    March CRF: an Efficient Test for Complex Read Faults in SRAM Memories

    In this paper we study Complex Read Faults in SRAMs, a combination of various malfunctions that affect the read operation in nanoscale memories. All the memory elements involved in the read operation are studied, underlining the causes of the realistic faults concerning this operation. The requirements to cover these fault models are given. We show that the different causes of read failure are independent and may coexist in nanoscale SRAMs, summing their effects and provoking Complex Read Faults, CRFs. We show that the test methodology to cover this new read faults consists in test patterns that match the requirements to cover all the different simple read fault models. We propose a low complexity (?2N) test, March CRF, that covers effectively all the realistic Complex Read Fault

    Minimizing Test Power in SRAM through Reduction of Pre-charge Activity

    In this paper we analyze the test power of SRAM memories and demonstrate that the full functional pre-charge activity is not necessary during test mode because of the predictable addressing sequence. We exploit this observation in order to minimize power dissipation during test by eliminating the unnecessary power consumption associated with the pre-charge activity. This is achieved through a modified pre-charge control circuitry, exploiting the first degree of freedom of March tests, which allows choosing a specific addressing sequence. The efficiency of the proposed solution is validated through extensive Spice simulations

    Enabling MSI-Guided Laser Capture Microdissection

    Introduction/Rationale: Coupling MALDI mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) with Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) allows for precise dissection of tissue regions based on molecular features [1]. Automated methods for alignment of the coordinate systems of the MSI and LCM platforms reduces errors associated with manual definition of ROI’s and increases throughput (a major bottleneck for LCM). Here we present the development of a method to transfer regions of interest from MALDI MSI images to an LCM platform, using consecutive tissue sections mounted on ITO conductive slides for MALDI MSI and on PEN-coated slides for LCM. Methods: The test system consists of a gelatin-embedded mouse liver. 12 µm slices were cut using a cryostat and two consecutive slices were mounted on ITO and PEN slides. The ITO slide was spray-coated with DHB (30mg/mL, MeOH 70%, water 30%, 0.2% TFA) and a MALDI image was acquired with an EP-MALDI source coupled to a Q-Exactive mass spectrometer. The MSI data was imported into MATLAB. The tissue mounted on the PEN slide was stained with hematoxylin and a high resolution optical image acquired using an Aperio Scanscope. The LCM instrument used was an Apotome 2 Axio Observer Z1 microscope equipped with a Palm Robomover LCM system (both Zeiss). Results: An image of an ion with a regular distribution on the tissue is used to align the MS image to the optical image of the hematoxylin-stained tissue section mounted on the PEN slide. The optical image of the PEN slide tissue section is imported in MATLAB and cropped to match the size of the MALDI image. An intensity-based co-registration algorithm is then used to align the MS image to the cropped optical image. The MS image is then rescaled to match to the original optical image. To obtain regions-of-interest to transfer to the LCM platform, the MSI data was TIC normalized and a k-means cluster analysis performed. The image of the cluster of interest was aligned to the PEN slide using the same transformations used for the whole MSI data, binarized and segmented to obtain the coordinates of the vertices of the cluster region. Vertex coordinates were expressed after setting the axes origin to a user-defined reference point on the slide. The coordinates of the origin in the Aperio reference system were then matched to the coordinates of the reference point in the Zeiss coordinate system and the same transformation applied. Coordinates were then formatted as an Element file readable by the LCM and exported as text files. Border coordinates were imported in the Zeiss PALMRobo software and regions of interest automatically dissected. Conclusions/Novelty: The presented method enables rapid transfer of coordinates from a MALDI image to an LCM instrument, increasing throughput and reducing errors due to freehand cutting. The method is applicable to consecutive tissue sections, and ROI’s can be defined either by MSI or via histopathological specification

    Development and Validation of a State-Based Measure of Emotion Dysregulation: The State Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (S-DERS)

    Existing measures of emotion dysregulation typically assess dispositional tendencies and are therefore not well suited for study designs that require repeated assessments over brief intervals. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a state-based multidimensional measure of emotion dysregulation. Psychometric properties of the State Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (S-DERS) were examined in a large representative community sample of young adult women drawn from four sites (N = 484). Exploratory factor analysis suggested a four-factor solution, with results supporting the internal consistency, construct validity, and predictive validity of the total scale and the four subscales: Nonacceptance (i.e., nonacceptance of current emotions), Modulate (i.e., difficulties modulating emotional and behavioral responses in the moment), Awareness (i.e., limited awareness of current emotions), and Clarity (i.e., limited clarity about current emotions). S-DERS scores were significantly associated with trait-based measures of emotion dysregulation, affect intensity/reactivity, experiential avoidance, and mindfulness, as well as measures of substance use problems. Moreover, significant associations were found between the S-DERS and state-based laboratory measures of emotional reactivity, even when controlling for the corresponding original DERS scales. Results provide preliminary support for the reliability and validity of the S-DERS as a state-based measure of emotion regulation difficulties

    Clinical PhD Graduate Student Views of Their Scientist-Practitioner Training

    Objectives: The goal of the scientist-practitioner (S-P) training model is to produce clinical psycholo-gists equipped to integrate and utilize both science and practice in the clinical and research domains. However, much has been written regarding the possible shortcomings of S-P training and whether clinical psychology graduate students are actually gaining the knowledge and skills to integrate sci-ence and practice during graduate training and beyond (Chang, Lee, & Hargreaves, 2008; Gelso, 2006; Merlo, Collins, & Bernstein, 2008; Phillips, 1993). Methods: As such, the present study assessed ratings of satisfaction, perception of ability, and use of the S-P training model within 653 clinical psychology graduate students enrolled in programs that are members of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology. Results: Findings suggest that students are consistently trained in the integration of science and practice and have confidence in their abilities to apply the S-P integra-tion to research and clinical work. However, despite understanding the ways in which science can influence practice, over one third of students reported that they rarely use science-based decisions when informing clients of the clinical services they will be providing. Conclusions: The implications of these results support the need for a more detailed evaluation of clinical psychology graduate stu-dents as well as the use of research-informed practice and the process of providing clients with in-formation they need to make informed choices about treatment

    Utility of magnetic resonance imaging in the follow-up of children affected by acute osteomyelitis

    Acute osteomyelitis is characterized, especially in children, by high morbidity due to extension of the infectious process or its chronicization. No guidelines exist for the post-discharge follow-up of children affected by acute osteomyelitis, especially regarding the utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). To investigate if MRI is useful in the follow-up of AO pediatric patients. We reviewed medical records and MRI studies of children admitted to our Pediatric Department for acute osteomyelitis from 2008 to 2015. All children who had a follow-up MRI performed at least 10 days after diagnosis were included in the study. We analyzed if MRI follow-up prompted a change in patients\u2019 treatment. A total of 28 MRI studies were performed in 27 children (13 males and 14 females). Infection involved the appendicular skeleton in 64.3% of patients. Five (18%) of these studies prompted a change in patients\u2019 treatment. The only statistically significant indication for change in the therapeutic approach was MRI performed for persistence or worsening of the disease (p=0.0058). Change in bone signal at MRI, and time interval (more or less than 28 days) between MRI at diagnosis and at follow-up were not significantly associated with change in the patients\u2019 treatment (p=0.40; p=0.40, respectively). Routine MRI follow-up is not useful in children affected by acute osteomyelitis who adequately respond to antibiotic treatment. It can be useful, in adjunct to clinical evaluation, in non-responders patients. Clinical monitoring remains the mainstay in the follow-up of these patients

    The comprehensive clinic, laboratory, and instrumental evaluation of children with COVID-19: a 6-months prospective study

    Objectives: To perform a comprehensive clinic, laboratory, and instrumental evaluation of children affected by coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Methods: Children with a positive result of nasopharyngeal swab for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) underwent laboratory tests, anal and conjunctival swab, electrocardiography, lung, abdomen, and cardiac ultrasound. Twenty-four-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring was performed if abnormal basal blood pressure. Patients were followed-up for 6 months. Results: Three hundred and sixteen children were evaluated; 15 were finally included. Confirmed family member SARS-CoV-2 infection was present in all. Twenty-seven percent were asymptomatic. Anal and conjunctival swabs tests resulted negative in all. Patients with lower body mass index (BMI) presented significantly higher viral loads. Main laboratory abnormalities were: lactate dehydrogenase increasing (73%), low vitamin D levels (87%), hematuria (33%), proteinuria (26%), renal hyperfiltration (33%), and hypofiltration (13%). Two of the patients with hyperfiltration exhibited high blood pressure levels at diagnosis, and persistence of prehypertension at 6-month follow-up. No abnormalities were seen at ultrasound, excepting for one patient who exhibited B-lines at lung sonography. Immunoglobulin G seroconversion was observed in all at 1-month. Conclusions: Our study confirm that intra-family transmission is important. The significant higher viral loads recorded among patients with lower BMI, together with low vitamin D levels, support the impact of nutritional status on immune system. Renal involvement is frequent even among children with mild COVID-19, therefore prompt evaluation and identification of patients with reduced renal function reserve would allow a better stratification and management of patients. Seroconversion occurs also in asymptomatic children, with no differences in antibodies titer according to age, sex and clinical manifestations

    Interessamento entesitico in bambini e adolescenti con malattia infiammatoria cronica intestinale: uno studio ecografico

    Background: joint involvement is the most common extraintestinal manifestation in paediatric IBD patients. Several studies in adult population have shown that enthesis ultrasound (US) has a high sensitivity in the diagnosis of enthesitis. Objectives: The objective is to evaluate, using a high frequency ultrasound probe, the prevalence of subclinical entheseal involvement in paediatric IBD patients. Methods: 27 paediatric IBD patients [12 Crohn's disease, 13 ulcerative colitis and 2 IBD type unclassified; 15 females and 12 males, mean age of 13,7 years (ranging 7,2-21,0 years)] without clinical signs or symptoms of musculo-skeletal involvement were consecutively investigated with US (ESAOTE MyLAB 70 6-18 MHz linear array transducer) and compared with 24 healthy controls matched for age and sex. Twelve enthesis were scored according to the Madrid Sonographic Enthesis Index (MASEI) in both groups. Results: no patients reached the MASEI score value suggestive for an early spondyloarthritis involvement but the average MASEI score was significantly higher in IBD patients compared to controls (3.15\ub12.84 vs 0.96\ub11.12, p=0.0006).There was also a significantly higher percentage of patients with at least one enthesis with power Doppler (PD) score 652 (37% vs 16%; p= 0.037) and at least one enthesis with dishomogeneous echostructure (59% vs 0%; p= 0.000). No differences were found in terms of erosions, calcifications and structural thickness. In IBD patients, no correlation was found between MASEI total score and sex, age, disease duration and clinical activity scores. Conclusions: US detectable enthesopathy is frequent even in paediatric IBD patients
