The unilateral radical mastectomy may result in disturbance of statics and body balance. Disturbances in body coordination may be associated with unevenly distributed tension of postural muscles between left and right side. Aim of the research: Evaluation of equivalent reactions in women after mastectomy on the basis of posturographic examination. Material and methods: 40 women were provided with the study, including 16 female patients (40%) after right-sided mastectomy and 24 female patients (60%) after left-sided treatment. The average age of respondents was 68.5 years. The Postural Stability Test, as well as Sensor Integration and Balance Test on the Biodex Balance System platform were used to evaluate the equivalent reactions. Research was carried out at the Posturology Laboratory of Physiotherapy Institute of the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. Results and conclusions: Mann-Whitney U-test showed a statistically significant relation in the Postural Stability Test in dynamic mode between M/L stability index and the side of carried out mastectomy (p=0.027). Women after right-sided mastectomy mostly had lower parameters in dynamic posture, especially in the frontal plane (M/L). Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed a significant relation between the Postural Stability Test in dynamic mode and the Sensor Integration and Balance Test on a soft open-eye surface (p=0.001). The standing position of examined was characterized by higher leavings in the sagittal plane than in the frontal plane (A/P>M//L). Key words: stability index, mastectomy, Biodex Balance System. Badania wykonano w Laboratorium Posturologii Instytutu Fizjoterapii Uniwersytetu Jana Kochanowskiego w Kielcach. Wyniki i wnioski: Test U Mann-Whitney’a wykazał istotny statystycznie związek w Teście Stabilności Posturalnej w trybie dynamicznym pomiędzy wskaźnikiem stabilności M/L a stroną wykonanej mastektomii (p=0,027). Kobiety po prawostronnej mastektomii posiadały w większości niższe parametry w posturografii dynamicznej, szczególnie w płaszczyźnie czołowej (M/L). Współczynnik korelacji Pearsona wykazał istotną zależność pomiędzy Testem Stabilności Posturalnej w trybie dynamicznym a Testem Integracji Sensorycznej i Równowagi na miękkiej powierzchni przy oczach otwartych (p=0,001). Postawę stojącą badanych charakteryzowały większe wychwiania w płaszczyźnie strzałkowej niż czołowej (A/P>M//L). Słowa kluczowe: wskaźnik stabilności, mastektomia, platforma Biodex Balance System

Summary Introduction: The electrical bioimpedance method allows a non-invasive and precise assessment of the content of fat tissue, muscle mass or the amount of fluid in the body depending on the state of health or lifestyle. Changes in anthropometric features may affect postural stability, general physical fitness of women after mastectomy. In addition, changes in the distribution and amount of fat and lean body components may affect the ability to maintain balance. Aim of the study: Analysis of the relationship between postural stability and body composition of women after mastectomy based on posturographic examination. Material and methods: The study involved 40 women after mastectomy aged from 52 to 87 years. Postural Stability Test in static and dynamic mode on the Biodex Balance System platform was used to assess postural stability. The body bioimpedance method (BIA) was used to analyze the body composition. The research tool was the body composition analyzer Tanita MC 780 MA. The research was carried out in the Posturology Laboratory of the Institute of Physiotherapy at the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. Results and conclusions: Based on the research, a significant correlation was observed with a negative correlation in the Postural Stability Test, in static mode between fat mass and postural stability indexes. Also significant statistical results with a positive correlation were demonstrated in the same test between the total body water content and the postural stability indexes. Postural Stability Test in dynamic mode showed significant influence of lean and muscle mass in maintaining a stable posture. The standing posture of women after mastectomy was characterized by larger sublimations in the sagittal plane than the frontal plane (A / P> M // L)

The aim of the study was to analyze the amplitude of SEMG rectifier spine in children with scoliotic changes. SEMG amplitude rectifier back of the camera has been studied Noraxon TeleMyo DTS. The shape of the spine was estimated optoelectronic method Diers formetric III 4D. The research was Carried out in the Posturology Laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UJK in Kielce (Poland). In the group of children with scoliosis curvature of the most frequently occurred on the location of the rib. In girls, it represented (62%) in boys (56%). Univariate analysis of variance showed significant differences among boys in intra-amplitude measurements SEMG variable lower limbs up the left side of the lumbar. Means, that the value of the amplitude distribution SEMG rectifier ridge in the study of lower limbs up the left side of the lumbar differed significantly between the groups scoliotic attitudes, scoliosis and normal. The amplitude of SEMG rectifier ridge in the study of lower limbs up the lumbar left was the lowest in the group of scoliosis. Due to the fact that a group of boys with scoliosis had most of the left-hand direction of curvature in the lumbar region, we can conclude that the greater the amplitude of SEMG rectifier occurred at the back of the concave side of the curvature of the lumbar spine

The aim of the study was to analyse the body composition among women after radical mastectomy. The body compositions of 30 women after radical mastectomy (study group) were compared with those of 30 healthy females (control group). The method of electrical bioimpedance was used to analyse body composition. The significant differences between the groups, unfavourable for women, following mastectomy concerned body mass (p = 0.021), BMI (p = 0.049), fat mass (%) (p = 0.007), fat mass (kg) (p = 0.005), total body water (%) (p = 0.002), left upper limb fat mass (p = 0.013) as well as right upper limb fat mass (p = 0.022). The body composition of women after radical mastectomy was significantly worse compared to the control group. The majority of subjects were overweight and had high levels of body fat. Abnormal body composition is a modifiable risk factor of breast cancer; therefore, improving lifestyle is important in the prevention and treatment of this disease. There is a need for education, dietary supervision and physical activity in women following radical mastectomy. The innovation of our study was the use of the modern bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) method, which does not cause ionisation and is a gold standard in the field of body composition analysis. In future research, we plan to broaden the assessment of lifestyle and the significance of diet and physical activity in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer

Regulation of V-ATPase by Jasmonic Acid: Possible Role of Persulfidation

    No full text
Vacuolar H+-translocating ATPase (V-ATPase) is a proton pump crucial for plant growth and survival. For this reason, its activity is tightly regulated, and various factors, such as signaling molecules and phytohormones, may be involved in this process. The aim of this study was to explain the role of jasmonic acid (JA) in the signaling pathways responsible for the regulation of V-ATPase in cucumber roots and its relationship with other regulators of this pump, i.e., H2S and H2O2. We analyzed several aspects of the JA action on the enzyme, including transcriptional regulation, modulation of protein levels, and persulfidation of selected V-ATPase subunits as an oxidative posttranslational modification induced by H2S. Our results indicated that JA functions as a repressor of V-ATPase, and its action is related to a decrease in the protein amount of the A and B subunits, the induction of oxidative stress, and the downregulation of the E subunit persulfidation. We suggest that both H2S and H2O2 may be downstream components of JA-dependent negative proton pump regulation. The comparison of signaling pathways induced by two negative regulators of the pump, JA and cadmium, revealed that multiple pathways are involved in the V-ATPase downregulation in cucumber roots

UJK Jacek Wilczyński, licencjat Magdalena Kabała, mgr Michał Paprocki, mgr Paweł Rychter, licencjat Igor Wilczyński   Summary Parkinson's disease is an incurable disease of the CNS of progressive and chronic course. Postural Stability of people with Parkinson's is hindered what predisposes to falls. In a person standing seemingly motionless body performs small oscillatory movements caused by differences in antigravity muscle tension. This mechanism is called postural rocking and mobility associated with it is referred to as postural sway. The parameters of rocking are very sensitive indicator of balance control, and can be used to evaluate and detect pathological changes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the stability of posture of people with Parkinson's disease on the basis of posturographic examination. The age range of the patients was from 52 to 85 years (mean 71.8 years). In terms of age the patients were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 9 people to 75 years old, while the other of 8 people over 75 years old. The postural stability was assessed with Biodex Balance System. The study was performed at the Laboratory of Posturology at the Institute of Physiotherapy at UJK in Kielce. Although Mann-Whitney U test showed no significant differences in postural stability between the sexes, its lower values are reported for men. A standing position of the subjects was characterized by greater deviation in the sagittal plane than in the frontal plane (A/P>M/L) with a tendency to tilt backwards. There were better postural stability results in the younger group (group 1), up to 75 years old. The subjects in this group obtained significantly lower values of postural stability (t°=2.2744, p<0.05).   Keywords: postural stability, Parkinson's disease, Biodex Balance System Streszczenie Zaburzenia stabilności posturalnej są istotnym objawem choroby Parkinsona jako chronicznej niesprawności neurologicznej. Do oceny stabilności posturalnej zastosowano platformę Biodex Balance System. Badania wykonano w Laboratorium Posturologii w Instytucie Fizjoterapii na UJK w Kielcach. Choć test U Mann-Whitney nie wykazał istotnych różnic w stabilności posturalnej pomiędzy płciami to niższe jej wartości wystąpiły u mężczyzn. Postawę stojącą badanych charakteryzowały większe wychwiania w płaszczyźnie strzałkowej niż czołowej (A/P>M/L) z tendencją do odchylania się do tyłu. Zaobserwowano lepsze wyniki stabilności posturalnej w grupie osób młodszych (grupa 1) do 75 roku życia. Badani tej grupy uzyskali istotnie niższe wartości stabilności posturalnej (t°= 2,2744, p<0,05).   Słowa kluczowe: stabilność posturalna, choroba Parkinsona, platforma Biodex Balance Syste
