Aging phenomena in spin glasses: theory, experiment, and simulation

We study numerically temperature-shift and field-shift aging protocols on the 3-dimensional (3D) Ising Edwards-Anderson (EA) spin-glass (SG) model focusing on respectively the temperature-chaos nature and the stability under a static field of the SG phase. The results of the latter strongly support the droplet theory which predicts the instability of the SG phase under the field. Field-Shift Aging Protocol on the 3D Ising Spin-Glass Model: Dynamical Crossover between the Spin-Glass and Paramagnetic States

Spin-glass (SG) states of the 3-dimensional Ising Edwards-Anderson model under a static magnetic field $h$ are examined by means of the standard Monte Carlo simulation on the field-shift aging protocol at temperature $T$. For each process with (T; \tw, h), \tw being the waiting time before the field is switched on, we extract the dynamical crossover time, \tcr(T; \tw, h). We have found a nice scaling relation between the two characteristic length scales which are properly determined from \tcr and \tw and then are normalized by the static field crossover length introduced in the SG droplet theory. This scaling behavior implies the instability of the SG phase in the equilibrium limit even under an infinitesimal $h$. This study discussed the difficulties encountered by an international student in graduate school when writing research papers in Japanese for the first time and her disposition development. The analysis of interview data revealed that the international graduate student with a performance-oriented goal showed increased anxiety and decreased self-efficacy when writing papers. The student coped with her anxiety in a way that helped her feel relieved and secure, and she changed her goal through self-reflection. Furthermore, the student responded to a decrease in self-efficacy by reflecting on her learning environment, and consequently adopting a sense of responsibility helped her to control her own efficacy. The student developed the dispositions of engagement and openness through writing papers. Thus, to elicit engagement, it is important to build confidence and self-esteem, and the key to achieving these aims is to experience each step of the research process, including mid-term and final presentations, and recognize that she has the approval of those she holds in respect. In addition, the sense of achievement on completing a paper develops a sense of openness, leading to independent study.研究論

"Glassy Dynamics" in Ising Spin Glasses -- Experiment and Simulation

The field-cooled magnetization (FCM) processes of Ising spin glasses under relatively small fields are investigated by experiment on Fe_{0.55}Mn_{0.45}TiO_3 and by numerical simulation on the three-dimensional Edwards-Anderson model. Both results are explained in a unified manner by means of the droplet picture. In particular, the cusp-like behavior of the FCM is interpreted as evidence, not for an equilibrium phase transition under a finite magnetic field, but for a dynamical (`blocking') transition frequently observed in glassy systems.Comment: 4 pages, 7 figure

大阪大学短期交換留学プログラムの必修科目では、課題を発見し他者と協働しながら解決方法を見つけ発信する力を育成することを目指し、留学生の母国および留学先の地域についての課題解決型学習（PBL）を行っている。2022年度秋～冬学期は、各学生が自分の国・地域・町についてのPBLの成果をクラスで発表し、2023年度春～夏学期は、留学先である箕面市の課題解決方法をグループで考え箕面市の人々に向けて成果を発信する活動を実施した。各クラス活動実施後のアンケート調査結果と学期開始時および終了時のルーブリック評価などから、2学期間の実践を通してプロジェクトが質的に変化し、クラスメートの捉え方にも変化が見られ、最終的に協働力、発信力、客観的分析力といったジェネリックスキルの発達があったことがわかった

Efforts to Continue Japanese Language and Cultural Education in Times of Emergency : A Focus on Initiatives in Short-Term International Student Education during the COVID-19 Crisis

研究論文This paper discusses the practical implementation and significance of Japanese language and cultural education for short-term international students at Osaka University’s Center for Japanese Language and Culture (CJLC), from the enactment of the Special Measures Law for the Response to the Novel Coronavirus on March 13, 2020, until May 2023 when COVID-19 transitioned to a Category 5 infectious disease. In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the CJLC implemented various practices in Japanese language and cultural education, including 1) streamlining placement tests and establishing an online course registration system for smoothly operating classes immediately after students’arrival in Japan; 2) conducting pre-departure orientation for advance studyabroad training; 3) establishing a framework for handling teaching materials with a focus on long-term perspectives through copyright arrangements for materials issued by CJLC; 4) building a framework for conducting research activities, presentations, and experiential training even during the pandemic; 5) acquiring expertise in planning and managing intensive courses and short-term study-abroad programs as emergency relief measures for credit unitization; and 6) enhancing understanding and support for international students within the university through relationship-building with other departments. The realization of these initiatives during the pandemic contributed to the qualitative improvement of education under normal circumstances, such as through efficient and effective pre-departure education, diversified options for research activities and experiential training, and reinforcement of support systems for the physical and mental well-being of international students. It also indicated that CJLC had gained the ability to build a new educational framework tailored to the post-COVID era, as well as to plan and operate special courses to make up for lost educational opportunities during emergencies

大阪大学日本語日本文化教育センターの短期交換留学生プログラムであるメイプル・プログラムでは、「ほかの文化の人たちや社会とつながることができる」人材の育成を目的とし、地域の市民団体、近隣の企業、大阪大学内の他部局との連携のもと、居住地域の課題を発見して、その解決に向けて何をするべきかを考える未来志向のPBLを取り入れた授業を行っている。本稿は2020年度春～夏学期のPBLの実践における成果と課題の報告である。留学生、および発表会に参加したゲストへの事後アンケート調査の結果、留学生たちが主体性や積極性をもってPBL活動に取り組んだこと、市民団体の方々や他部局の教員と日本語で関わる機会を設けられたこと、留学生が地域社会に深い関心を持ったこと等が大きな成果であるとわかった。一方、当事者意識をもって課題の解決方法を探すという点で課題が残り、今後、「探究から学ぶ」「他者から学ぶ」「過去から学ぶ」といった学ぶ姿勢の構築という面での改善が求められる

大阪大学短期交換留学プログラムの一つであるメイプル・プログラムでは、コロナ禍で渡日できていない留学生が地域住民から地域に密着した情報を得ることにより、留学先である箕面市についてのイメージを喚起することを目的として、産学民連携型のセミナー「Let me know! Minoh! セミナー」を開催した。このセミナーは、のちのPBL（Project-based Learning）活動へとつなげるものである。本セミナーは「主体」「場」「方法」という３つの新しさを兼備したものであった。セミナー開催後に参加学生を対象に行ったアンケートの結果、箕面市の情報の獲得、箕面市への興味の高まりおよびイメージ喚起、箕面市民との関係性構築への期待の高まりなどの成果が顕著であった。また実際に、後日行ったPBL発表会における発表タイトルでは、箕面市に関する幅広いテーマに取り組んでいるグループが複数見られた。以上のようなことから、本セミナーを行ったことにより、学生に箕面市の一員であるという自覚が芽生え、PBL発表会に取り組めたことが明らかになった
