Procedures of vegetative propagation of asparagus were studied using lateral bud culture. Lateral buds excised from a spear were placed on the Murashige and Skoog's medium, the basic medium used in this study, with or without NAA. Shoots that were grown on this medium were used for further vegetative propagation. Mature buds on the proximal part of the shoot were placed on the basic medium and good shoot growth resulted. Apical and young buds on the distal part of shoots were planted on the basic medium containing NAA and kinetin. Shoot and root growth resulted. Plantlets with shoots and roots were transplanted to the basic medium in 500 ml flasks and grew to transplantable size. A comparison of 1, 20 and 50 bud densities/50 ml of medium indicated that there was a growth-promoting diffusing-substance evident by the marked improvement of shoot and root growth at the highest bud density. It was determined that this growth promoting effect was not caused by NAA. Effects of seven different plant growth regulators on sex modification of cucumber were studied by using aseptic culture on the media. Apexes of monoecious type of cucumber at early embryonic stage were explanted throughout the experiments, and cultured under conditions which would have been potentially expected to be male flower. After 90 days culture, sexes of flowers formed on each node were observed either visually or microscopically. Cytokinins, such as kinetin (K), N5-benzyladenine (BA), 6-benzylamino-9-(2-tetrahydropyranyl)-9H-purine (SD 8339) promoted pistillate organ development which lead to pistillate flower. Addition of mixture with NA!A increased the female tendency. Effect of gibberellic acid (GA3) was found to promote male tendency, and increased tendency was found by adding it with abscisic acid (ABA) in the same concentrations. Abscisic acid affected differently on sex modification depending on their concentrations. Ethrel was the most effective substance for femaleness, but the effect was suppressed by the presence of ABA in the same concentration

Morphological Characters and Yields of Regenerated Plants from Callus Cultured for Long Period in Taro
Characters of plants regenerated from calli cultured for long period in taro (Colocasia esculenta Schott cv. Eguimo) were studied. Calli were obtained by culturing etiolated stem segments on Murashige and Skoog's (MS) medium supplemented with 30 gliter-1 sucrose, 2 meliter-1 NAA and 2 meliter-1 2 ip. They were proliferated by subculturing on the same fresh medium for 10 or 15 months from initial planting. Plants regenerated after transferring them to hormone-free MS mediium. The yield of corms from plants regenerated from callus was lower than those of original 'Eguimo' (control). Leaf blade of plants regenerated from callus for 15 months (C-15) was more round than that of control plants.
