Alternative derivation of the relativistic contribution to perihelic precession
An alternative derivation of the first-order relativistic contribution to
perihelic precession is presented. Orbital motion in the Schwarzschild geometry
is considered in the Keplerian limit, and the orbit equation is derived for
approximately elliptical motion. The method of solution makes use of coordinate
transformations and the correspondence principle, rather than the standard
perturbative approach. The form of the resulting orbit equation is similar to
that derived from Newtonian mechanics and includes first-order corrections to
Kepler's orbits due to general relativity. The associated relativistic
contribution to perihelic precession agrees with established first-order
results. The reduced radius for the circular orbit is in agreement to
first-order with that calculated from the Schwarzschild effective potential.

Flow probe of symmetry energy in relativistic heavy-ion reactions
Flow observables in heavy-ion reactions at incident energies up to about 1
GeV per nucleon have been shown to be very useful for investigating the
reaction dynamics and for determining the parameters of reaction models based
on transport theory. In particular, the elliptic flow in collisions of
neutron-rich heavy-ion systems emerges as an observable sensitive to the
strength of the symmetry energy at supra-saturation densities. The comparison
of ratios or differences of neutron and proton flows or neutron and hydrogen
flows with predictions of transport models favors an approximately linear
density dependence, consistent with ab-initio nuclear-matter theories.
Extensive parameter searches have shown that the model dependence is comparable
to the uncertainties of existing experimental data. Comprehensive new flow data
of high accuracy, partly also through providing stronger constraints on model
parameters, can thus be expected to improve our knowledge of the equation of

From Display to Labelled Proofs for Tense Logics
We introduce an effective translation from proofs in the display calculus to proofs in the labelled calculus in the context of tense logics. We identify the labelled calculus proofs in the image of this translation as those built from labelled sequents whose underlying directed graph possesses certain properties. For the basic normal tense logic Kt, the image is shown to be the set of all proofs in the labelled calculus G3Kt
Shape oscillations of a charged diamagnetically-levitated droplet
We investigate the effect of electrical charge on the normal mode frequencies
of electrically-charged diamagnetically levitated water droplets with radii
4.5-7.5 mm using diamagnetic levitation. This technique allows us to levitate
almost spherical droplets and therefore to directly compare the measured
vibrational frequencies of the first seven modes of the charged droplet with
theoretical values calculated by Lord Rayleigh, for which we find good
agreement
Performance of a cryogenic system prototype for the XENON1T Detector
We have developed an efficient cryogenic system with heat exchange and
associated gas purification system, as a prototype for the XENON1T experiment.
The XENON1T detector will use about 3 ton of liquid xenon (LXe) at a
temperature of 175K as target and detection medium for a dark matter search. In
this paper we report results on the cryogenic system performance focusing on
the dynamics of the gas circulation-purification through a heated getter, at
flow rates above 50 Standard Liter per Minute (SLPM). A maximum flow of 114
SLPM has been achieved, and using two heat exchangers in parallel, a heat
exchange efficiency better than 96% has been measured
Fusion barrier distributions in systems with finite excitation energy
Eigen-channel approach to heavy-ion fusion reactions is exact only when the
excitation energy of the intrinsic motion is zero. In order to take into
account effects of finite excitation energy, we introduce an energy dependence
to weight factors in the eigen-channel approximation. Using two channel
problem, we show that the weight factors are slowly changing functions of
incident energy. This suggests that the concept of the fusion barrier
distribution still holds to a good approximation even when the excitation
energy of the intrinsic motion is finite. A transition to the adiabatic
tunneling, where the coupling leads to a static potential renormalization, is

Statistical Mechanics of Membrane Protein Conformation: A Homopolymer Model
The conformation and the phase diagram of a membrane protein are investigated
via grand canonical ensemble approach using a homopolymer model. We discuss the
nature and pathway of -helix integration into the membrane that results
depending upon membrane permeability and polymer adsorptivity. For a membrane
with the permeability larger than a critical value, the integration becomes the
second order transition that occurs at the same temperature as that of the
adsorption transition. For a nonadsorbing membrane, the integration is of the
first order due to the aggregation of -helices.Comment: RevTeX with 5 postscript figure
A pilot study applying the plant Anchored Hybrid Enrichment method to New World sages (Salvia subgenus Calosphace; Lamiaceae)
We conducted a pilot study using Anchored Hybrid Enrichment to resolve relationships among a mostly Neotropical sage lineage that may have undergone a recent evolutionary radiation. Conventional markers (ITS, trnL-trnF and trnH-psbA) have not been able to resolve the relationships among species nor within portions of the backbone of the lineage. We sampled 12 representative species of subgenus Calosphace and included one species of Salvia´s s.l. closest relative, Lepechinia, as outgroup. Hybrid enrichment and sequencing were successful, yielding 448 alignments of individual loci with an average length of 704. bp. The performance of the phylogenomic data in phylogenetic reconstruction was superior to that of conventional markers, increasing both support and resolution. Because the captured loci vary in the amount of net phylogenetic informativeness at different phylogenetic depths, these data are promising in phylogenetic reconstruction of this group and likely other lineages within Lamiales. However, special attention should be placed on the amount of phylogenetic noise that the data could potentially contain. A prior exploration step using phylogenetic informativeness profiles to detect loci with sites with disproportionately high substitution rates (showing "phantom" spikes) and, if required, the ensuing filtering of the problematic data is recommended. In our dataset, filtering resulted in increased support and resolution for the shallow nodes in maximum likelihood phylogenetic trees resulting from concatenated analyses of all the loci. Additionally, it is expected that an increase in sampling (loci and taxa) will aid in resolving weakly supported, short deep internal branches.Fil: Fragoso Martínez, Itzi.
