Outlook for alternative energy sources

Predictions are made concerning the development of alternative energy sources in the light of the present national energy situation. Particular emphasis is given to the impact of alternative fuels development on aviation fuels. The future outlook for aircraft fuels is that for the near term, there possibly will be no major fuel changes, but minor specification changes may be possible if supplies decrease. In the midterm, a broad cut fuel may be used if current development efforts are successful. As synfuel production levels increase beyond the 1990's there may be some mixtures of petroleum-based and synfuel products with the possibility of some shale distillate and indirect coal liquefaction products near the year 2000

Being Used as a Mouthpiece: Mutual Recognition during Parental Feedback

The experience of being a therapist can be both gratifying and frustrating at the same time. This article takes the form of a psychoanalytical formulation of the process of therapy and parental feedback sessions conducted with an adolescent diagnosed with bulimia nervosa. It also incorporates the therapist's experience of being in the room with both the patient and the patient’s parents. Through exploring the concept of ‘mutual recognition’ and being present in the moment, it seems that therapeutic change is able to occur in both the patient and the family. Furthermore, this article explores the difficult process of negotiating feedback sessions with the patient’s parents. The expression of the experiences of both the therapist and patient are brought to life by psychoanalytical theory and phenomenological experience. A phenomenological exploration of experiences allows for the transcendence of conventional investigative research settings as “interpretive phenomenological research cannot be separated from the textual practice of writing” (Fortune, 2009). This article could constitute a protocol as it captures unique data from a setting that is often not easily accessed, and provides data and insights from the perspective of the therapist, which are often not expressed

Cushioned patient, turmoiled therapist: awareness and use of countertransference and enactment as part of the therapeutic process

Abstract: The therapeutic relationship can be difficult to navigate particularly when communication is projected through the unsaid or unconscious processes in the room. The therapist is tasked with being able to detect the unsaid through implicit or explicit countertransference. How the therapist deciphers the communication and works with the experienced countertransference impacts on the therapy. The therapy can either flourish or terminate prematurely. In presenting a case study of such an experience, I explore countertransference, enactment and the therapeutic relationship with a patient who struggled to engage with her own needs. Dynamic response of a flexible space beam

Dynamic response of a candidate flexible beam for a space experiment on control of flexible structures is investigated. Studies of natural frequencies reveal a beam length in which torsion and bending frequencies virtually coincide. Eccentric tip mass causes small shifts in natural frequencies but introduces coupled torsional/bending mode shapes. Transient response studies indicate significant effects on tip responses of low damping and first bending mode excitation at higher frequencies. Steady state response suggest displacement and acceleration measurements could be made up to 5 to 12 Hz for the actuator forces/torques assumed

Eliminated from fad diets, sworn off by celebrities, and frantically reformulated out of processed foods, added sugars have been deemed the new nutritional scoundrel. Recent studies from the American Heart Association, the World Health Organization, and the American Cancer Association demonstrate that the consumption of added sugar leads to increased risks of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and gout. While all foods containing added sugar are deemed unhealthy, Sugary-Sweetened Beverages ( SSBs ) are said to be especially toxic by the American health community, by virtue of these beverages\u27 being excessively high in added sugar content, low in satiety, and incomplete in compensation for total energy. Since a 20-ounce soda contains double the amount of added sugar that a person should consume for the entire day, maybe the frenzy concerning added sugar in SSBs is more than a weight lose craze

The Role of Non-Profit Organizations in Shaping Food Law and Corporate Responsibility in the United States

This article assesses whether the United States should adopt an institutional process similar to Europe’s through giving non-profit organizations a role in shaping food law and corporate responsibility. Part I provides a comparative analysis of genetically engineered product regulations in the US and the EU. Part II explains how the institutional processes of the US and the EU led to the varying regulations. Part III asserts that the United States should change its institutional process through allowing public universities and private colleges to influence food law and corporate responsibility
