    The Politeness Strategy and Its Scale of Ahok’s Statements as a Governor of Jakarta

    The research discloses to the politeness scales and strategies of Ahok’s statements as a Governor of Jakarta. To identify both, the data will be analyzed and presented qualitatively by using five (5) strategies by Brown and Levinson, and five (5) measuring scales rating of politeness theorized by Leech. The data that have been presented show that the strategies used by the speaker are mostly negative politeness strategies. The speaker emphasizes the advantages on the Speaker image only without paying attention to the Interlocutors. In the context of existing multi-lingual it shows that the form of the statements is mostly classified into declarative and assertive dominating the statements. On a scale of decency, it demonstrates that the authority scale often becomes the one mostly performed in the statements centering on less positive face. While the people’s opinions on the strategy used by speaker are various. Several of them ignore the strategy and concern to the work result; and many others really concern to strategy used and it is a crucial thing to adapt to the social-cultural context. The negative politeness strategy is mostly used because the speaker emphasizes the advantages on the speaker image only without paying attention to the communicant. Therefore, the impact is polarity in both societies and something which breaks in the cultural politeness strategy commonly used among the persons who are in the duty for the nation.     This study aims to begin an examination into how the censor regulation effect to movie subtitle which were being showed in Indonesia. To reach that, it using qualitative method in particular translations strategy has been existed. It found that various data hardly to deal with the regulation mostly classified into slang expression that effect to the vulgarity and offensive. It happened because the translator hard to find out the equivalence effect by facing the constrain of the time, space, and also scene. The strategies were used to deal with the regulation done by soften strategy the TL by doing paraphrase, modulation, and emphasize related to pragmatic context. The regulation has been ruling in order protect the audiences have been giving them the comfortless to enjoy the movie without worry about reflecting a state of moral or cultural decline to Indonesian people who have multicultural and ethnic. So, the bad word that relating to offensive language must not be found in the outsider movies with Indonesia subtitle.---Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memulai pemeriksaan terhadap bagaimana efek regulasi sensor terhadap subtitle film yang sedang ditampilkan di Indonesia. Untuk mencapai itu, menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam strategi penerjemahan tertentu telah ada. Ditemukan bahwa berbagai data sulit untuk berurusan dengan peraturan yang sebagian besar diklasifikasikan ke dalam bahasa gaul yang berpengaruh pada vulgar dan ofensif. Itu terjadi karena penerjemah sulit untuk mengetahui efek kesetaraan dengan menghadapi batasan waktu, ruang, dan juga pemandangan. Strategi tersebut digunakan untuk menangani regulasi yang dilakukan dengan melunakkan strategi TL dengan melakukan parafrasa, modulasi, dan menekankan terkait dengan konteks pragmatis. Peraturan tersebut telah berkuasa untuk melindungi penonton yang telah memberi mereka kenyamanan untuk menikmati film tanpa khawatir mencerminkan keadaan penolakan moral atau budaya terhadap orang Indonesia yang memiliki multikultural dan etnis.     Translation Strategies of Food-Related Culture Specific Items in Indonesian Subtitle of Netflix Series The Final Table

    This study aims to find out strategies used in the translation of food-related culture-specific items in Netflix cooking show, The Final Table of UK and USA episodes, and factors that influence the choice of strategies used in translating these items. The study uses discourse analysis as a research design relying on corpuses or food terminologies in Indonesian subtitle and their original as its primary data. All data were marked bold, rewritten, sorted, and classified in accordance with the identified themes of the culture-specific items. The collected data were qualitatively analyzed using Pedersen’s translation strategy, particularly for culture-specific items. The study found out that there were 51 food-related culture-specific items in the source language (SL) with their translations, and there were five translation strategies employed by the translator in rendering these items, namely retention, specification, direct translation, generalization, and substitution. Retention was the most frequently used strategy as it resembled 35 times in the data. The most common factor identified was the non-existence of the source language foodstuff terms in the target language as it existed 21 times out of 51 data. This study recommends the translators of this Netflix to consider the culture when translating from the SL to the target language (TL)

    Muhammadiyah's Tajdīd and Sufism between Purification and Modernization

    This article aims to reveal the purification or modernization performed by Muhammadiyah in Sufism, especially concerning the practical mysticism in sufi order and philosophical mysticism on the concepts of ittihād, hulūl, and wahdat al wujūd. The research data is gathered from the official document Muhammadiyah records, such as fatwas of Muhammadiyah's Majlis Tarjih and Tajdid, Hamka's thoughts and AR Fakhruddin’s performance as former leaders of Muhammadiyah. This study uses content analysis to determine the position of Muhammadiyah's views on the early Sufi. The result showed that tajdīd performed by Muhammadiyah is called purification and it harmonious with modern life. It differs with the meaning and practices of early Sufism.  Muhammadiyah's position towards tarīqa is positive as long as the understanding and practice of Islam are derived from the guidance of the Qur'an and valid Sunnah. As for the concepts of ittihād, hulūl and wahdat al-wujūd, Muhammadiyah rejects them because there is an element of equating God with humans or pantheism, which has no basis in the Qur'an and Sunnah. This rejection is in line with what has been done by early Sufism scholars such as al-Sarrāj, al-Juwairī, al-Syahrastānī, and al-Kalabāżī

    The Translation Procedures In The Label Of Indonesian Cosmetic Products

    This research focuses on the translation from Bahasa Indonesia into English in the Label of Indonesian Cosmetic. This study aims to find out find out the translation procedures that are employed in the data and knowing the differences of each brand based on the translation procedures used. For these purposes, the writercollects all the label cosmetics product, then identifies which the label contains two languages. The data obtained are then analyzed qualitatively using the translation procedure by Newmark. The results show that there are 6 (six) types of translation procedures found on Indonesian cosmetic labels. Namely shifts or transposition, naturalization, modulation, literal translation, expansion and reduction. Shifts or transposition is often found in translation procedures,it is 36% as appears eleven times. The translation procedure chosen under each of these labels is perhaps considered the most appropriate. And also, the results regarding the differencess of each brand shows that each brand is different type of dominant procedure used.viii, 55 hlm.: ilus
