Christian Higher Education and Participation in the Redemptive Work of God
This history of distinctively Christian institutions of higher education in America signals the importance of missional vigilance for stakeholders. This article proposes a framework for Christian faculty to approach their work of educating students in a distinctively Christian way, by orienting each discipline and field of study to the main points of redemptive history as defined by Christian theology. When we train students at a Christian institution, we should be training them to become participants in the redemptive work of God. By taking an intentional approach to this (i.e., orienting our disciplines and the subject-matter to redemptive history), we help our students to realize the opportunity that presents itself with the acquisition of learning and credentials. We aren’t just training them to be job-ready graduates, research-ready graduates, informed citizens, or ministry-ready graduates. We aren’t just training them for thriving lives of obedience to God. Nor are we just training them to go into the workplace and share the gospel. In addition to these, we are training them to be participants in the redemptive work of God who use their knowledge and skills to mitigate the reign of death and dysfunction in creation, and who instantiate aspects of new creation now – catalysts of redemptive change in all spheres of society. This is a distinctively Christian approach to higher education in all academic disciplines, all of which is possible because of what God has done for us, and will do through us, in Christ and for His glory

Wald Sequential Probability Ratio Test for Space Object Conjunction Assessment
This paper shows how satellite owner/operators may use sequential estimates of collision probability, along with a prior assessment of the base risk of collision, in a compound hypothesis ratio test to inform decisions concerning collision risk mitigation maneuvers. The compound hypothesis test reduces to a simple probability ratio test, which appears to be a novel result. The test satisfies tolerances related to targeted false alarm and missed detection rates. This result is independent of the method one uses to compute the probability density that one integrates to compute collision probability. A well-established test case from the literature shows that this test yields acceptable results within the constraints of a typical operational conjunction assessment decision timeline. Another example illustrates the use of the test in a practical conjunction assessment scenario based on operations of the International Space Station
Dynamics and stability of Bose-Einstein solitons in tilted optical lattices
Bloch oscillations of Bose-Einstein condensates realize sensitive matter-wave
interferometers. We investigate the dynamics and stability of bright-soliton
wave packets in one-dimensional tilted optical lattices with a modulated
mean-field interaction . By means of a time-reversal argument, we prove
the stability of Bloch oscillations of breathing solitons that would be
quasistatically unstable. Floquet theory shows that these breathing solitons
can be more stable against certain experimental perturbations than rigid
solitons or even non-interacting wave packets.Comment: final, published versio
Asynchronous transfer mode link performance over ground networks
The results of an experiment to determine the feasibility of using asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology to support advanced spacecraft missions that require high-rate ground communications and, in particular, full-motion video are reported. Potential nodes in such a ground network include Deep Space Network (DSN) antenna stations, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and a set of national and international end users. The experiment simulated a lunar microrover, lunar lander, the DSN ground communications system, and distributed science users. The users were equipped with video-capable workstations. A key feature was an optical fiber link between two high-performance workstations equipped with ATM interfaces. Video was also transmitted through JPL's institutional network to a user 8 km from the experiment. Variations in video depending on the networks and computers were observed, the results are reported
