Metallicity estimates of young clusters in the Magellanic Clouds from Strömgren photometry of supergiant stars
We present results obtained from Stromgren photometry of 13 young (~ 30-220 Myr) Magellanic Cloud (MC) clusters, most of them lacking in the literature from direct metallicity measurements. We derived for them [Fe/H] values from a high-dispersion spectroscopy-based empirical calibration of the Stromgren metallicity sensitive index m1 for yellow and red supergiants (SGs). Particular care was given while estimating their respective uncertainties. In order toobtain the mean cluster metallicities, we used [Fe/H] values of selected SGs for which we required to be located within the cluster radii, placed in the expected SG region in the clustercolour-magnitude diagrams, and with [Fe/H] values within the FWHM of the observed cluster metallicitydistributions. The resulting metallicities for nearly 75 per cent of the cluster sample agree well with the most frequently used values of the mean MCs´ present-day metallicities. The remaining clusters have mean [Fe/H] values that fall near the edge of the MC present-daymetallicity distributions. When comparing the cluster metallicities with their present positions, we found evidence that supports the claimed recent interaction of the MCs with the Milky Way, that could have caused that some clusters were scattered from their birthplaces. Indeed, we show examples of clusters with metal contents typical of the galaxy innerregions placed outward them. Like wise, we found young clusters, at present located in the inner regions of both MCs, formed out of gas that has remained unmixed since several Gyr ago.Fil: Piatti, Andres Eduardo. WYBRANE ZAGADNIENIA EDUKACJI ZDROWOTNEJ W REALIZACJI NORDIC WALKING W OKRESIE PANDEMII
Nordic Walking łączy w sobie cechy idealnej aktywności ruchowej dla wszystkich bez względu na wiek, masę ciała i wyjściowy poziom sprawności fizycznej, budując sprawność sercowo- naczyniową, angażując i wzmacniając niemal wszystkie mięśnie, pożerając efektywnie kalorie, odciążając stawy i rozluźniając napięcia mięśniowe. Niniejsza praca stanowi odniesienie jej uprawiania do czasu epidemii ogólnoświatowej
Niechęć do lekcji wychowania fizycznego narasta wraz z wiekiem młodzieży szkolnej.
Neurofeedback training for peak performance
Aim. One of the applications of the Neurofeedback methodology is peak performance in sport. The protocols of the
neurofeedback are usually based on an assessment of the spectral parameters of spontaneous EEG in resting state conditions.
The aim of the paper was to study whether the intensive neurofeedback training of a well-functioning Olympic athlete
who has lost his performance confidence after injury in sport, could change the brain functioning reflected in changes in
spontaneous EEG and event related potentials (ERPs).
Case study. The case is presented of an Olympic athlete who has lost his performance confidence after injury in sport. He
wanted to resume his activities by means of neurofeedback training. His QEEG/ERP parameters were assessed before and
after 4 intensive sessions of neurotherapy. Dramatic and statistically significant changes that could not be explained by
error measurement were observed in the patient.
Conclusion. Neurofeedback training in the subject under study increased the amplitude of the monitoring component of
ERPs generated in the anterior cingulate cortex, accompanied by an increase in beta activity over the medial prefrontal cortex.
Taking these changes together, it can be concluded that that even a few sessions of neurofeedback in a high performance
brain can significantly activate the prefrontal cortical areas associated with increasing confidence in sport performance
Period-Luminosity Relations for Galactic classical Cepheids in the Sloan bands
We present the first period-luminosity (PL) and period-Wesenheit (PW)
relations in the Sloan-Pans-STARRS gP1rP1iP1 bands for classical fundamental
mode Cepheids in the Milky Way. We used a relatively modest number of 76 stars
for the PL and 84-85 stars for the PW relations calibration. The data for the
project were collected with the network of 40-cm telescopes of Las Cumbres
Observatory, and Gaia Data Release 3 parallaxes were used for the calculations.
These gri-band PL and PW relations calibrations will be a useful tool for
distance determinations in the era of large sky surveys using the Sloan
photometric system, especially with the near-future start of the Large Synoptic
Survey of Space and Time (LSST).Comment: 31 pages, 7 figures, 3 tables, Accepted for publication in Ap
