Creativity assessment is the cornerstone of effective creativity development in higher education It is one of the main topics in creativity research as it is one of the most difficult skill to measure in any of the 21 st century skills We argue that in additions to the big five creativity in higher education is related to the environment and that more research is needed to understand this relations Therefore this study aimed to investigate this relations specifically creativity domain with personality traits and the academic environment Measures for these constructs were administered to 103 Malaysian undergraduate students In order to examine the nature of the relations between creative personality and other constructs we used Structural Equation Modeling The results indicate that the model is valid and reliable for assessing the creative person of higher education students This study showed that both personality traits and academic environment are important to assess the creative personalit

Purpose – This paper discussed the development of a framework based on SOLO model (Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome) to characterise students’ linear equation solving ability in arithmetic sequence domain. Method – This study is categorised as a case study. Data of this study was collected using clinical interview technique. Subjects of this study consisted of nine Form Four students. Two out of eight interview tasks constructed as instrument of this research involved the arithmetic sequence domain. Findings – Six levels of linear equation solving ability in solving arithmetic sequence tasks, namely prestructural level, unistructural level, multistructural level, lower relational level, upper relational level, and extended abstract level were identified. The validity related to the assessment and refinement of descriptors in the framework had shown the high consistency and correspondence between the framework and the subjects’ responses. Value – This study extends the mathematics education literature(especially in assessment field) about the effectiveness of SOLO model in developing an assessment framework to assess student’s solving ability in linear equation

Drug abuse continues to be the major risk behaviour among youth and adolescents, with physical and mental health complications. Despite the known risks associated with the drugs, adolescents continue using these drugs. This paper reveals the prevalence of drug abuse among adolescent’s in Nigeria, problems associated with drugs abuse and reasons why adolescents are vulnerable to drugs abuse. Drug abuse causes a lot of risk among the adolescents; it results to gang formation, armed robbery, mental illness and cultism. Studies revealed that most of the drug addicts started smoking from their young age. As they grow older they seek new thrills and gradually go into hard drugs. There was an indication that 65 percent of high school students used drugs to have good time, 54 percent wanted to experiment to see what it is like, 20–40 percent used it to alter their moods. It concludes by prescribing some ways of curbing the menace arising from drug abuse. Keywords: Adolescents, drug abuse, problem, preventio

Development and validation of year five geometrical measurement skills instrument

Geometrical measurement is one of the most difficult fields in primary school mathematics and regularly found to be an area of weaknesses. The factors affecting the low understanding is due to the lack of valid and reliable assessment instruments. Thus, this study aimed to develop and validate a Geometrical Measurement Skill Instrument (GMSI) to assess Year Five National school pupils’ geometrical measurement skills in geometrical measurement. GMSI was developed by applying the Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO) Taxonomy and was constructed in the super item format which consisted of 24 items altogether. This study applied a survey approach to assess 132 Year Five pupils’ geometrical measurement skills. The content validity was examined using the content validity index (CVI) analysis. For the construct validity, data were obtained and analyzed using the Rasch analysis. From the CVI analysis, the results showed that GMSI could be used for the pilot study. Results for the construct validity indicated that GMSI fulfilled the psychometric properties and is valid and reliable. Hence, the results could help teachers and pupils to diagnose the strength and weaknesses of geometrical measurement and help them to plan systematic remedy to improve teaching and learning

Problem Solving Strategies among Primary School Teachers

The purpose of this article was to examine problem solving strategies among primary school teachers. The researchers employed survey research design to examine their problem solving strategies. The participants of this study consisted of 120 primary school teachers from a public university in Peninsula Malaysia who enrolled in a 4-year Graduating Teachers Program (Program Pensiswazahan Guru) majored in mathematics. Purposive sampling technique was used to select these participants. This article presents the analysis of the responses of the participants related to a particular problem, namely fencing problem. Result of the study suggests that 79.2% of the participants have successfully solved the fencing problem. They employed various problem solving strategies: (i) trial-and-error (also known as guess-and-check), (ii) using algebra, (iii) making tables, charts or systematic list, (iv) drawing diagrams, (v) identifying pattern, and (vi) logical reasoning. Result of the study also suggests that 85% of the participants used same strategy to check their solutions for the fencing problem without being probed. The implications of the results were also discussed. Keywords: problem solving strategies, primary school teachers, survey research design

Preservice teachers’ assessment knowledge: Do teaching experiences make a difference?

This study aimed to statistically compare preservice teachers’ assessment knowledge in crafting assessment task and selecting assessment method in relation to their teaching experience. This study involved 397 preservice teachers’ who were final year undergraduate students in a local university. The instrument of data collection consisted of eight superitems test. Data collected was analysed by using statistical method (SPSS version 22.0). The result showed that preservice teachers for all categories of teaching experience performed better in the selecting assessment method than crafting assessment task. However, there was no significant differences existed between the three categories of teaching experience of preservice teachers for both standards of assessment knowledge assessed

Abstract: Drug abuse prevention in schools is a main concern in most countries and other prevention programs have the potential of preventing or delaying students' drug usage. Some preventive programs are effective while others are not effective. The objective of this study is to find out the effects of Enlightenment campaign program (Drug abuse prevention program) on perceived Behavioural Control between the groups of students towards the usage of Codeine. A stratified random sampling procedure was used in selecting the sample. 900 respondents were selected from 9 randomly selected private secondary schools in the three senatorial zones in Katsina state, Nigeria. The respondents were grouped in to 5 different groups, group 1 are the respondents that attend the program every week, group 2 are the respondents that attend the program once in two weeks, group 3 are the respondents that attend the program once in a month, group 4 are the respondents that attend the program once in a term and group 5 are the respondents that never attend the program. The results revealed that there were statistical significant differences at p < .05 between the five groups compared, with regard to the effects of Drug abuse prevention program. Study results demonstrated the effectiveness of a substance abuse prevention program integrating the Theory of Planned Behaviour
