    The results of the measurements of point discharge current observations at Pune, India, during years 1987 and 1988 are presented by categorizing and studying their number of spells, polar current average durations, and current magnitudes in day-time and night-time conditions. While the results showed that the thunderstorm activity occupies far more day-time than the night-time the level of current magnitudes remains nearly the same in the two categories

    Evaluation of electrode-semiconductor barrier in transparent top-contact polymer field effect

    Interfacial barriers at the metal- semiconductor junction manifest in the form of sizable contact resistance in polymer field effect transistors (PFETs). We study the barrier using optical excitation directed specifically beneath the electrodes in the top- contact PFETs without optically perturbing the channel. Differences in the transconductance responses with the light localized at the source and the drain electrode region provides a considerable insight into the injection barriers

It examines the maturity patterns of both assets and liabilities under different time buckets and analyses the implication of different mismatches.It also throws on the impact of an overall gap on bank's profitability and liquidity and elaborates on various categories of risk that require to be managed. The data had been collected from the secondary sources such as annual reports of Canara Bank, reports and websites etc. It has been found in the study that proper liability mix technique is a successful tool for minimizing the risk

    Dynamical Polarizabilities of SU(3) Octet of Baryons

    We present calculations and an analysis of the spin-independent dipole electric and magnetic dynamical polarizabilities for the lowest in mass SU(3) octet of baryons. These extensive calculations are made possible by the recent implementation of semi-automatized calculations in Chiral Perturbation Theory which allows evaluating dynamical spin-independent electromagnetic polarizabilities from Compton scattering up to next-to-the-leading order. Our results are in good agreement with calculations performed for nucleons found in the literature. The dependencies for the range of photon energies up to 1 GeV, covering the majority of the meson photo production channels, are analyzed. The separate contributions into polarizabilities from the various baryon meson clouds are studied.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, extended analysis of hyperon polarizabilitie

    Axial Anomaly and Transition Form Factors

    We investigate the properties of the amplitude induced by the anomaly. In a relatively high energy region those amplitudes are constructed by the vector meson poles and the anomaly terms, in which the anomaly terms can be essentially evaluated by the triangle quark graph. We pay our attention to the anomaly term and make intensive analysis of the existing experimental data, i.e., the electromagnetic π0\pi^0 and ω\omega transition form factors.     Exotic mesons with double charm and bottom flavor

    We study exotic mesons with double charm and bottom flavor, whose quark configuration is \bar{Q}\bar{Q}qq. This quark configuration has no annihilation process of quark and antiquark, and hence is a genuinely exotic states. We take a hadronic picture by considering the molecular states composed of a pair of heavy mesons, such as DD, DD* and D*D* for charm flavor, and BB, BB* and B*B* for bottom flavor. The interactions between heavy mesons are derived from the heavy quark effective theory. All molecular states are classified by I(J^P) quantum numbers, and are systematically studied up to the total angular momentum J \leq 2. By solving the coupled channel Schrodinger equations, due to the strong tensor force of one pion exchanging, we find bound and/or resonant states of various quantum numbers.Comment: 24 pages, 3 figure

    The Wess-Zumino term is constructed for supersymmetric QCD with two colors and flavors, and is shown to correctly reproduce the anomalous Ward identities. Supersymmetric QCD is also shown not to have topologically stable skyrmion solutions because of baryon flat directions, which allow them to unwind.     Purification, physicochemical and regulatory properties of serine hydroxymethyltransferase from sheep liver

    Serine hydroxymethyltransferase (EC 2.1.2.1) was purified from the cytosolic fraction of sheep liver by ammonium sulphate fractionation, CM-Sephadex chromatography, gel filtration using Ultrogel ACA 34 and Blue Sepharose affinity chromatography. The homogeneity of the enzyme was rigorously established by Polyacrylamide gel and sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, isoelectrofocusing, ultracentrifugation, immunodiffusion and Immunoelectrophoresis. The enzyme was a homotetramer with a molecular weight of 210,000 ± 5000. The enzyme showed homotropic cooperative interactions with tetrahydrofolate (nH = 2.8) and a hyperbolic saturation pattern with L-serine. At the lowest concentration of tetrahydrofolate used (0.2 mM), only 5% of the added folate was oxidized during preincubation and assay. ThenH value was independent of the time of preincubation. Preincubation of the enzyme with serine resulted in a partial loss of the cooperative interactions (nH =1.6) with tetrahydrofolate. The enzyme was regulated allosterically by interaction with nicotinamide nucleotides; NADH was a positive effector while NAD+ was a negative allosteric effector. The subunit interactions were retained even at the temperature optimum of 60‡C unlike in the case of the monkey liver enzyme, where these interactions were absent at higher temperatures. D-Cycloserine, a structural analogue of serine caused a sigmoid pattern of inhibition, in contrast with the observations on the monkey liver enzyme. Cibacron blue F3GA completely inhibited the enzyme and this inhibition could be reversed by tetrahydrofolate. Unlike in the monkey liver enzyme, NAD+ and NADH gave considerable protection against this inhibition. The sheep liver enzyme differs significantly in its kinetic and regulatory properties from the serine hydroxymethyltransferases isolated from other sources

    Two-dimensional spatiotemporal monitoring of temperature in photothermal therapy using hybrid photoacoustic-ultrasound transmission tomography

    Recently, we presented an add-on to a photoacoustic (PA) computed tomography imager that permits the simultaneous imaging of ultrasound (US) transmission parameters such as the speed of sound (SOS), without additional measurements or instruments. This method uses strong absorbers positioned outside the object in the path of light for producing laser-induced US to interrogate the object in a conventional PA imager. Here, we investigate the feasibility of using this approach, first with PA to pin-point the location of photothermal therapeutic agents and then with serial SOS tomograms to image and monitor the resulting local temperature changes when the agents are excited with continuous wave (CW) light. As the object we used an agar-based tissue-mimicking cylinder carrying beads embedded with different concentrations of gold nanospheres. PA and SOS tomograms were simultaneously acquired as the gold nanospheres were photothermally heated using a 532-nm CW laser. In a first approximation, using the relation between SOS of water and temperature, the SOS tomograms were converted into temperature maps. The experimental results were verified using simulations: Monte Carlo modeling of light propagation through a turbid medium and using the obtained absorbed energy densities in heat diffusion modeling for spatial temperature distributio

    Control of single-wall-nanotube field-effect transistors via indirect long-range optically induced processes

    We observe significant changes in the response of single-wall-carbon-nanotube-based field-effect transistors upon photoexcitation in the presence of optically active conjugated polymer network. The primary features observed are in the form of an increase in the current in the depletion mode upon photoexcitation. Pulsed measurements indicate that the transistor enters the depleted state prior to the rise in current brought about by the transfer of the photogenerated carriers from the semiconducting polymer to the nanotube under depletion bias
