Citrus black spot detection using hyperspectral image analysis
A recently discovered fungal disease called citrus black spot, is threatening the Florida citrus industry. The fungal disease, which causes cosmetic lesions on the rind of the fruit and can cause a tree to drop its fruit prematurely, could possibly lead to a ban on sales of fresh Florida citrus in other citrus-producing states. The objective of this research is to develop a multispectral imaging algorithm to detect citrus black spots based on hyperspectral image data. Hyperspectral images of citrus fruits (Valencias) were collected in the wavelength range of 480 nm to 950 nm. Five surface conditions were examined, citrus black spot, greasy spot, melanose, wind scar, and normal one. The first part of the image analysis determined the optimal wavelengths using correlation analysis based on the wavelength ratio (l1/l2) and wavelength difference (l1 - l2). Four wavelengths were identified, 493 nm, 629 nm, 713 nm, and 781 nm. In the second part, pattern recognition approaches namely linear discriminant classifier and artificial neural networks were developed using the four selected wavelengths as the input. Both pattern recognition approaches had an overall accuracy of 92%. The detection accuracy was improved to 96% by using the NDVI band ratio method of 713 nm and 781 nm. The multispectral image algorithm developed in this study haspotential to be adopted by a real-time multispectral imaging system for citrus black spot detection. Seborrheic Keratosis of the Conjunctiva: A Case Report
Seborrheic keratosis is a benign epithelial neoplasia that occurs mainly in the skin of the eyelids and face. We describe a case of seborrheic keratosis of the conjunctiva confirmed by histopathology. A 72-year-old man presented with a recurrent conjunctival mass involving the nasal side of his right eye. Clinically, a diagnosis of conjunctival papilloma was made, and a mass excision was performed. The histopathological analysis evidenced a conjunctival-covering epithelium with papillomatous changes and irregular acanthosis, at the expense of a proliferation of basaloid cells. In addition, the lesion exhibited multiple pseudohorn cysts containing keratin. With the above findings, a diagnosis of conjunctival seborrheic keratosis was established. The occurrence of seborrheic keratosis on the conjunctiva is rare. In this case, seborrheic keratosis was confirmed by pathologic report despite its similar appearance with papilloma. Seborrheic keratosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of conjunctival lesions
UML approach to the generation of test sequences for Java-based concurrent systems
Starting with a UML specification that captures the underlying functionality of some given Java-based concurrent system, we describe a systematic way to construct, from this specification, test sequences for validating an implementation of the system. The approach is to first extend the specification to create UML state machines that directly address those aspects of the system we wish to test. To be specific, the extended UML state machines can capture state information about the number of waiting threads or the number of threads blocked on a given object. Using the SAL model checker we can generate from the extended UML state machines sequences that cover all the various possibilities of events and states. These sequences can then be directly transformed into test sequences suitable for input into a testing tool such as ConAn. As an illustration, the methodology is applied to generate sequences for testing a Java implementation of the producer-consumer system. © 2005 IEE
