Protection of stainless-steels against corrosion in sulphidizing environments by Ce oxide coatings: X-ray absorption and thermogravimetric studies
In this paper a study is reported concerning ceramic coatings containing cerium oxide, prepared by the sol-gel method, used to protect Incoloy 800H against sulphidation. When the coating is sintered in air at 850°C good protection is obtained. In an X-ray absorption spectroscopic study of the coatings it was observed that the best protective coating contains all cerium as CeIV after pretreatment. After sulphidizing cerium was reduced to CeIII. Possible mechanisms to explain the protective properties are discussed
Controlling and Assisting Activities in Social Virtual Worlds
Since its beginning, web technology has advanced from a text-based to a visual-based
interaction. This evolution has been facilitated by both high speed internet connections and
PC's graphical power. Virtual world (VW) technology began as standalone applications
(e.g.. virtual simulations) but soon evolved into web-based applications. Nowadays, home
users for entertainment and wide-spread enterprises or institutions for business can exploit
virtual worlds to develop remote activities between friends, employees, clients, teachers or
students (Sherman, 2002). Then, virtual worlds have clear applications in e-governance, elearning
and e-commerce, and therefore it is mandatory to study mechanisms ensuring the
assistance and the control of activities taking place in these applications..
Determination of the relative concentrations of rare earth ions by x-ray absorption spectroscopy: Application to terbium mixed oxides
A method, based on X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in the range 0.8â1.5 keV, to determine the relative amounts of rare earth ions in different valencies is explained and tested for the case of terbium mixed oxides. The results are in agreement with those obtained by existing analytical methods. The XAS method is advantageous in that it can be applied where other, conventional, methods break down
A note on drastic product logic
The drastic product is known to be the smallest -norm, since whenever . This -norm is not left-continuous, and hence it
does not admit a residuum. So, there are no drastic product -norm based
many-valued logics, in the sense of [EG01]. However, if we renounce standard
completeness, we can study the logic whose semantics is provided by those MTL
chains whose monoidal operation is the drastic product. This logic is called
in [NOG06]. In this note we justify the study of this
logic, which we rechristen DP (for drastic product), by means of some
interesting properties relating DP and its algebraic semantics to a weakened
law of excluded middle, to the projection operator and to
discriminator varieties. We shall show that the category of finite DP-algebras
is dually equivalent to a category whose objects are multisets of finite
chains. This duality allows us to classify all axiomatic extensions of DP, and
to compute the free finitely generated DP-algebras.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure
