The study of surface acoustic wave charge transfer device
A surface acoustic wave-charge transfer device, consisting of an n-type silicon substrate, a thermally grown silicon dioxide layer, and a sputtered film of piezoelectric zinc oxide is proposed as a means of circumventing problems associated with charge-coupled device (CCD) applications in memory, signal processing, and imaging. The proposed device creates traveling longitudinal electric fields in the silicon and replaces the multiphase clocks in CCD's. The traveling electric fields create potential wells which carry along charges stored there. These charges may be injected into the wells by light or by using a p-n junction as in conventional CCD's
Green's function for the Relativistic Coulomb System via Sum Over Perturbation Series
We evaluate the Green's function of the D-dimensional relativistic Coulomb
system via sum over perturbation series which is obtained by expanding the
exponential containing the potential term in the path integral
into a power series. The energy spectra and wave functions are extracted from
the resulting amplitude.Comment: 13 pages, ReVTeX, no figure
Determination of a set of constitutive equations for an al-li alloy at SPF conditions
© 2015 The Authors.Uniaxial tensile tests of aluminium-lithium alloy AA1420wereconducted at superplastic forming conditions. The mechanical properties of this Al-Li alloy were then modelled by a set of physicallybased constitutive equations. The constitutive equations describe the isotropic work hardening, recovery and damage by dislocation density changes and grain size evolution. Based on a recent upgraded optimisation technique, the material constants for these constitutive equations were determined
Internal Gravity Waves Modulate the Apparent Misalignment of Exoplanets around Hot Stars
We propose that the observed misalignment between extra-solar planets and
their hot host stars can be explained by angular momentum transport within the
host star. Observations have shown that this misalignment is preferentially
around hot stars, which have convective cores and extended radiative envelopes.
This situation is amenable to substantial angular momentum transport by
internal gravity waves (IGW) generated at the convective-radiative interface.
Here we present numerical simulations of this process and show that IGW can
modulate the surface rotation of the star. With these two- dimensional
simulations we show that IGW could explain the retrograde orbits observed in
systems such as HAT-P-6 and HAT-P-7, however, extension to high obliquity
objects will await future three- dimensional simulations. We note that these
results also imply that individual massive stars should show temporal
variations in their v sini measurements.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, Accepted for publication in ApJ
Numerical renormalization group study of random transverse Ising models in one and two space dimensions
The quantum critical behavior and the Griffiths-McCoy singularities of random
quantum Ising ferromagnets are studied by applying a numerical implementation
of the Ma-Dasgupta-Hu renormalization group scheme. We check the procedure for
the analytically tractable one-dimensional case and apply our code to the
quasi-one-dimensional double chain. For the latter we obtain identical critical
exponents as for the simple chain implying the same universality class. Then we
apply the method to the two-dimensional case for which we get estimates for the
exponents that are compatible with a recent study in the same spirit.Comment: 10 pages LaTeX, eps-figures and PTP-macros included. Proceedings of

Well-posedness of the Ericksen-Leslie system
In this paper, we prove the local well-posedness of the Ericksen-Leslie
system, and the global well-posednss for small initial data under the physical
constrain condition on the Leslie coefficients, which ensures that the energy
of the system is dissipated. Instead of the Ginzburg-Landau approximation, we
construct an approximate system with the dissipated energy based on a new
formulation of the system.Comment: 16 page
A quantitative assessment of empirical magnetic field models at geosynchronous orbit during magnetic storms
[1] We evaluate the performance of recent empirical magnetic field models (Tsyganenko, 1996, 2002a, 2002b; Tsyganenko and Sitnov, 2005, hereafter referred to as T96, T02 and TS05, respectively) during magnetic storm times including both pre- and post-storm intervals. The model outputs are compared with GOES observations of the magnetic field at geosynchronous orbit. In the case of a major magnetic storm, the T96 and T02 models predict anomalously strong negative Bz at geostationary orbit on the nightside due to input values exceeding the model limits, whereas a comprehensive magnetic field data survey using GOES does not support that prediction. On the basis of additional comparisons using 52 storm events, we discuss the strengths and limitations of each model. Furthermore, we quantify the performance of individual models at predicting geostationary magnetic fields as a function of local time, Dst, and storm phase. Compared to the earlier models (T96 and T02), the most recent storm-time model (TS05) has the best overall performance across the entire range of local times, storm levels, and storm phases at geostationary orbit. The field residuals between TS05 and GOES are small (≤3 nT) compared to the intrinsic short time-scale magnetic variability of the geostationary environment even during non-storm conditions (∼24 nT). Finally, we demonstrate how field model errors may affect radiation belt studies when estimating electron phase space density
The ordered K-theory of a full extension
Let A be a C*-algebra with real rank zero which has the stable weak
cancellation property. Let I be an ideal of A such that I is stable and
satisfies the corona factorization property. We prove that 0->I->A->A/I->0 is a
full extension if and only if the extension is stenotic and K-lexicographic. As
an immediate application, we extend the classification result for graph
C*-algebras obtained by Tomforde and the first named author to the general
non-unital case. In combination with recent results by Katsura, Tomforde, West
and the first author, our result may also be used to give a purely
K-theoretical description of when an essential extension of two simple and
stable graph C*-algebras is again a graph C*-algebra.Comment: Version IV: No changes to the text. We only report that Theorem 4.9

-Particle Spectrum in the Reaction p+B
Using a simple phenomenological parametrization of the reaction amplitude we
calculated -particle spectrum in the reaction p+B at the resonance proton energy 675 KeV. The parametrization
includes Breit-Wigner factor with an energy dependent width for intermediate
state and the Coulomb and the centrifugal factors in -particle
emission vertexes. The shape of the spectrum consists of a well defined peak
corresponding to emission of the primary and a flat shoulder going
down to very low energy. We found that below 1.5 MeV there are 17.5% of
's and below 1 MeV there are 11% of them.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
CD4+ T-cell responses to Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen EBNA1 in Chinese populations are highly focused on novel C-terminal domain-derived epitopes
Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen EBNA1, the one viral protein uniformly expressed in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), represents a prime target for T-cell-based immunotherapy. However, little is known about the EBNA1 epitopes, particularly CD4 epitopes, presented by HLA alleles in Chinese people, the group at highest risk for NPC. We analyzed the CD4 T-cell responses to EBNA1 in 78 healthy Chinese donors and found marked focusing on a small number of epitopes in the EBNA1 C-terminal region, including a DP5- restricted epitope that was recognized by almost half of the donors tested and elicited responses able to recognize EBNA1-expressing, DP5-positive target cells
