Omental well-differentiated liposarcoma: US, CT and MR findings
Liposarcomas are the most common of sarcoma tumours, they are usually located in the lower limbs, retroperitoneum,
or abdominal cavity; up to date, only a few cases of omental liposarcoma with different histotype have been described. We present a case of omental well-differentiated liposarcoma and discuss imaging findings on ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance to differentiate omental liposarcomas from other abdominal tumour entities
The quest for natural SUSY: ATLAS searches
This document presents the status of the searches for supersymmetric particles with √ the ATLAS detector at LHC, in proton proton collisions at √s = 8TeV in the context of natural Supersymmetry. This covers an extensive list of scenarios including the production of third generation squarks (both direct and gluino mediated), charginos and neutralinos. No deviation from the background expectations has been observed in data and it has been possible to put stringent limits on the masses of gluinos, third-generation squarks and light gauginos in a wide range of models
ATLAS Supersymmetry searches
Supersymmetry with large mixing angle predicts that the lightest superpartners of the Standard Model fermions belong to the third generation. Furthermore, naturalness arguments favor masses not too far from the top quark mass.
This document presents the status of the searches for supersymmetric particles with the ATLAS detector at LHC, in proton-proton collisions at √s = 7TeV. It has been possible to put stringent limits on many supersymmetric particle masses and extend the search for scalar partners of the third generation, both in direct and gluino mediated production
Transitions into institutional adulthood
Key findings • With adequate care and support, migrant young people can make highly successful transitions at 18. • Many unaccompanied migrant young people face specific difficulties when transitioning to adulthood (compared to non-migrant young people in local authority care). • The quality of local authority social care support for young people turning 18, and at later transitions, varies widely within and between local authorities. • Some young people choose to disengage from statutory services at 18 because they fear detention and forced removal. • For young people who have exhausted their appeal rights, transition to adulthood can mean having to survive by relying on social networks and the informal economy. • Transition to adulthood for young people who disengage from services is often characterised by homelessness, destitution and poor mental and physical health
The INGV tectonomagnetic network: 2004?2005 preliminary dataset analysis
International audienceIt is well established that earthquakes and volcanic eruption can produce small variations in the local geomagnetic field. The Italian Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) tectonomagnetic network was installed in Central Italy since 1989 to investigate possible effects on the local geomagnetic field related to earthquakes occurrences. At the present time, total geomagnetic field intensity data are collected in four stations using proton precession magnetometers. We report the complete dataset for the period of years 2004?2005. The data of each station are differentiated respect to the data of the other stations in order to detect local field anomalies removing the contributions from the other sources, external and internal to the Earth. Unfortunately, no correlation between geomagnetic anomalies and the local seismic activity, recorded in Central Italy by the INGV Italian Seismic National Network, was found in this period. Some deceptive structures present in the differentiated data are pointed out
Symbolic and non-symbolic predictors of number line task in Italian kindergarteners
The number line estimation task (NLE) is often used as a predictor for broader measures of mathematical achievement. In spite of its popularity, it is still not clear whether the task is based on symbolic or non-symbolic numerical competence. In particular, there is only a very limited amount of studies investigating the relationship between NLE performance and symbolic vs. non-symbolic math skills in children who have not yet begun formal schooling. This study investigates the strength of the association between NLE performance and symbolic and non-symbolic tasks in young kindergarteners. Ninety two 5-year-old children completed the NLE task (range 0-100) and a battery of early numerical competence tests including symbolic-lexical tasks, symbolic semantic tasks, and non-symbolic semantic tasks. The relationship between symbolic and non-symbolic early numerical competence and NLE performance was analyzed using a regression model based on the Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC). Results show that only symbolic semantic tasks are significant predictors of NLE performance. These results suggest that symbolic numerical knowledge is involved in number line processing among young children, whilst non-symbolic knowledge is not. This finding brings new data to the debate on the relationship between non-symbolic numeral knowledge and symbolic number processing and supports the evidence of a primary role of symbolic number processing already in young kindergarteners
Walking a Tightrope: Unaccompanied migrant young people, transitions and futures
With the collaboration of Praxis Community Projects and Shpresa Programme, a series of photography workshops were conducted with young people from different backgrounds who have gone through similar experiences of migration. Many of these people came to the UK on their own as children, without their family. Their images narrate the difficult and continuous journey they make, and the life changing transitions that this journey entailed. It is a journey without a clear point of departure or arrival - or a clear sense of direction – but which brings multiple transformations and transitions along the way. People have to negotiate completely different cultural, social and political environments and, most importantly, the constraints of an exclusionary asylum system that has profound effects on their everyday lives. These young people often live with the terrifying uncertainty of not knowing what will happen to them or whether they will be returned to the country from which they have fled
Perceived importance of facilitators to cycling: the case of a starter cycling city in Italy
The goal of this study is to understand and explore how facilitators to cycling are perceived by different segments of individuals, in view of assessing how to best promote the use of the bicycle in urban areas bicycle-unfriendly. The data for this study is drawn from a survey conducted in the metropolitan area of Cagliari, a starter cycling city in Italy, in 2014-2016 among a sample of local employees. The sample comprises 1,481 observations. All participants were asked to rate, by means of a 5-point Likert Scale, the importance of eight different specified factors that would encourage them to start cycling or to cycle more often. These factors, which are the dependent variables of our study, are modelled jointly using a multivariate ordered probit framework. Our results clearly indicates that how people perceive the implementation of policy measures aimed to encourage more frequent cycling depends on their socio-demographic characteristics. Hence, a holistic approach with a variety of activities is needed, as improvements in cycling infrastructure may not be enough

Is contrast-enhanced US alternative to spiral CT in the assessment of treatment outcome of radiofrequency ablation in hepatocellular carcinoma?
Purpose: The present study was conducted to assess the efficacy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound with low mechanical index in evaluating the response of percutaneous radiofrequency ablation treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma by comparing it with 4-row spiral computed tomography. Materials and Methods: 100 consecutive patients (65 men and 35 women; age range: 62 – 76 years) with solitary hepatocellular carcinomas (mean lesion diameter: 3.7cm± 1.1cm SD) underwent internally cooled radiofrequency ablation. Therapeutic response was evaluated at one month after the treatment with triple-phasic contrast-enhanced spiral CT and low-mechanical index contrast-enhanced ultrasound following bolus injection of 2.4 ml of Sonovue (Bracco, Milan). 60 out of 100 patients were followed up for another 3 months. Contrast-enhanced sonographic studies were reviewed by two blinded radiologists in consensus. Sensitivity, specificity, NPV and PPV of contrast-enhanced ultrasound examination were determined. Results: After treatment, contrast-enhanced ultrasound identified persistent signal enhancement in 24 patients (24%), whereas no intratumoral enhancement was detected in the remaining 76 patients (76%). Using CT imaging as gold standard, the sensitivity, specificity, NPV, and PPV of contrast enhanced ultrasound were 92.3% (95% CI = 75.9 – 97.9%), 100% (95% CI = 95.2 – 100%), 97.4% (95% CI = 91.1 – 99.3%), and 100% (95% CI = 86.2 – 100%). Conclusion: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound with low mechanical index using Sonovue is a feasible tool in evaluating the response of hepatocellular carcinoma to radiofrequency ablation. Accuracy is comparable to 4-row spiral CT
