A glycophospholipid (GPL) antigen isolated from Plasmodium falciparum culture supernatant hasbeen tested for its antigenicity. Detection of malaria positive known blood samples and unknown fieldsamples from endemic and non-endemic areas were compared. In this study laser light scattering immunoassay(LIA) was used for the detection of P. falciparum malaria. Test results of control (malaria negativesamples from Surat) were compared with known positive samples and unknown malaria positivefield samples. A positive correlation has been observed (97%) in falciparum positive samples from laboratoryand unknown samples from endemic area (Haldwani) by LIA method using GPL antigen. Fromthe results of the study it was found that GPL antigen has a better antigenic property and can detectalmost all the cases of Pf malaria by LIA method

Structural and optical properties of plasma polymerized pyromucic aldehyde thin films

Get PDF
Abstract: Plasma polymerized pyromucic aldehyde (PPPA) thin films have been deposited on to glass substrates by glow discharge technique. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) graphs reveal that the surface morphology of PPPA thin films is uniform and flawless. FTIR analysis reveals that the chemical composition of PPPA films is different from that of the pyromucic aldehyde (PA). From the UV-vis spectra direct and indirect transition energy gaps were determined for as deposited PPPA thin films of different thicknesses

Using Tau Polarization for Charged Higgs Boson and SUSY Searches at LHC

Get PDF
The Ï„\tau polarization can be easily measured at LHC in the 1-prong hadronic Ï„\tau decay channel by measuring what fraction of the Ï„\tau-jet momentum is carried by the charged track. A simple cut requiring this fraction to be >0.8 retains most of the polarization of Ï„=\tau=+1 Ï„\tau-jet signal while suppressing the polarization of Ï„=\tau=-1 Ï„\tau-jet background and practically eliminating the fake Ï„\tau background. This can be utilized to extract the charged Higgs signal. It can be also utilized to extract the SUSY signal in the stau NLSP region, and in particular the stau co-annihilaton region.Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures; Fig.8 and Fig.9 are replaced, published in "Physics at the Large Hadron Collider", A Platinum Jubilee Special Issue of the Indian National Science Academy, Springer (2009) p 20

Coherent states for exactly solvable potentials

A general algebraic procedure for constructing coherent states of a wide class of exactly solvable potentials e.g., Morse and P{\"o}schl-Teller, is given. The method, {\it a priori}, is potential independent and connects with earlier developed ones, including the oscillator based approaches for coherent states and their generalizations. This approach can be straightforwardly extended to construct more general coherent states for the quantum mechanical potential problems, like the nonlinear coherent states for the oscillators. The time evolution properties of some of these coherent states, show revival and fractional revival, as manifested in the autocorrelation functions, as well as, in the quantum carpet structures.Comment: 11 pages, 4 eps figures, uses graphicx packag

Photon interferometry and size of the hot zone in relativistic heavy ion collisions

The parameters obtained from the theoretical analysis of the single photon spectra observed by the WA98 collaboration at SPS energies have been used to evaluate the two photon correlation functions. The single photon spectra and the two photon correlations at RHIC energies have also been evaluated, taking into account the effects of the possible spectral change of hadrons in a thermal bath. We find that the ratio Rside/Rout∼1R_{side}/R_{out} \sim 1 for SPS and Rside/Rout<1R_{side}/R_{out} <1 for RHIC energy.Comment: text changed, figures adde

Good Corporate governance in this study is proxied by institutional ownership, position of the board of directors, composition of commissioners independent, and the position of the audit committee. The sample is banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2016-2019 as many as 41 banking companies. Data analysis used multiple linear regression. The results showed that the position of the board of directors and the position of the audit committee had an effect on the company, while institutional ownership and the composition of independent commissioners had no effect on the performance of banking companies

Geometric Analysis of the Gore Excluder Conformable Endoprosthesis in the Infrarenal Aortic Neck: One Year Results of the EXCeL Registry

Get PDF
Objective: The Gore Excluder Conformable Endoprosthesis (CEXC) is designed to treat challenging infrarenal anatomy because of its active angulation control, repositionability, and enhanced conformability. This study evaluated 30 day and one year position and apposition of the CEXC in the infrarenal neck. Methods: Patients treated with the CEXC between 2018 and 2022 with an available 30 day computed tomography angiogram (CTA) were selected from four hospitals in a prospective registry. Endograft apposition (shortest apposition length [SAL]) and position (shortest fabric distance [SFD]) were assessed on the 30 day and one year CTAs. Maximum infrarenal aortic curvature was compared between the pre- and post-operative CTAs to evaluate conformability of the CEXC. Results: There were 87 patients with a 30 day CTA, and for 56 of these patients the one year CTA was available. Median (interquartile range [IQR]) pre-operative neck length was 22 mm (IQR 15, 32) and infrarenal angulation was 52° (IQR 31, 72). Median SAL was 21.2 mm (IQR 14.0, 29.3) at 30 days for all included patients. The SAL in 13 patients (15%) was < 10 mm at 30 days, and one patient had a SAL of 0 mm and a type Ia endoleak. There was no significant difference in SAL between patients within and outside instructions for use. The SAL significantly increased by 1.1 mm (IQR −2.3, 4.7; p =.042) at one year. The SAL decreased in seven patients (13%), increased in 13 patients (23%), and remained stable in 36 patients (64%). Median SFD was 2.0 mm (IQR 0.5, 3.6) at 30 days, which slightly increased by 0.3 mm (IQR −0.5, 1.8; p =.019) at one year. One patient showed migration (SFD increase ≥ 5 mm). Median endograft tilt was 15.8° (IQR 9.7, 21.4). Pre-operative maximum infrarenal curvature was 36 m −1 (IQR 26, 56) and did not significantly change thereafter. Conclusion: In most patients, the CEXC was implanted close to the renal arteries, and sufficient (≥ 10 mm) post-operative apposition was achieved at 30 days, which slightly increased at one year. Post-operative endograft tilt was relatively low, and aortic geometry remained unchanged after implantation of the CEXC, probably due to its high conformability.</p

Microbial and operational response of an anaerobic fixed bed digester to oleic acid overloads

The effect of oleic acid overloads on biomass accumulation and activity in an anaerobic filter was investigated. An anaerobic fixed-bed reactor specially designed to allow the regular withdrawal of accumulated biomass was used for that purpose. Organic and hydraulic shocks were performed during four days, by stepwise increasing the substrate concentration from 4000 to 20 000 mg COD/l or by reducing the hydraulic retention time from 16 to 3.2 h. During the organic shock, operational performance was more affected than in the hydraulic one, which was the result of the higher degree of inhibition detected in the acetoclastic, hydrogenophilic and syntrophic activities. The ratio adhered/total biomass remained between 17 and 32% during the hydraulic shock, and between 13 and 60% during the organic shock, suggesting a more stable biofilm during the hydraulic shock. A long time (900 h) after the hydraulic shock, hydrogenophilic and syntrophic activities recovered to higher values than before the shock, but after the organic shock only acetoclastic activity recovered pre-shock values. Hydraulic shock induced an increase in tolerance to oleic acid toxicity, evidenced by an increase in the toxicity limit (IC50) from 140+/-30 to 215+/-25 mg/l.Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia
