Vitamin D Pathway Gene Variants and Prostate Cancer Risk
Vitamin D has antiproliferative, antiangiogenic, and apoptotic properties. There is some evidence supporting an association between vitamin D-related gene variants and prostate cancer risk. We report results from this population-based case-control study of genes encoding for the vitamin D receptor (VDR), the vitamin D activating enzyme 1-alpha-hydroxylase (CYP27B1), and deactivating enzyme 24-hydroxylase (CYP24A1). Forty-eight tagging single nucleotide polymorphisms (tagSNP) were analyzed in 827 incident prostate cancer cases diagnosed from 2002 to 2005, and in 787 age-matched controls. Contrary to some earlier studies, we found no strong evidence of altered risk of developing prostate cancer overall or within clinical measures of tumor aggressiveness for any of the tagSNPs when they were assessed individually or in haplotypes
The Fermi Liquid as a Renormalization Group Fixed Point: the Role of Interference in the Landau Channel
We apply the finite-temperature renormalization-group (RG) to a model based
on an effective action with a short-range repulsive interaction and a rotation
invariant Fermi surface. The basic quantities of Fermi liquid theory, the
Landau function and the scattering vertex, are calculated as fixed points of
the RG flow in terms of the effective action's interaction function. The
classic derivations of Fermi liquid theory, which apply the Bethe-Salpeter
equation and amount to summing direct particle-hole ladder diagrams, neglect
the zero-angle singularity in the exchange particle-hole loop. As a
consequence, the antisymmetry of the forward scattering vertex is not
guaranteed and the amplitude sum rule must be imposed by hand on the components
of the Landau function. We show that the strong interference of the direct and
exchange processes of particle-hole scattering near zero angle invalidates the
ladder approximation in this region, resulting in temperature-dependent
narrow-angle anomalies in the Landau function and scattering vertex. In this RG
approach the Pauli principle is automatically satisfied. The consequences of
the RG corrections on Fermi liquid theory are discussed. In particular, we show

Singularities in the Fermi liquid description of a partially filled Landau level and the energy gaps of fractional quantum Hall states
We consider a two dimensional electron system in an external magnetic field
at and near an even denominator Landau level filling fraction. Using a
fermionic Chern--Simons approach we study the description of the system's low
energy excitations within an extension of Landau's Fermi liquid theory. We
calculate perturbatively the effective mass and the quasi--particle interaction
function characterizing this description. We find that at an even denominator
filling fraction the fermion's effective mass diverges logarithmically at the
Fermi level, and argue that this divergence allows for an {\it exact}
calculation of the energy gaps of the fractional quantized Hall states
asymptotically approaching these filling fractions. We find that the
quasi--particle interaction function approaches a delta function. This singular
behavior leads to a cancelation of the diverging effective mass from the long
wavelength low frequency linear response functions at even denominator filling

Hadron yields and spectra in Au+Au collisions at the AGS
Inclusive double differential multiplicities and rapidity density
distributions of hadrons are presented for 10.8 A GeV/c Au+Au collisions as
measured at the AGS by the E877 collaboration. The results indicate that large
amounts of stopping and collective transverse flow effects are present. The

Lowest-Landau-level theory of the quantum Hall effect: the Fermi-liquid-like state
A theory for a Fermi-liquid-like state in a system of charged bosons at
filling factor one is developed, working in the lowest Landau level. The
approach is based on a representation of the problem as fermions with a system
of constraints, introduced by Pasquier and Haldane (unpublished). This makes
the system a gauge theory with gauge algebra W_infty. The low-energy theory is
analyzed based on Hartree-Fock and a corresponding conserving approximation.
This is shown to be equivalent to introducing a gauge field, which at long
wavelengths gives an infinite-coupling U(1) gauge theory, without a
Chern-Simons term. The system is compressible, and the Fermi-liquid properties
are similar, but not identical, to those in the previous U(1) Chern-Simons
fermion theory. The fermions in the theory are effectively neutral but carry a
dipole moment. The density-density response, longitudinal conductivity, and the

Regional Adoption of Business-to-Business Electronic Commerce in China: Role of E-Readiness
Adoption of B2B e-commerce is a powerful driver of economic success in developed and developing countries. However, adoption rates in developing countries lag far behind. This paper draws on the Perceived eReadiness Model and research on the influence of inter-organizational relationships and economic-cultural contexts to explain the importance of three factors—inter-organizational power dependence, cooperativeness, and regional economic-cultural differences—for achieving higher levels of Internet-based Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) in the developing country of China. We employ survey data to empirically test both the individual and joint influence of these factors. The findings suggest that beyond intra-organizational and external factors, managers and policy makers wanting to promote Internet-based EDI adoption in developing countries must also account for the inter-organizational relationships of firms and the economic and cultural circumstances of the regions in which they operate
Measurement of the Branching Fraction for B->eta' K and Search for B->eta'pi+
We report measurements for two-body charmless B decays with an eta' meson in
the final state. Using 11.1X10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the Belle detector,
we find BF(B^+ ->eta'K^+)=(79^+12_-11 +-9)x10^-6 and BF(B^0 ->
eta'K^0)=(55^+19_-16 +-8)x10^-6, where the first and second errors are
statistical and systematic, respectively. No signal is observed in the mode B^+
-> eta' pi^+, and we set a 90% confidence level upper limit of BF(B^+->
eta'pi^+) eta'K^+- decays is
investigated and a limit at 90% confidence level of -0.20<Acp<0.32 is obtained.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters
Observation of Cabibbo-suppressed and W-exchange Lambda_c^+ baryon decays
We present measurements of the Cabibbo-suppressed decays Lambda_c^+ -->
Lambda0 K+ and Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma0 K+ (both first observations), Lambda_c^+
--> Sigma+ K+ pi- (seen with large statistics for the first time), Lambda_c^+
--> p K+ K- and Lambda_c^+ --> p phi (measured with improved accuracy).
Improved branching ratio measurements for the decays Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ K+
K- and Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ phi, which are attributed to W-exchange diagrams,
are shown. We also present the first evidence for Lambda_c^+ --> Xi(1690)^0 K+
and set an upper limit on the non-resonant decay Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ K+ K-.
This analysis was performed using 32.6 fb^{-1} of data collected by the Belle

Measurements of Branching Fractions and Decay Amplitudes in B-> J/\psi K^* decays
The branching fractions and the decay amplitudes of B -> J/psi K^* decays are
measured in a 29.4/fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB
electron-positron collider. The decay amplitudes of helicity states of the
J/psi K^* system are determined from the full angular distribution of the final
state particles in the transversity basis. The branching fractions are measured
to be (1.29\pm0.05\pm0.13) \times 10^{-3} for neutral mesons and
(1.28\pm0.07\pm0.14) \times 10^{-3} for charged mesons. The measured
longitudinal and transverse (perpendicular to the transversity plane)
amplitudes are |A_0|^2 = 0.62\pm0.02\pm0.03 and |A_{\perp}|^2 =
0.19\pm0.02\pm0.03, respectively. The value of |A_{\perp}|^2 shows that the CP
even component dominates in the B^0 \to J/\psi K^{*0}(K_S\pi^0) decay.Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures, 5 tables, to appear in Phys. Lett.
Measurement of the inclusive semileptonic branching fraction of B mesons and |Vcb|
We present a measurement of the electron spectrum from inclusive semileptonic
{\it B} decay, using 5.1 fb of data collected with the
Belle detector. A high-momentum lepton tag was used to separate the
semileptonic {\it B} decay electrons from secondary decay electrons. We
obtained the branching fraction, , with minimal model dependence.
From this measurement, we derive a value for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa
