament amb ventalls al·luvials delimiten una zona humida, que a l'actualitat ocupen les Salines d'Eivissa.The texture of the Es Codolar gravel beach, South of Ibiza, was analyzed from samples in four sections of the beach. In each section two samples have been taken: one from the upper berm and another from the lower one. A total of 400 pebbles and cobbles were measured. The distribution of shingles, their grain size and sorting have been analyzed. Shingle shape has been parameterized trough the Zingg diagram, the Wadell roundness index, the maximum projection of sphericity and the Oblate-Prolate Index. The results show a clear gradient both in grain size, roundness and the shingles sphericity from Southeast to Northwest. This clearly indicates that the source of sediment supply are located at Cap Falcó detachments, Transport is produced by long shore drift towards the Northwest and he result is the formation of a shingle barrier that closes a wetland that nowadays currently occupy by the Salinas of Ibiza
