It is well-known that compost and manure applications to all kinds of soils if these organic materials are mature and composted under favorable conditions result in improved soil fertility and crop production in terms of yield and quality, but because manure is expensive in our region and the application of in-farm production compost for organic lands and farms of Turkey is limited, there is a great and urgent need for demonstrate compost using advantages to soil fertility, plant yield-quality and food safety (Kir 2006). Vegetables account for only approximately 2% of total organic production in Turkey, but there is great potential for growth of organic production for both export and domestic consumption of organic products in our country. Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is one of the most important species for testing effects of compost applications because of its sensitivity related with phyto-toxic effects of compost (Fuchs et al. 2008) and very important to find out productivity and sustainable production levels in crop production. It is obtained from the results at the end of the first two-year trials, respectively of the three year-planned research under organic management (framework of regulations of EU and Turkey) that (1) the artificial organic materials sourced from farms can be composted and applied to lettuce production to get a great profit in terms of environment and economic aspects of organic lettuce production significantly, (2) promising improvement of industry of compost production can be expected, (3) Organic lettuce can be consumed as microbiologically safe, (4) high quality lettuce production can be attained by using compost

The research was carried out under Kirsehir ecological conditions in 2016 and 2017 vegetation period. The experimental layout was randomized blocks with three replications. In this study, 10 hybrids and one composite maize cultivars were evaluated for some yield and quality characteristics. Important yield and quality characteristics green herbage yield (tons ha4), dry matter yield (tons ha4), crude protein yield (tons ha4), ADF (%), NDF (%), ADL (%) digestible dry matter ratio (%) and digestible dry matter yield (tons ha4) were determined. Significant differences were found between cultivars in terms of yield and quality. The two-year mean values of dry matter yield, crude protein yield and digestible dry matter yield indicated that Kerbanis, Karadeniz Yildizi and Samada-07 were the high yielding cultivars. The ADF, NDF and ADL ratios which are the quality indicators, of high yielding cultivars were also low. The results revealed that the high-yielding cultivars are also prominent in terms of important quality criteria. Kerbanis, Karadeniz Yildizi and Samada-07 cultivars are suitable for silage maize production considering the yield and quality characteristics and can be recommended for Kirsehir and similar ecologies. © 2020 Parlar Scientific Publications. The Refined Humbert Invariant for an Automorphism Group of a Genus 2 Curve

The purpose of this paper is to list the refined Humbert invariants for a given automorphism group of a curve C/KC/K of genus 2 over an algebraically closed field KK with characteristic 00. This invariant is an algebraic generalization of the (usual) \textit{Humbert invariant}. It is a positive definite quadratic form associated to the curve CC, and it encodes many geometric properties of the curve. The paper has a special interest in the cases where Aut(C)≃D4Aut(C)\simeq D_4 or D6D_6. In these cases, several applications of the main results are discussed, including the curves with elliptic subcovers of a given degree

Regulation of shoot development in maize via brassinosteroid signaling

Brassinosteroids (BR) are a class of phytohormones with many important roles in plant growth and development. Compared to other model organisms BR signaling is poorly understood in maize. To study BR signaling\u27s role in maize growth and development we suppressed two members of the BR signaling pathway, BRI1 and BIN2, by RNAi approach. BLAST searches and phylogenetic analyses suggested that there are two BRI1 copies and three BRI1-like genes (BRL) homologs in maize. bri1b, which is located on chr 5, was incomplete in databases, but via subsequent cloning and sequencing was found to be an intact and expressed gene. These two closely related bri1 homologs, named bri1a and bri1b, share 93% amino acid identity and 95% similarity. Suppression of BRI1 homologs lead to dwarf plants with upright, dark green, and thicker leaves. Blade/sheath boundary was disrupted in bri1-RNAi lines as well. Increased and localized accumulation of BES1: YFP, a BR responsive marker, in the developing ligule/auricle region suggests that BR signaling is central to auricle development. For BIN2, a GSK3-like kinase, phylogenetic analyses suggested that there are 10 homologs in maize. NJ method divided BIN2 homologs into four clades with 5 members belonging to Clade II , whose members perform primary BR signaling functions in Arabidopsis. All these members had SIWID domain, which is unique to Clade II. bin2-RNAi plants had shorter stature, which was unexpected because BIN2 is a negative regulator of BR signaling. However tassel internodes and leaves were longer as expected for increased BR signaling. In contrast to bri1-RNAi plants, bin2-RNAi plants had larger auricles. bin2-RNAi plants also had changed kernel traits, too. When bin2-RNAi lines used as female, kernels on the cob independent of their genotype were larger, opaque, and had pointy ends. SEM analysis revealed that these opaque kernels were lacking a normal horny endosperm and their starch granules were larger, less compact, and non-spherical compared to non-opaque kernels granules. The bin2-RNAi transgene rescued the mild bri1-RNAi phenotype consistent with the predicted position of BIN2 downstream of BRI1 in the signaling pathway. A kinematic analysis on leaf #4 of both bri1-RNAi and bin2-RNAi showed that leaf elongation rate (LER) was increased 14% in bin2-RNAi lines, whereas decreased 17% in bri1-RNAi lines. Both cell division and cell elongation contributed to the effects on leaf length in each line. These results suggest that BR signaling has similar as well as unique roles in maize development compared to other species

EXPLORING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BELIEFS AND PRACTICES OF INSTRUCTORS ABOUT ORAL CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK IN EFL CLASSES: A CASE STUDY FROM TURKEY

Although many studies were conducted on stated beliefs and observed practices of oral corrective feedback (OCF) in language classes, relatively little is known about the actual relationship between them. Therefore, this study focused on the relationship between the teachers’ stated beliefs and observed practices of oral corrective feedback (OCF) to explore how beliefs and practices interact. The participants of the study were four Turkish EFL instructors coming from English Language Teaching (ELT) and Translation and Interpreting Studies. The data were collected through a questionnaire, classroom observations, and interviews. The results showed that the participants' stated beliefs and observed practices held some inconsistencies. These inconsistencies were explained by different factors stated by the participants during the stimulated recall sessions. The content knowledge of OCF and the proceduralization of this knowledge have been found to be the indicators of this inconsistency. In addition to highlighting these different factors on the study of OCF, this study presents the insights for the integration of OCF in EFL classes

Granules pavement is a construction is built on the foundation soil layer (sub grade), which serves to bear the weight of traffic. Aggregate Base is the foundation layer is the main ingredient composed of granular aggregate or stone material. Aggregates are granular materials are hard and compact and is the aggregate may include cobblestone, crushed stone, stone dust and sand. In addition to the base course, the aggregate has a very important role in the transport infrastructure, particularly in this case the pavement. Carrying capacity of the road pavement is determined largely by the characteristics of the aggregates used.Bentuas road intersection mouth of Java is a road that will connect with the road axis, toward the mouth of the districts and sub-districts of Java Samboja, so the road construction is carried out in order to facilitate access to traffic. The method used for data collection is a method of testing the field with a cone of sand and a method of sieving or distribution of grain in the laboratory. From the results of calculations can be concluded that, sieving or grading tests performed in the laboratory as many as 13 samples. Sieve analysis test should not exceed 2% out of the ring boundary gradation in order to achieve maximum density, if in excess of 2% will be increased compaction trajectory. While the field density testing as many as 40 samples from the site grade B aggregate densty testing in the field. Field density testing results meet the technical specifications (> 98.00%), with an average percentage of density is 101.61%

The Refined Humbert Invariant for Imprimitive Ternary Forms

In this paper, we discuss the refined Humbert invariant for abelian product surfaces with complex multiplication. More precisely, we give the classification of quadratic forms which are equivalent to some refined Humber invariant q(A,θ),q_{(A,\theta)}, where AA is isogenous to E×E,E\times E, where EE has complex multiplication, and q(A,θ)q_{(A,\theta)} is an imprimitive form. To give this classification, we use and derive some results in the theory of integral ternary and binary quadratic forms

Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a type of phytohormone that has important roles in plant development. Even though they are well studied in model species, their role in maize development is poorly understood. To address this issue, two approaches were undertaken. Since it was shown mutations in BRs biosynthesis or signaling cause dwarfism in other plants, novel maize dwarf mutants were screened to see if they are related to the BRs. Phenotypic and genetic characterization led to the identification and genetic mapping of at least 2 likely candidates. The results of this work are presented in Chapter 2. In the second part, a transgenic approach was pursued. Four genes related to the either BR biosynthesis or signaling were manipulated by overexpression or RNAi suppression to investigate their roles in the growth and development of maize. The preliminary results suggest that similar to other plants, BRs also regulate plant height in maize. In addition, they appear to influence reproductive development and leaf morphology. This work is shown in Chapter 3. This and future studies based on the results shown here will help provide an understanding of BR\u27s role in maize development
