High pressure evolution of FeO electronic structure revealed by X-ray absorption
We report the first high pressure measurement of the Fe K-edge in hematite
(FeO) by X-ray absorption spectroscopy in partial fluorescence yield
geometry. The pressure-induced evolution of the electronic structure as
FeO transforms from a high-spin insulator to a low-spin metal is
reflected in the x-ray absorption pre-edge. The crystal field splitting energy
was found to increase monotonically with pressure up to 48 GPa, above which a
series of phase transitions occur. Atomic multiplet, cluster diagonalization,
and density-functional calculations were performed to simulate the pre-edge
absorption spectra, showing good qualitative agreement with the measurements.
The mechanism for the pressure-induced phase transitions of FeO is
discussed and it is shown that ligand hybridization significantly reduces the

Planar Sub-Millimeter-Wave Array Antenna with Enhanced Gain and Reduced Sidelobes for 5G Broadcast Applications
In this paper, a compact, broadband, planar array
antenna with omnidirectional radiation in horizontal plane is
proposed for the 26 GHz fifth-generation (5G) broadcast
applications. The antenna element is composed of two dipoles and
a substrate integrated cavity (SIC) as the power splitter. The two
dipoles are placed side-by-side at both sides of the SIC and they
are compensated with each other to form an omni-directional
pattern in horizontal plane. By properly combing the resonant
frequencies of the dipoles and the SIC, a wide impedance
bandwidth from 24 to 29.5 GHz is achieved. To realize a large
array while reducing the complexity, loss and size of the feeding
network, a novel dual-port structure combined with radiation and
power splitting functions is proposed for the 1st time. The
amplitude and phase on each element of the array can be tuned,
and therefore, the grating lobes level can be significantly reduced.
Based on the dual-port structure, an 8-element array with an
enhanced gain of over 12 dBi is designed and prototyped. The
proposed antenna also features low profile, low weight and low
cost, which is desirable for 5G commercial applications. Measured
results agree well with the simulations, showing that the proposed
high-gain array antenna has a broad bandwidth, omni-directional
pattern in horizontal plane, and low side-lobes
Longitudinal Schottky spectra of a bunched Ne10+ ion beam at the CSRe
The longitudinal Schottky spectra of a radio-frequency (RF) bunched and
electron cooled 22Ne10+ ion beam at 70 MeV/u have been studied by a newly
installed resonant Schottky pick-up at the experimental cooler storage ring
(CSRe), at IMP. For an RF-bunched ion beam, a longitudinal momentum spread of
has been reached with less than 107 stored ions. The reduction of momentum
spread compared with coasting ion beam was observed from Schottky noise signal
of the bunched ion beam. In order to prepare the future laser cooling
experiment at the CSRe, the RF-bunching power was modulated at 25th, 50th and
75th harmonic of the revolution frequency, effective bunching amplitudes were
extracted from the Schottky spectrum analysis. Applications of Schottky noise
for measuring beam lifetime with ultra-low intensity of ion beams are
presented, and it is relevant to upcoming experiments on laser cooling of
relativistic heavy ion beams and nuclear physics at the CSRe.Comment: to be published in Chinese Physics
The HIF/PHF8/AR axis promotes prostate cancer progression.
Recent studies provide strong evidence that the androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway remains active in castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). However, the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. In this study, we demonstrate that plant homeo domain finger protein 8 (PHF8 )interacts with and functions as an essential histone demethylase activity-dependent AR coactivator. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the expression of PHF8 is induced by hypoxia in various prostate cancer cell lines. Knockdown of either hypoxia-inducible factor HIF2α or HIF1α almost completely abolished hypoxia-induced PHF8 expression. Importantly, we observed that PHF8 is highly expressed in clinical androgen deprived prostate cancer samples and expression of PHF8 correlates with increased levels of HIF1α and HIF2α. Moreover, elevated PHF8 is associated with higher grade prostate cancers and unfavorable outcomes. Our findings support a working model in which hypoxia in castrated prostate cancer activates HIF transcription factors which then induces PHF8 expression. The elevated PHF8 in turn promotes the AR signaling pathway and prostate cancer progression. Therefore, the HIF/PHF8/AR axis could serve as a potential biomarker for CRPC and is also a promising therapeutic target in combating CRPC
Recommendation for a contouring method and atlas of organs at risk in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients receiving intensity-modulated radiotherapy
Background and purpose To recommend contouring methods and atlas of organs at risk (OARs) for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients receiving intensity-modulated radiotherapy, in order to help reach a consensus on interpretations of OARs delineation. Methods and materials Two to four contouring methods for the middle ear, inner ear, temporal lobe, parotid gland and spinal cord were identified via systematic literature review; their volumes and dosimetric parameters were compared in 41 patients. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves for temporal lobe contouring were compared in 21 patients with unilateral temporal lobe necrosis (TLN). Results Various contouring methods for the temporal lobe, middle ear, inner ear, parotid gland and spinal cord lead to different volumes and dosimetric parameters (P < 0.05). For TLN, D1 of PRV was the most relevant dosimetric parameter and 64 Gy was the critical point. We suggest contouring for the temporal lobe, middle ear, inner ear, parotid gland and spinal cord. A CT-MRI fusion atlas comprising 33 OARs was developed. Conclusions Different dosimetric parameters may hinder the dosimetric research. The present recommendation and atlas, may help reach a consensus on subjective interpretation of OARs delineation to reduce inter-institutional differences in NPC patients. © 2013 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. An Updated Search of Steady TeV Ray Point Sources in Northern Hemisphere Using the Tibet Air Shower Array
Using the data taken from Tibet II High Density (HD) Array (1997
February-1999 September) and Tibet-III array (1999 November-2005 November), our
previous northern sky survey for TeV ray point sources has now been
updated by a factor of 2.8 improved statistics. From to
in declination (Dec) range, no new TeV ray point
sources with sufficiently high significance were identified while the
well-known Crab Nebula and Mrk421 remain to be the brightest TeV ray
sources within the field of view of the Tibet air shower array. Based on the
currently available data and at the 90% confidence level (C.L.), the flux upper
limits for different power law index assumption are re-derived, which are
approximately improved by 1.7 times as compared with our previous reported

Revealing the pseudogap in by optical spectroscopy
We report resistivity, magnetization, and optical spectroscopy study on single-crystal sample of Sr3(Ru0.985Fe0.015 )2O7. An upturn is observed in resistivity at about 30 K. Below 30 K, the dip in resistivity R(ω), the suppression in scattering rate 1/τ (ω), the peaklike feature in optical conductivity σ1(ω), and the remainder of spectral weight all suggest the formation of a pseudogap. In addition, one phonon peak at about 600 cm−1 is distinguished at all temperatures, which has asymmetric line shape. Such asymmetric line shape can be fit by a Fano function, and the resulting Fano factor 1/q2 and linewidth γ show significant increases below 30 K, giving further evidence for the formation of a pseudogap, which might originate from the partial k-space gap opening due to density wave instability
