    Customization design method for complex product systems based on a meta-model

    In order to effectively reuse the design knowledge of product family life cycle development and support holistic and rapid individual product design, this article presents a new meta-model-based systemic customization design method for complex product systems within a product-pedigree. The proposed method aims to synthetically analyze the common and adaptive customer demands and product features of a product-pedigree of complex product systems and to quickly respond to the changing demands based on knowledge accumulation in the field of customization design. The key to implement such a method is (1) to construct a product-pedigree-oriented product meta-model with a four-layered architecture where it is possible to achieve a high degree of abstraction of product and (2) to develop a special technique for configuring the meta-model of the complex product systems. We have tested the proposed method with the rapid design of product-pedigree of a high-speed train’s bogies as an illustrative example. In this work, a rapid customization design prototype system has been developed and applied to the design of a high-speed train’s bogie to illustrate how to construct a product meta-model and how to conduct configuration design on different layers and variant design for generating new products

    The Tibetan Plateau is one of the most important ecosystems in the world (Yang et al. 2009), particularly because of the global importance of its climate (Tian et al. 2008; Wang et al. 2008). Grassland ecosystems on the plateau are sensitive to global change, because the plateau is located in marginal land areas where the growth and distribution of plants depend heavily on local climatic conditions (Zhang et al. 1996). The alpine grassland of Qinghai Province in China has been traditionally used for extensive grazing by sheep and yak (Bos grunniens), but is now degraded from overgrazing.     “Adjust Zang and arouse spirit” electroacupuncture ameliorates cognitive impairment by reducing endoplasmic reticulum stress in db/db mice

    IntroductionDiabetic cognitive impairment (DCI) is a chronic complication of the central nervous system (CNS) caused by diabetes that affects learning and memory capacities over time. Recently, acupuncture has been shown to improve cognitive impairment in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. However, the effects of electroacupuncture on DCI and its underlying mechanism have not yet been elucidated in detail. MethodsIn this study, we used db/db mice as DCI animal models which showed low cognitive, learning and memory functions. Electroacupuncture significantly ameliorated DCI, which is reflected by better spatial learning and memory function using behavioral tests. The db/db mice with cognitive impairment were randomly divided into a model group (Mod) and an electroacupuncture treatment group (Acup), while db/m mice were used as a normal control group (Con). First, the mice were subjected to behavioural tests using the Morris water maze (MWM), and body weight, blood glucose, insulin, triglycerides (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) were observed; HE, Nissl, and TUNEL staining were used to observe the morphological changes and neuronal apoptosis in the mice hippocampus; Finally, Western blot and rt-PCR were applied to detect the essential proteins and mRNA of ERS and insulin signalling pathway, as well as the expression levels of Tau and Aβ.ResultsElectroacupuncture significantly ameliorated DCI, which is reflected by better spatial learning and memory function using behavioral tests. Moreover, electroacupuncture attenuated diabetes-induced morphological structure change, neuronal apoptosis in the hippocampus of db/db mice. Our results revealed that electroacupuncture could regulate the expression levels of Tau and Aβ by improving hippocampal ERS levels in db/db mice, inhibiting JNK activation, attenuating IRS1 serine phosphorylation, and restoring normal transduction of the insulin signaling pathway.DiscussionIn summary, ERS and insulin signaling pathway paly causal roles in DCI development. Electroacupuncture can significantly alleviate the pathogenesis of DCI, improve mice's learning and memory ability, and improve cognitive dysfunction. This study adds to our understanding of the effect of acupuncture on DCI and opens the door to further research on DCI

    A new conceptual design method to support rapid and effective mapping from product design specification to concept design

    Conceptual design has a decisive impact on the product development time, cost and success. This paper presents a new conceptual design method for achieving rapid and effective mapping from product design specification (PDS) to concept design. This method can guide the creation of reasonable mapping among the PDS, behaviour parameters and structure parameters and to evaluate the rationality of performance parameters and structure parameters to confirm a reasonable conceptual design scheme. In this method, we establish a PDS-behaviour-structure conceptual design model to support the conceptual design of multi-disciplinary-oriented complex product system (CoPS) and develop a vector-based mapping tool in this method to support the rapid mapping, and demonstrate its feasibility and effectiveness by a case study. This method is not only supportive to realise the automation of a conceptual design process but also helpful to evaluate the conceptual design in the field of engineering design
