Central monitoring system for ambient assisted living

    Get PDF
Smart homes for aged care enable the elderly to stay in their own homes longer. By means of various types of ambient and wearable sensors information is gathered on people living in smart homes for aged care. This information is then processed to determine the activities of daily living (ADL) and provide vital information to carers. Many examples of smart homes for aged care can be found in literature, however, little or no evidence can be found with respect to interoperability of various sensors and devices along with associated functions. One key element with respect to interoperability is the central monitoring system in a smart home. This thesis analyses and presents key functions and requirements of a central monitoring system. The outcomes of this thesis may benefit developers of smart homes for aged care

PHARMACOGNOSTIC, ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL, PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL PROFILE OF WILD GUAVA I.E. CAREYA ARBOREA ROXB

    Get PDF
Careyaarborea Roxb. is a medium-sized deciduous tree of 9 to 18 m height, surviving throughout India up to an altitude of 1,500 meters and other Asian countries. The tree belongs toFamily Lecythidaceae and has folklore use in treating cold, cough, tumours, asthma, inflammations, ulcers and skin infections. The present review reveals updated, comprehensive and categorized information on pharmacognostical evaluation containing morphology as well as microscopic studies, ethnopharmacology, physiochemical parameters, preliminary photochemical screening, phytochemistry and elaborated pharmacological studies

Study and Simulation of Quasi and Rotated Quasi Space Time Block Codes in MIMO systems using Dent Channel model

    Get PDF
Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) has become one of the most exciting fields in modern engineering. It is mainly used to increase data rate and capacity of wireless communication system. In this paper, we exploit the space and time diversity to decode the quasi and rotated quasi space time block codes (QOSTBC) based on dent channel model. For Doppler shifting and Rayleigh distribution we make use of dent channel model. This provides fast decoding and gives better performance of communication system.BER analysis is presented in terms of diversity and code rate. KEYWORDS: MIMO, Quasi Orthogonal Space-Time Block codes (QOSTBC), rotated QOSTBC, Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding

(R1987) Hermite Wavelets Method for System of Linear Differential Equations

    Get PDF
In this research paper, we present an accurate technique for solving the system of linear differential equations. Such equations often arise as a result of modeling in many systems and applications of engineering and science. The proposed scheme is based on Hermite wavelets basis functions and operational matrices of integration. The demonstrated scheme is simple as it converts the problem into algebraic matrix equation. To validate the applicability and efficacy of the developed scheme, some illustrative examples are also considered. The results so obtained with the help of the present proposed numerical technique by using Hermite wavelets are observed to be more accurate and favorable in comparison with those by using Haar wavelets

INTERRELATIONSHIP OF THYROID HORMONES, OBESITY, AND PROLACTIN IN INFERTILE WOMEN

    Get PDF
Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the level of thyroid hormones, namely, triidothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), and prolactin in blood serum of infertile women with normal healthy subjects in Amritsar region of Punjab, India. A number of complications arise from the dysfunction of hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, which leads to the hormonal disturbances in female reproductive system. Certain disorders such as obesity and thyroid hormone imbalance are highly prevalent and lead to various complications in pregnancy such as polycystic ovary syndrome. These disorders lead to the infertility and ultimately constitute a major physiological stress. A multidimensional diagnostic approach is imperative in evaluating these disorders. In the present study, the association between thyroid hormones and prolactin has been reviewed in infertile women which is a prerequisite to work up for infertility in Punjab. Methods: Hemoglobin levels were estimated in the blood serum of healthy controls and infertile women by the method of Sahli. The levels of serum T3, T4, TSH, and prolactin were determined by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay using Cobas e 411 analyzer according to the instruction manual. Results: Majority of infertile women were found to have hypothyroidism and hyperprolactinemia which can be correlated with infertility. This condition might respond to the treatment for their hormonal and prolactin levels, and fertility can be restored. Conclusion: The measurement of TSH and prolactin should be done at an early stage of infertility rather than more invasive procedures involved in the treatment of infertility in women

Anesthetic nuances in a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patient for laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection

    Get PDF
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a complex cardiac disease with unique pathophysiologic characteristics and a great diversity of morphologic, functional, and clinical features. It is characterized by a massive asymmetrical hypertrophy of the myocardium. Clinical features range from an absence of symptoms to sudden death. We report a rare case of a 57-year-old male presenting with a history of constipation for 3 months, weight loss and fatigue for 3 months, and blood in stools for 1 month. He was diagnosed with a carcinoma rectum. He was planned for abdominoperineal resection by laparoscopic approach. Aim of this case report is to discuss the challenging technical nuances of anesthetic management of a patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy posted for laparoscopic surgery

Determinants of management expense ratio for Canadian mutual funds

    Get PDF
1 online resource (vi, 32 p.) : col. ill.Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references (p. 29-32).This study examines how the management expense ratio varies across bank and non-bank financial institutions. The dataset containing 10,818 Canadian mutual funds is built from the Fundata website. While determining expenses other factors that were considered are: size and age of the fund, its asset classes, the geographical allocation of its securities, risk adjusted return and mutual fund versus ETF. The main findings are that banks charge lower MERs than non-bank financial institutions, probably because of economies of scope; larger funds benefit from economies of scale and charge a lower MER; older funds charge a higher MER; funds that give higher net return have a lower MER; equity funds are more expensive and ETFs are cheaper as compared to mutual funds

Evaluation of Soil Potassium Test to Improve Fertilizer Recommendations for Corn

    Get PDF
A study was conducted at thirteen locations in North Dakota and Minnesota in 2013 and 2014 with the objectives of determining difference between the soil potassium (K) results based upon air-dried (KDry) and field-moist (KMoist) soil samples during the corn growing season and to evaluate corn response to applied K-fertilizer. Overall, KDry tests showed higher K levels in the soil test results compared to KMoist but the pattern of deviation was dependent upon various soil properties such as initial soil K level. Temporal variation of soil K levels indicated a need to consider time of soil sampling while making fertilizer recommendations. Potassium application significantly increased corn yields at only five out of 11 sites with soil K levels below critical K soil test levels (<150 ppm). Therefore, development of an improved soil testing strategy is required to improve the predictability of corn response to applied K fertilizer in this region.North Dakota Corn Counci
